How much does your book list cost?

I just ordered the booklist for next year.
It cost me $240.42 so I'm feeling a bit poor.

They send it to the school and I don't need to buy anything else throughout the year so maybe it works out cheaper than the way my Mum did it where she bought things throughout the year as they were needed.

I suspect that some of the students buy nothing and those of us that buy the lot subsidise them.

At DD's public school (in Vic), the voluntary contribution (although the school is loathe to tell you it's voluntary) is $210 next year for Grade 4. This is all-inclusive - stationery, books, etc, etc.

I forgot to mention - that is for 2 children. DS1's is about $10 more than DS2's.
I feel a bit better now N2L since I get off more lightly than you.

We don't make a contribution to the school. They send a book list home with a website and you just go online and order the list for your child and then it gets delivered to the school.

Just for the book list (without voluntary contributions) for public school is;
$110 for DS year 7
$120 for DS year 5
$60 DD kindy
my two older kids are year 11 and 12 next year and I am to scared to think about that cost

Then there is new bags, lunch bags, unforms, shoes etc.

The booklist for my boys school is about $120 per grade, with $140 compulsory school contribution (they don't hide the fact it has to be paid). So $260 per child.

$175 for Prep, then there is the $125 ICT levy and uniforms of course. This is for a public/private partnership school in Qld.

Far out! We don't have book lists at the kids schools. Everything is supplied by them except for a homework book and folder which you have to purchase yourself and in the primary section each child also needs a good quality dictionary. You only need to buy pencils and rubbers if you want them to have them. Our school 'fees' are also only $35 per child and capped at $70 per family and you even get a $5 discount on that if you pay in the first term of school!

i have heard a lot about book lists lately from friends on fb, dsd is currently grade 3 will be grade 4 next year in public school nsw and i am yet to hear of a booklist at this school, what exactly is it? Our voluntary yearly contribution is $40 a year or $10 a term. We then provide stationery ourselves. handwriting books are $9 each as needed, about 2-3 a year. Sorry im just confused and wonder if theres something were not paying for or something?

Ours have always been around $110 - 150 per child depending on the year (for primary school - high school is a whole 'nother story!)

DS2 is in year 5, QLD public school and next year's list is $151 for the lot, although I will be able to trim it a lot with things he already has.
They have a subtotal of $115 and that is not including things he should have already from this year, with them included it is $151.

That doesn't include the voluntary conribution, that is billed separately but it does include an air conditioning contribution.

Our account with the high school for next year with one in year 10 & one in year 12 is around $650.

Our book list is all the stuff they need for the school year - crayons, pencils, exercise books, handwriting books, folders, scissors, erasers etc.
It all gets sent to the school and pooled so each class gets a years supply at the start of the year - I'm pretty sure they ask for a little more than they need because some parents don't contribute and other children turn up mid-year.
I had a look at the list and it seems that I'm buying 2 whiteboard markers as well as rulers etc.
I guess it makes life easier because I don't need to worry about sending a pencil case etc to school or buying replacements through the year.

The school must have a billion pairs of scissors because I buy a new pair each year...

We don't have any voluntary contributions or school fees (unless you count the raffles and baked goods for the cake stalls and so on).

I was miffed to find out today that my DS1 who is staring pre-school next year 2 days a week (which is supposed to be 'free' for kids in ACT) has been sent a letter asking for $80 (voluntary) contribution and $70 for 'supplies' (which are communal and over-priced IMHO - and some of the supplies, like ballpoint pents and whiteboard markers are obviously for teacher use.)

I wasn't expecting this for pre-school, because DD1's was actually free, and had no costs whatsoever.

So much for free education.

Well I for one am looking forward to school as kindy nearly broke us this year.

But our Kindy was $600 per term, yes that's right per term!!!! my SIL in who lives in SA could not believe it. Plus we fundraised heaps, a sausage sizzle, disco, pie drive......all my money went to kind this year.

As for prep in a public school all we have to pay is $110 and this supplies everything to their classroom that they will need.
