ready or rushing?

I am keen to tt my 21 month old - she is a good talker, and is able to tell me (sometimes) that she wants to sit on the toilet, or that she has done a poo or needs her nappy changed. She has periods of dryness during the day, and seems to do big wees after holding for a while, although I find this hard to monitor. She will sit on the potty or toilet quite happily at times and do a wee, and seems quite pleased when she does this. She also likes to see us use the toilet, and talks about being an "underpants girl" like her cousins.

However, I have noticed that she still doesn't often tell us when she needs to do a wee, and will actively deny that she needs to go to the toilet when asked if she is absorbed in some other activity. The couple of times I have tried her in undies she has wet herself in spite of reminders (I felt like I was "nagging" to prompt her, but she still ended up wet).

So I'm wondering whether I should read this as a sign that she is not ready, or go with the more "positive" signs and put some more time into encouraging and helping her train. I am worried about rushing her and creating negative associations - however I'd also love to see her out of nappies and think that in many ways she is capable.

No advice on tt'ing from me as am not there yet - but just wanted to say that my 4 year old nephew will still deny needing to go the toilet even though he's holding his willy and clearly busting if he's in the middle of a movie or activity of some kind and my mum still has to nag him when he's here to go through the day so he doesn't hold on until it is too late - I think that's standard and not a sign of not being ready so much as not wanting to interrupt what doing. Sounds like you're both doing great though, well done.

I use to give DS1 a jelly bean when he had done a wee or poo in the potty from about 25 month old, seemed to work for getting him to go when I asked. However, he wasn't fully toilet trained until he was 3.
