car seats? what to do?

DS has his capsule still, with the new baby coming in August I was going to buy DS a new seat and put his back to the capsule stage.

However it seems DS is too small for a toddler seat and the capsules go up to 18kg? am i right?

So what did you do?
Should i just buy another capsule for the new baby and keep ds in his seat until he is over 18kg?

Im confused and DS chucking tantrums isnt helping me to think :(

Help please I need to buy one soon as MIL is pressuring me, otherwise she wont buy anything... IYKWIM :)

There are the seats now that go from Toddler to childhood, look for one of those
Chairs for your DS. He would still need to be in a 5poont harness so those seats would be the best. Hopefully someone else can tell you the name.

How much longer would you get out of the one ds is in now? How heavy is he?
Do the other seats start at 18 kgs or could he go into one soon?
I'd say get him a new seat otherwise you'll have 2 capsule-18kg and won't need 2 for much longer.

The toddler seats are from 12kgs I think. Like the Maxirider or it's equivalent from Target/BigW. They still have a 5point harness for littler kids but can convert to a booster for older ones. Hit her up for a Maxi Rider AHR.

Maxirider goes from 8kg to 26kg.

With the new laws & needing to keep children in seats longer I would opt to buy one that goes right through. There are some out there now that do just that...then you don't have to get another one again later on. We got a maxi rider for DS1, fairly expensive & due to him growing very quick & being very stocky at age four we've had to buy yet another seat. Otherwise why don't you just hire a baby capsule for the first few months, then re-think what you want to do.

I thought capsule's only went to 9-12kgs
convertible car seats go from birth to 18kg
and boosters from 8kg to 26kg ish ( i have heard there is a 32kg one available)

The one Im looking at is a convertible...capsule to 18kg, this is what DS has too...

How old are they before they get to this weight (18kg?) i know i was 32kg at 12 yrs old.... lol

sooo a booster could be an option then? I will have a look tomorrow. My only close options are Big W and target ....

DS1 (nearly 3) is in a Maxrider AHR its 8 - 26kg. Great seat no issues.

DS2 is in Meridian that is birth to 18kg.

M2R a booster seat with an in built 5 point harness would be suitable (like the harness on the seat he has now. When he gets bigger you can take out the inbuilt harness and use a seatbelt or H harness. Hope this makes sense?

My DS will be 20 months when this baby comes along. He is currently in a SnS Meridian AHR convertible (birth-18kg). We will be using his seat for the new baby and buying a SnS Maxi Rider AHR (8kg-26kg) for DS.

We just bought a babylove ezy combo; convertible booster 8-26kg with inbuilt harness till 18kg. It has a four star safety rating (CREP 2011) and is about half the price of the maxirider! DS1 is very comfortable and even falls asleep in it; can't fault it.

When DD2 came along we put her in DD1's old seat and got DD1 a maxi rider AHR :)

You don't want a convertible from birth. You want one from 8kgs.

The new laws say that your DS has to be in a 5 point harness until he is 4. At 12 kg he is not heavy enough for a booster, they are only legal for over 14kg, and that is only if he is over 4 years old too. Your only real options at this point are to hire/ borrow a capsule and keep DS in his current seat (assuming it is a convertible one and not an actual infant capsule) or get a toddler seat like the maxi rider that goes from 8kg.

A convertible child restraint goes from birth to 18kg and can be used either rear or forward facing, a toddler seat goes from 8kg to 26kg and has a built in 5 point harness that can be removed once your child is over 4 years. A booster is from 14kg and doesn't have a built in harness. I used a convertible seat with both DSs from birth.
