Changing Nappy is such a drama. anyone else?

DD just refuses to ever ever ever lay on her back, she flips over so fast, before I can even try to keep her down. Now I have to change her nappy by running after her with wipes, and hoping she doesn't smush everything into the carpet, her clothes etc. I practically cry with frustration every time.
And don't get me started on trying to put a nappy on. She is practically nappy free from 7am-7pm...
I've tried giving her special forbidden toys etc to play with but she just flips over straight away and plays with them in crawling position. I quickly sing songs etc, I feel like I've tried everything.
Anyone else have this issue and what do you do about it?

My nephew does that, I try to get him involved, I get him to hold the nappy, hold the wipes, lift his legs up etc. Not sure if thats any help :)

If you use disposables, maybe move onto Nappy Pants instead so she doesn't have to lay down? I know Elijah is a pain to change also! I think it depends on his mood lol. Mostly it involves him screaming blue murder and me just doing it all as fast as I can!

I use disposables when I desperately want her in the nappy, but I try to use terry flats.. I hate sposies :(
I don't know, my main issue is the cleanup being so difficult, I always get worried I haven't cleaned her properly.
She flips over before I've even removed my hand from behind her neck iykwim?? It's just immediate, and I've tried just holding her down, but I need both hands to do it, so then it's really square 1 again..

can you wear a funny hat or bunny ears? bubble blower?

give her special toy to hold? your mobile or a remote control?

You've been given some great tips, some I'll even try myself! Moo has hated having his nappy changed for months. He crosses his ankles, raises them up and then BAM! Whacks me on my wrists or hands! He'll also twist his body completely around if I hold onto his feet (to stop the previous issue) so he's practically dangling!
He screams and cries as if he's being totured, completely does my head in. I hope we both find a solution!

We have this EXACT problem. DS is rolling over before I've even put him down! Nothing will distract him and I've resorted to changing nappies standing up. We now use the nappy pants, I ran out and had to use flats the other day and it was HELL. I truly feel you pain.
I don't have any advice, just wanted you to know you are not alone.

With holding her down, I change him on the floor now and put my feet firmly but gently on his shoulders. He HATES it, screams bloody murder but he does that anyway.

On the plus side it does pass, but man I know how frustrating it is.
I have used various opions as offered above, but sometimes I just have to sit on the floor and put my ankles on his shoulders and hold him between my legs, or otherwise hold his shoulders down (gently) with my knees and change him upside down. I'm pretty good at lightening speed now but he's my second wriggler....and my hands are nice and strong after years of wrangling with crooks in handcuffs (:redface:)

do you use a change table? If you don't, even just get a change table mattress (one with the sides a bit higher than where they actually lie). DD is pretty good usually, but I find when I visit my parents and have to change her on the bed/floor it is a nightmare because she'll just roll over and crawl away..the sides on the change table mat, while they might not stop her completely may at least slow her down a bit!
Are there any songs that she loves? If DD starts getting upset I sing 'Hot Potato' which she loves, or Rock a bye your bear, and other silly little songs. But she isn't as bad as your DD so don't know if that will distract her enough.. :hug:

Wow I didn't even think to use my feet to hold her down, I have to try that!
Also, wearing a funny hat is a brilliant idea, I'll have to go and get one from the $2 shop.
And the Iphone idea, I will definitely try it. It's reassuring to know we're not the only ones. Everyone else I know thinks I'm exaggerating when I explain that nappy changes take nearly 30 minutes.

In our house we sing Bum songs. That is - well known dramatic songs with "bum" replacing the words. Ie. Bum-bum-bum BUUMMM. etc or the star wars imperial march lol. Bum bum bum BUM bum-bum BUM bum bum... Gets his attention every time. Always worth a try.

Oh I LOVE it! lol. Sometimes if I have INTG or Yo Gabba Gabba on DVD on for him and just whisper to him that I'm just going to quickly clean his bottom for him before I pick him up to lay him down.... sometimes.. that works ... but ahhh he is still a tough customer compared to Oskar who would just lay there for you lol.

yep, holding them down by there shoulders worked prety well with the boys! i found it easier to adapt nappy time to changing them while they were standing, less drama, just not sure how you would do that with terrys? have a friend who, if there at home, use to put there son in the laundry tub and clean poos up in there, just give him a quick bottom wash, worked for them, im not real keen on that method, but its a idea! DD is starting to want to flip and kick at nappy time, but she hates being wet or dirty so dosent kick up to much (hoping she stays that way!)

nah, DD hit a spot at 16 months where she liked listening to instructions. I ask her to lie down to change her nappy now and 80% of the time she does. Right now she's teething so 20% of the time she's a pain in the arse lol. She likes helping so I say "can you please help mummy by being good while you get a dry bum?". We also have a silly made up song I sing when she's changed but she LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES music so I have the benifit there
