haemorrhaging HELP, happened to anyone???

So I am pregnant with my forth baby and i suppose you could say that i am really nervous about giving birth!!!! WHY????? With the two boys everything went smoothly with no real concern's. With my last baby girl she was stressed, her heart rate was dropping they tried to get a blood test off the top of her head (while still inside me) not a pretty thought!!! They thought i had HELPP syndrome and they were going to do a c-section until i told them i needed to push and two push's and she was born screamed straight away and was fine. Me on the other hand was not. I went and had a shower and then felt like a needed to wee:o we all know that you NEVER feel like you need to wee after you have pushed a baby out!! Well i never did anyway. So i went to the loo and four fist size blood clots fell out!!!!!! I went and sat down and felt really dizzy so they laid me on the bed and went and got the nurse!!!! The Dr came in i was in SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much pain felt like contractions just constant i was tearing my clothes off yelling at them to help me it was the worse thing i have ever been through. I had my baby girl and i thought i was going to die!!!!!! I had no pain medication during labour but then they gave me pethadine arghhhhhhhhhhhh instant relief!!!!! The Dr pushed on my stomach and I could feel another 6 clots come out!!!!!
Like i said before its something i never ever ever want to go through again, and its going through my head everyday!!! Is it going to happen again??? I am really scared that it will happen again. I guess my question is has this happened to anyone else and then again with there next labour or was your next labour nothing like this???? I guess I just need some reasurrance!!

I think before you get yourself any more worried make an appointment with your DR, OB or midwife and talk this through.
This will do 2 things. It will get you some answers and will make sure there is a record on your file so they can be aware for when you have your next child.
Never be afraid to ask questions when it comes to your health and especially when it is dealing with child birth. The questions you are asking are normal after your last experience. :)

Did you have a managed or physiological third stage?

Did they give you any reasons why this may have happened?

Every birth is different. You were fine for your first two, not great with the third - but that's not to say you won't be ok with your fourth.

Speak to your OB or midwife about how to manage it this time around - a managed third stage sounds like it may help with the bleeding - depending on what the cause of it was last time :hug:

yes i agree here as well, find out why this happened it may make u feel better about it , and they can talk u through it and if needed help you to kake sure it doesnt happen again or is managed better

I was fine with my first two as well - both were normal spontaneous labours with only ARM, but my third one was different. It was an induction after ARM failed to bring on contractions and I had a severe PPH at the end of it as well as a retained placenta. Once you have had a PPH, you are at a slightly higher risk of having another one, but I found after doing a bit of reading while pg with #4, that the risk of having a subsequent PPH was comparable to your 'apparent' risk of having one simply because you are having baby #4. So I wasn't terribly alarmed and knew that more than likely the PPH I did have was related more to the fact that I had an induction than any thing else. So come time to have baby 4 my midwife was prepared for it, but it never happened. I didn't have another PPH and bleeding was normal lochia. at 10 days PP I did pass a massive clot about tennis ball size and I had a bit of bleeding after that which stopped after an hour.

As Trillian said, there is an increased risk of it happening again, but it's not a given. I had a retained placenta and PPH with my 2nd, my third was complication free but my 3rd had a large secondary PPH. ?They will probably be watching you and may even have IV synto ready to go JIC.

Before you had your PPH did you have any symptoms? I had a back pain and pain in my bum that I felt wasn't right. I wasn't experiencing much external loss because the clots had blocked the cervix. I also felt like I wasn't in my head and very shivery if that makes sense for a while before they discovered the PPH.

If you can remember any thing strange before it happened, then speak up if you notice it happening again. I think mine was more severe because I felt silly complaining. If I'd said something earlier they may have investigated and I wouldn't have gone through as much trauma having it controlled IYKWIM.

Rivals thank you, you did read my mind i have all intentions in speaking to my MW when i have my first appointment which is still a few weeks away so that is why i thought i would ask here as well, once again thank you!!

They never did end up giving me a reason why, my placenta was GREEN and sent it away to be tested and i was not no news was good news and i never heard anything!! DD had a slight temp when born but was fine!!

trillian and raven i did not really have any feeling until i was haemorrhaging i felt like i was not myself. It happened about 15 minutes after birth i think :) The only feeling i had that was strange was that i felt like i needed to wee !!! But i didn't it was the clots needing to come out!!! Also i went into labour with DD at home i went to hospital they broke my waters and she had done a poo thats it!!

Thanks for everyone's help I really do appreciate it, I suppose i can not stop it from happening i just need to be aware and make sure everyone else is too!!!

Sorry love. A managed third stage is where once bubs head is out they give you an injection in the side or in your iv of synto to help the uterus contract a bit harder thus expelling the placenta quickly. Theory goes that it helps to cauterize off any bleeds caused by the placenta coming away.

A physiological third stage is when you allow the placenta to come away naturally without any intervention

There are pros and cons to both - so you might want to read up on both before your next.

Nikki, I didn't feel anything either. I was still on the bed and snuggling DD and giving her a BF and then they started looking worried and saying, "umm we're just going to give your belly a bit of a rub because the placenta isn't coming out' and they did that and tugged on the cord a bit and got me to keep feeding DD, thinking that it would help release the placenta and then I started bleeding and it was action stations. I still felt fine for a bit but by the time they wheeled me down the hall to theatre I was feeling very woozy and sleepy and once in there I had to sign the consent form and I could hardly see it because my vision was all blurry. So I went downhill pretty quickly and I think that it would have been 20 minutes tops from the time it started to the time I got into theatre because it was a small hospital they had to get all the theatre staff there and the other Dr who was the anaesthetist was at home so he had to come in. It could have been less time, I'm really vague on the finer details of it all but it wouldn't have been any longer than that.

When I was in after having DD1, there was a young girl who had her first baby, she was only 17 and her birth was textbook - spontaneous labour, only lasted about 5 hours and peri was intact. The next night though she started passing clots and they had to take her to theatre to get them all out so her haemorrage was like yours and it was completely unexpected and her only sign was needing to wee but couldn't.
