why oh why wont this cough go away.. :(

i have the same cough that i had weeks ago :(
i am seriously over it. i cough so much that in the morning and late at night i actually vomit sometimes :( i think i have pulled a muscle in my belly from coughing and i have also burst a vessel in my eye :(
Im near tears all the time coz i just want this to stop.
The doctor had me on 2 7day courses of amoxil and now he has given me a "Symbicort" inhaler. my cough is much better than it was at the begining but now when i cough its so flemy and thats what makes me sick :( i am going back to the doctors on monday...

oh i am so sorry so whinge like this **cry**

i guess i am really concerned about my baby?
should i be worried??

I dont think it would affect your baby.
amoxil is definitely safe to take too.

I have had a blocked nose this ENTIRE pregnancy and a cold that keeps coming and going for over 6 weeks now. Pregnancy seems to make it harder for us to get better.

I really think i have what you have
I havea cold for nearly 4 weeks, i have had 2 different antiiotics, and they relieved the sore throat and blocked nose, but im still left with this awful cough.
Mind you, the cough has relieved quiet a bit, but its still there. An anoying husky cough.

Have you been tested for whopping cough? There was a bout of it going around NSW in January/February and may still be making the rounds - don't mean to scare you - I am not sure how it affects pg but my friend got whooping cough in January when she was 34 weeks pg and her bubs is all good and so is she

i was acually very worried that it may be whooping cough, but ive also been panicking as to whether it might be the swine flu, as i read in my local paper that there have been cases of it in my suburb.
But i dont think its severe enough to be swine flu. I did mention the fact it might be whooping cough to my doc, but she didnt seem to think it was as the cough wasnt severe enough :/:rolleyes:

well actually one doctor i went to said that i should get tested for whooping cough.. and then the next day i went to another doctor(coz the first one is a douche) and he said it wouldnt be whooping cough. BUT i still went and did the blood test/nose swab/throat swab this morning. just to be on the safe side.
i also asked about it being sine flu and the doctor thought that was funny, and told me i have nothing to worry about ;)

mine is alot better than what it was but now when i cough my gag reflex is just gone so i instantly start to wrech :( it sucks :(

In most cases swine flu is actually of the same or less severity than the 'normal' flu that comes around every winter. Pregnant women shouldn't be MORE worried about swine flu than any other flu.

Whooping cough doesn't have to be a severe cough - it is more likely a persistent cough - often with vomiting afterward and the 'whoop' sound.

My friend who did have whooping cough in January 2009 was misdiagnosed since about November 2008 - she was told at first that it was asthma but when the asthma meds were not helping she went for another opinion and was finally tested for whooping cough and it was positive for both herself and her 2.5yr old son.

I am not saying that it is definitely whooping cugh but I would rather be tested and know rather than not IYKWIM

FWIW I think that its worth while getting tested for whopping cough. A girlfriend of mine (who is not pregnant) was mis-diagnosed despite having gone to the doctors three times with a persistant cough that would just not go away. Didn't have a "whoop" sound when she coughed but was becoming quite run down as she wasn't sleeping due to the coughing. She was diagnosed in the end when an infection had set in and she'd gone back to the doctor as she was coughing up a lot of phlemg.

Haven't read a lot about it but from what I understand - cough can last up to 14 weeks (sorry not what you want to hear) - only infectious for first three weeks - very easy to mis-diagnose in the begining and adults don't get the "whoop" as much as children (whoop is the sound the air make when passing through the restricted airways - and most importantly baby is safe Only danger to baby is if you still have whooping cough when the baby is born. While inside you i undestand that the baby is completely safe.

Hope this helps and that they can give you something to clear it up.

Yep, the whooping cough doesn't necessarily have a whooping sound or is as evil as a lot of us think... my gp did tell me that the classic symptom for whooping cough is cough/gag/vomit... so getting a test done just in case is a great idea.
In any case I don't believe it is any harm to your unborn baby... just makes you very run down and miserable!
