Starting Primary School 2013 Chat

my DD2 is of to school next year, she is so ready and so am I, might feel a bit different when DS starts in a few years time.

My eldest is starting Year 1 next year, and my second will be in pre primary. They've both been at school this year - preprimary 5 days per week for DD1 and kindy 3 days for DD2 - and they are continuing at the same school but it still feels like a huge step. DD1 is so excited to be wearing a "real uniform" (ie a dress, not sports clothes that the preprimaries wear) and they are both so excited. I think I would have been a bit more sad about it had DD3 not come along, so I know I've still got one of my babies at home with me ;-)

As for the having so much more time when they go to school, after two years I still don't understand this comment. I feel like I have less time. I find school drop offs and pick ups far more disruptive to my day than just simply having the kids home all day

I'm with you luluHB - I'm commuting ds to his school 10km a day (as the school is in the suburb where we will rebuild our house and has tenants in till June) - its going to be so time consuming.... But worth it

She's super excited about the whole thing, knows 13 out of the 48 kids starting in prep and will be absolutely fine.

Wow that's awesome!!!! Moving away from here means Iz doesn't know anyone at her new school but she made 2 new little friends at transition! Hoping she fits in quickly considering its a small town and everyone knows everyone!

I am hoping the school drop offs & pick ups are easier than this year with DD kinder and creche drop offs & pick ups. I am not looking forward to the peak hour commute but I figure I will have some more time b/c they are at school longer than they are for kinder - I dunno I guess I'll see.

I purchased most of DD school uniform last week, bar the hat (had to order that). School books are available for pick up in the last week of January.

Had our final day at Kinder, was bitter sweet.
DD1 & her bestie almost had me in tears, they were both asking us if they could change schools so they could be together.
Then there was tears & hugging and when can we see each other again & then more hugging.
So we promised them they could up during the holidays & have play dates & maybe go to the movies.
Otherwise it was a great day, so much food & lots of photos & presents!

We have everything for DD1 but a school jacket/jumper, also have some extra clothes on lay by. We don't get a book list it's included in her fees so that's good but we will get her some things for home.

I'm sure she'll be fine Tan - if anything she'll get more attention because she's new!

Oh Cheshire that's so sad!! My DD2 was in a really tight knit group of 4 in kindy and while all the kids are continuing at the same school, three of the kids are together in one class and the other one has been put into a different class. They will all still be able to play together at recess and lunch, but her mum is too scared to tell her that her little friends won't be with her in class next year. Seems very harsh but I'm sure the teachers had good reasons for it.

My gorgeous girl goes to school next year. She is so excited and more than ready. I am excited for her! I don't think I will have any tears or sadness. I remember starting school and thinking it was the best thing ever! I think she will be the same too. She loved her smooth start days (the days they have at school to get used to it, meet teachers, see the classrooms etc...) We live in a small town and she has gone to pre school this year with most of the kids she will start school with. And she loves the teachers who will be teaching kindy next year too!

My little girl is off to prep next year. It's her last day of kindy tomorrow, wonder if I can hold back the tears!
I am so happy for her though, she is so ready for school and she loved her school transition days. Fingers crossed she settles in well and makes lots of lovely friends. I'm a little sad for her that her best friend is going to a different school, so far she has taken it all in her stride but that could change once reality sets in and her little bestie isn't there at the first day of school.

Dd1 is off to school next year we have had a bumpy road as we discovered she was scared about it as she has been at the same cc/kinder since she was one. With the help of some lovely bb girls including sangie she met some of the girls she is going to school with and is excited about going now. Her bestie is staying at kinder she is sad about that but she will she her besties sister every day so that will help.

We have all the uniform and books now just have shoe shopping to go in January. I am excited for her but sad to see her growing up I still remember my teenie tiny prem!

My baby will be leaving me next year As much as I am looking forward to this new stage in our lives (with our Biggest boy off to boarding school for year 7 next year too) it is still such a bittersweet moment. he is totally ready to be at school and talks about it all the time. I've gotten most of his uniform already so he could wear it during his orientation program, but will need to get the last bits and pieces in January. This will also mean that I have no more babies at home with me I've had kids at home for the past 12 years and it's going to be so different. DS2 goes to preschool two days a week, and one of those I'm at home all day because he travels on the bus and even though I love being alone, its a novelty to me and I think that will wear off soon enough.

Oh Trill that would be hard! I have three years until I am all alone although I will have few hours this year which will be nice.

We have got sneakers for dd just have to work out if her black shoes are suitable as they have little black flowers.

Black rose, I think they should be fine. Most of the time anything goes in terms of shoes so long as they have a closed in toe. I'm not game to get shoes just yet. Will probably wait till the last week before school goes back. DS2 will only wear boots anyway so that's easy. Just have to convince him to get a black pair LOL. I ordered him the cutest lunch box today from limetreekids. I don't have much longer before he is too grown up to have a lunchbox like the one I picked

will get DD2's shoes in Forbes next week, love the shoe shop there always have shoes to fit my little foot and the girls. Still to get the lunch box, I have no doubt she will ask for purple.

Got DD shoes at DFO on Friday, still need to get runners but will do that later this month. Will look at limetreekids for a lunchbox - thanks for sharing Trillian.
I have a newborn so am not home alone for another 5 years!

We got shoes last week. Now just need to name the hat and jumper and we are ready to roll!

I got some bike shorts for DD today at Kmart - they are a size 7 and are a bit tight, and some skorts that were size 6 and HUGE on her- thinking I will need to take her with me to do that stuff. She's able to wear runners and the ones she has still fit so that is easy - just need to get a hat, dress, labels and lunch box stuff now! So excited for her - oh and we need to pack our house and move to Seachange town in the next 2 weeks as well, should be right mate

We have a school dress and a few pairs of skorts for DD. I have to get the rest of her uniform online, since we live remotely and have no stores which supply any of it. I am worried about getting shoes online, but hey, what can I do?! We have a bag, lunch box and drink bottle too. She is so excited and keeps on talking about when she goes to school, and how things will be. She is just too cute!
