How can Teachers do that!!!!! (WARNING - may be disturbing for some)

I'm a youth worker and have been working at a few schools in my area with kids with behaviour problems.
I was at a school this morning and there were a couple of kids that turned up late. The teacher was HORRIBLE to them. He was yelling at them calling them little S**Ts and telling them they didn't deserve to be there, to get off the school grounds and that they aren't welcome at the school! These kids were yelling abuse back at the teacher (which I would have done as well....) so this particular teacher just kept screaming at them telling them he was the boss and if they didn't like things tough luck. They can get out and not come back!!! These kids are only 14!!!!!! They HAVE to be engaged in education.

This school also has a breakfast/lunch program running because these kids come from homes where chances are they don't get fed. This particular teacher was like "well..sorry you weren't here so tough luck, you don't get anything". HELLO... there is obviously a reason these kids are late to school..you know the background of these kids!

Now....while i know teenage kids can be difficult to work with and have a habit to backchat etc...is there any reason to be like this?!?! It is no wonder these kids don't want to be at school. And now the gov. is making it harder for them to leave, there is going to be so many more issues like this occuring, where kids are disengaing from school.

This is not ok and I say this as a teacher. If you witnessed this you need to report it to the school principal. Swearing and verbally abusing kids is not on and not allowed by schools or education departments, no matter what the circumstances. Please let the principal know ASAP so action can be taken. This teacher needs to be pulled up and fast.

Macca - the person doing this is the "principal" in the school It's a behaviour school where the "principal" role is classed as a head teacher. I got back to the office and just started crying. I have no idea where I need to go to from there to report anythign like this because like i said...the person doing it is the "principal" of the school

Go to the Education department in your state. Ring and let them know you wish to report inappropriate behavior from a member of staff in a school and they should be able to put you through to the right people. It's even worse if he is the person in charge.

Thanks Macca. I am just disgusted with the behaviour I witnessed and am feeling for these kids that have had to put up with it or be told to get out. I'm so angry I can feel my whole body tensing!

I totally agree, this is NOT ok. My DS is 14 and if he came home and told me his teacher talked to him like this I would be up at the principals office so fast and would also be making a complaint with the Education Department.

That is soooo wrong! Definantly report it, teachers shouldn't be swearing at minors! That is not a good environment for kids to be in. It's not fair. Report it!

Even worse he is the principal. All my school principals were people you could really look up to.

The problem is there are teachers/principals who have been in the job too long I think and they forget that it's a job about being for kids, regardless of of what behaviour the kids demonstrate. Your doing the right thing about not ignoring it, at the end of the day he is the adult in this situation.

Jennjorga - I would go to your boss and ask about how you can make a formal complaint. The fact that it upset you that much indicates that not only was the behaviour unacceptable, it also affects your ability to do your job and deal with this principal in the future.

Your boss should know the procedures for who this should be escalated to.

I am guessing you wouldn't be the first person to think he's on the wrong track here.

How awful. You can report it to the department of education in your state. If this is the principal then I think that it's really important that he is reported because his attitude will filter down to the other teachers.

Completely unacceptable!! If I spoke to a student that way I would expect to lose my job. If I sopke to someone in the real world like that I would expect to get punched. I can't believe that it hasn't been reported and taken further before now. Please take this to his superiors, it really doesn't sound like he should be there anymore.

I completely agree that the behaviour of the "Principal" was absolutely disgusting, if he knows that most the kids are being treated badly at home then he should be more understanding and i feel sorry for those kids

By reporting him you will be doing those kids are great favour, they shouldnt come to school and get spoken to like that and no way should that man even be allowed near a school with foul language like that!
