Does your dog sleep inside?

Just wondering where everyone stands on this one? We got a new family member 2 weeks ago he is currently snoring his head off on the lounge. Now I dont mind him being inside at night really(he's outside during the day) but DP has to get up and let him out 3 times a night so he can wee...

If your dog sleeps inside does he go out during the night to wee?

Our dog sleeps under our bed. When she was a puppy we used to put her in the laundry at night until she was fully toilet trained. Now we take her outside before we go to bed and let her out as soon as we wake up. She rarely has accidents inside.

Our dog sleeps inside at night - he sleeps in the dining room down the end of the house so he is shut off from the kids. He very rarely needs to go out at night - probably once a year! He has a well trained bladder :lol:

Hey Peach, our dog sleeps outside. He has a kennel but is most often found sleeping on his mat next to it, only seems to use the kennel when it's REALLY cold. I've had dogs all my life & they've never slept inside.
How old is the dog? Is he just a young 'un? Possibly the night peeing will cease eventually if that's the case.

Our 8 year old dog sleeps inside. She goes out for a wee before we go to bed, and doesn't go outside again until we wake up in the morning - and she hasn't peed in the house since she was a puppy.

Our dog is a 24/7 inside dog and sleep under our bed, or on top if she is cold LOL. She had to be and inside dog when we got her because she could dig her way out under our unfinished fences :lol: She is almost 13 now and rarely goes outside during the night for wee.

Yes she does sleep inside - when she was a puppy she slept in a basket she couldn't get out of and wouldn't need a wee all night - I'd take her out as soon as she stirred in the morning. She does need to wee during the night sometimes and has a 'wee pad' type thingy that she does it on so I don't have to take her out.

He is 5 months old only a baby still. When will the night weeing end? Will it just gradually decrease one by one? Its like having a newborn all over again. He totally rocks though :)

Our boy has his doggy condo in the laundry - I remember my mum toilet training a puppy to an area of the laundry floor with newspapers when we first had it. Mind you that pup got the works, mum put it to bed with a hot water bottle and a tick-tock clock to reassure it :lol:

My girl co-sleeps with us. She'll go to the toilet before bed and if it's not too cold in the morning she'll go out during the day. There are some mornings she won't get out of bed cause it's too cold. Those days I feel like my Mother when she would try to get me out of bed for school :redface:

I never had a dog whilst growing up and when I started seeing DP his dog co-slept with him when I came on the scene it was a hard transition for her having to share the bed with me... There were a few nights when she would push me to the bed frame so she would have all the room.

This may seem unconventional for some, but for us the girls are our children. However, we are aware that they are doggies and implement Casear Millians principles into our lifestyle, obedience before affection and all of that :)

Our beautiful dog sleeps outside although he is in a very well protected laundry with a trampoline bed where he can be found sometimes during the day. He loves his bed. He also enjoys inside time on his blanket and knows no other rooms except the living area where his blanket is.

When he was a puppy & we first put him outside to sleep he would come up to the back door & cry. It was heartbreaking but after a few nights he realised it didn't get him anywhere & now he loves going down to bed...if we leave it too late he gets restless & asks to go down.

All dogs are different though, as are all owners. I would never have my dog in my bed or on my sofa, there are very clear rules when he is in the house but that is just me.

I have 2 dogs, both sleep inside. We crate-trained both of them. I think the key really is to teach the dogs to pee on command. With horses, they whistle while the foals pee, then it becomes like a Pavlov reaction for them to wee when whistling (which is handy for drug testing ;) ). Because I find it difficult to whistle at night in the cold I say "widdle widdle widdle" in a high-pitched voice. The dogs are widdled right before bed, then taken out right as they wake up. After about 8 - 10 months she was able to last through the night, but would lose control if excited or left too long in the morning. After about 12-14 months she could walk downstairs and through the house (without stopping) to get outside. She's now 2 and able to hold on even if I stop to pat a cat or make my own pit-stop :)

My big dog used to sleep inside until I was pregnant and DP transitioned him to outside and built him a kennel. He'd still spend lots of time inside until we got the second dog, the little one, then they both went outside for most of the time (and shared the kennel, very cute!!). When big dog was a puppy we would leave paper out for him to pee on in case I missed his calls for needing to wee. I house trained him in about 3 weeks cos I was home all the time at the time and didn't have kids to distract me. It will pass. Housetraining a puppy takes less time than toilet training a toddler, so take heart!
Now that we're at MiL's we're keeping the little one inside at night and whenever she wants in the day, because she's got a high pitched bark and she's quiet if she's inside.
I had a pomx sheltie that I loved to sleep with when I was single. He would snuggle right up to me and if I moved he moved with me. DP couldn't stand it, and once, when the dog came with me to DP's house in the early days, DP put him into the back room. My beautifully house-trained dog very quickly taught DP what he thought of being separated at night... :o Poo everywhere!! That dog and I had a rapport that I don't think can ever be replicated. He was killed by a car only weeks before I found out I was pg.

ohh nope...we'd never get any sleep because he'd be bouncing arouund the house all night! Lol

He doesn't have a kennel anymore, we got rid of it when we moved because he never used it. he used to when it had a dog bed inside it, but of course he had to keep dragging that outside and tear it apart :shakehead:

now he sleeps underneath the house, if it's raining we usually open the laundry door for him so he can get out of the rain.

Our Esmae sleeps out side...:o i couldnt imagine the amount of hair she would drop inside there is enough hair outside daily to make a nice rug ;)

Pippy-dog sleeps outside here, too ;) We had her inside full-time as a pup but it was just too messy... no matter what we tried, she wouldn't/couldn't be toilet-trained and it was just too much for me (being heavily pregnant and chasing a toddler) to clean up the endless puddles and poos every day. DH got fed up and put her outside, he and my dad built a little kennel for her that sits on the front verandah so she has somewhere warm to sleep on cold/wet nights (there's a big doona in there for her to snuggle) but some really cold nights I let her into the laundry as it's babygated off from the rest of the house and the floor is concrete so easily cleaned up the next morning.
