what does it cost...

i just posted asking about the cost of kinder, but im also interested to know roughly how much it costs all up for school.

roughly how much would you spend in one year for school? fees, uniforms, shoes, excursions, photos, any other extras(im guessing there would be a lot of birthday parties once kids start school.. so im guessing $15 or so each party for a card & pressie)

we're starting a bank account for dd (and dd2) which i want to use for school/kinder expenses.. i just want to make sure we have more than enough to cover everything each year!

Are you going public or private for school? There are huge differences there.

Well I've never actually been asked for fees yet. I think its about $20 - $30 a year? I paid $850 for DD1 last year for private, but not public.
Most public uniforms you can get the basics at Big W etc for around $5 - $20. Proper uniform dresses are around $40 - $50 from a uniform shop.
I usually don't spend more that $10 on a b'day pressie for friends. Then, yeah, card & wrapping, so about $15.
Photo's are around $35 a year. Shoes I like to buy a new pair of each every year. Black - $20 - $30, running shoes - around $50 - $60.
Swimming lessons can be around $40 - $50. Could be more or less depending where you are.
Bag, around $20- $40. I usually buy one a year.
Ummm, lunches? can be around $5 a day. If you order through the canteen.

Can't think of any others & don't know about excursions yet. P&C's at some public schools will sometimes put money towards those types of things.

Matilda goes to a tiny small independant school. Its fees are $650 per term and $200 for yearly fees. Its a tiny school (18 students K-6). No uniforms or books or materials that we have to buy. Excursions are on an individual basis, but there are only 1 excursion per term. The entire school does a gym class on Mondays which is $10/week.

dd's annual school fees are $172 this year
plus appx $50 - $60 per term for excursions, special events etc
uniforms - t'shirts $19 each, dresses $45, shorts $24, school hat $25, school jacket $40 (all required with school logo, all only available at school) school back[pack $50
shoes $100 (i could never make her walk around all day in synthetics, her feet would totally stink, she really needs leather upper/leather lined)
books, lunchbox, pencil case, glue etc $50/year
photos $30
each pressie is $15-$20.... but i buy huge rolls of wrapping paper and boxes of xards so i dont include that in the price (all up prob equivalent to 50 cents per pressie!)
