Am bumping this one up to see any more suggestions..
DD had a fridge in her classroom last year for prep, but this year, I have to keep everything cool till lunch time.. I do have freezer packs, and small bottles that I can freeze water in, but I don't like that they take space in her lunch box..
You can get flat freezer packs. I found some at Bunnings, they slot nicely into the mesh pocket in the lid of some cool bags.

They look great Limeslice. A while back I updated the kids insulated bags to a 'packit' - you keep them in the freezer and they have the freezable gel inside the bag so I don't need to use ice bricks anymore. Makes it so much easier and it lasts all day.
I was looking at those.. But it would be a very snug fit with DD's current lunch box.. Suppose I could always get another one if I go with these..:
I do get tempted to toss all the containers and start again. I saw some great decor packs (insulated bag, containers and ice pack, all made to fit together) ages ago and am now kicking myself at not buying.
Some containers are going missing which is frustrating, even when named, but then some different ones have come home instead.
Must admit it is driving me batty trying to store it all. I have a large drawer (they type for saucepans) full to over full with just containers. Nude food = overflowing kitchen!

Can I ask about drink bottles too please? I like the boys ones at the moment because they are push button ones so can't leak in the bag, but they are not very big and won't last either of the for next year (prep for one, 6 hour kinder days for the other).
Or do I send them with a bottle and rely on them knowing their own thirst and using the bubblers at school or getting a ate her to refill their bottle at school? Are insulated bottles too bulky?
Do you mean the cooler type things Lenny? I use stainless steel drink bottles for the kids - I did start with H2Onya's but their bottom is separate to the sides so they would crack along the seal if they were dropped. So I went to Eco Tanka's and Kleen Kanteens and they are dinged up and still going strong. The plastic ones to tend to wear out a lot quicker and they smell after a while too which I why I went to the stainless steel. You can get the different tops for them too - I like the screw lids that you take off, but the kids have the sports lids with the pull top. Never had a problem with them leaking unless the kids didn't push the top down properly. My kids have 1lt ones and most of the time they are fine, but they have started packing a second, smaller drink bottle as well for the really hot days.

Love it. All 3 kids can use them easily and holds heaps!
I despise nude food lunchoxes. They are rubbish. They don't go in the dishwasher and break easily.
I'm thinking of going all out and spending some money on bento lunchbox kit for the big girl. DS is still a little rough so he can keep his decor compartment lunchbox.
I have too many of those stupid little containers. I want to burn them all.
Thanks Trill. I love my own Kleen Kanteen. Perhaps I'll get them one and ask them politely to remember to push the lid down. I have a sports cap myself, I think they'll find it easier too than the screw one.
I put ours through the dishy. I just remove the lids first and clip them back in after:
The main compartment in ours doesn't unclip. So it was a PITA to hand wash too. It breaks if it comes off. Friends of ours found this out the hard way. I'm thinking of going laptop bento this year.
Maybe it's only the smaller one.
I've always put DD's in the dishwasher, grant it I go through two a year but for $7 each I don't mind!
