Ultrasound Questions

Hey all.
I'm 18 weeks and I had an routine ultrasound done with the hope of also finding gender.
Gender was impossible cause baby was sitting on his/her feet! And when I was allowed to look he/she was kicking and everything.

Frq 3.0 MHz (I take this to be the ultrasound frequency)
Gn 47
S/A 4/1
D 16.0cm ( this is the one I really want to know...That babies length?)
DR 72
FR 27Hz



Story time as to why I didn't ask the ultrasound person;
The lady who did the ultrasound...seemed grumpy to say the least. It was very get in lie down let me do my stuff, no I wont answer your questions attitude. I had 2 ultrasounds down previously and i would always ask "as far as you can tell does all look good?" and they'd always say from what the could see everything looked fine. This lady sat starring at the screen with a very unpleasent look on her face and told me "well you're not 18 weeks. You look closer to 17 weeks 5 days" I was like oh ok....you know, i was off by two days whoopie! So i just started finding her very negative I asked "as far as you can tell does all look good?" her reply was "oh i won't discuss that with you but we'll said the scans to your midwife and she can talk to you about them" Can't help but freak out a little...and be frustrated with her attitude! So I was pretty eager to leave at that point. Only thing keeping me sane is I suspect some places just wont say anything either way, still rather her have said something like that then telling me she'd live it to the midwife to discuss with me!

I have had a couple of US like that!!!! WHAT THE???? I have no idea what gives with these people sometimes, i reckon complain, you should'nt feel uncomfortable under those circumstances youare viewing your unborn baby, it should be pleasant!!! let them scan the crappy leg or whatever, to go with their mood.
I can say if there was something wrong, they will get the head honcho in to take alook, so rest assured your baby is fine and it was routine..if boring and annoying for the sonography???

Awe thanks yea I mean i figured if something was wrong more would have happend.
Still curious whats 16 cm though!! cause if that's babies length, most sites of read say the average length at 18 weeks is around 14.2 cm. I'm confused why she felt she had to correct me on a 2 days difference if the baby is even big for 18 weeks??

That would be your fundal height (uterus size) :)

i would have been so mad if they spoke to me like that..

when i had my scan they told me everything that they were looking at and how everything was and explianed everthing to me

u should go get another scan done i would ..so u can have the exp u deserve , its a great moment to have, maybe wait untill ur 19 weeks they can see a lot more

Thanks for the replies guys! hubby was making it out like i was over reacting to her manner! Good to know im not too overly emotional lol.

Ugh I hope you weren't near the Northern Hospital in Epping getting your scan cos the lady there was a bit of a ***** to me too. She asked me how many children did I have and I smiled and said 'this one makes two' and she just raised her voice and said 'No, how many children do you actually have?' I said 'One' but the whole time I was thinking..either she's really dumb and maths or is just socially retarded! She also informed me that the dvd was broken so she could promise the dvd would work if we bought one so I said 'well in that case I can't promise I will give you ten dollars for the dvd' she did giggle at that though..so yeah.

Oh is it fundal height...theres me thinking D = Diameter or head or something oops!

Hmmm well I don't want to be rude to the other person or anything but I don't think it could be fundal height. Least the woman never measured my stomach or anything like that and i was reading fundal height isn't normaly checked till 20-22 week area ? I think 16 cm is very small for a fundal height too at 18 weeks from what i've read woman who have had their fundal height checked at 18 weeks it's 20+cm's. So i'm really hoping it's not the fundal height! lol.

Thats funny about the kids question though! The very first thing the woman asked me was. "Okay, so you're 18 weeks based on what?" I told her my midwife and i had kinda worked it all out because I have very unusual cycles. her reply was No, is it based on your last menstraul cycle or what? I was like Kinda off the date of conception and by previous ultrasounds. Her reply was oh so you may not be 18 weeks. I was like **** -.- So when she made the whole 17 weeks 5 days comment I nearly threw a fit.

My mother is a sonographer, radiographer and mommographer, and I asked her for you, and she said its to do with the fundal height/size of the uterus/diameter of the uterus.

Fundal height isn't usually measured til 20 weeks, on the outside, but at your ultrasounds they usually measure it as part of the ultrasound. At your midwife/doctor appointments they will use a measuring tape and measure your fundal height from the outside of your body from about 20 weeks onwards.

These are all technical specifications for the imaging, not measurements of anything inside you. ;)
D is for depth. It is the depth of the focal range of the scan. You can adjust how deep you want your focal range to be depending on what and where you are scanning.

And just to clarify, D can be used as the symbol for diameter, but in this instance, grouped with the other technical specs it's not at all likely to be. :)
