does your doctor "jab"the needle in???

I was just wondering if this was the normal procedure,i cant remember with DD but last time I took my DS to docs to have his injections the doctor really grabbed a chunk of his skin like huge big bit of his fat thigh and really jabbed the needle in,it looked really painful and my DS cried I was just wondering if this is normal and why?If its not i will take him to another doctor for them it just seeemed really rough and painful i just didnt know if this is what they are meant to do why if anyone knows?thanks

I have no idea why, could it be to avoid the muscle?

I don't think all of them do it like that - I seem to remember (though it was a while ago now) that DD's doctor was very quick but still gentle, he talked to her and distracted her by clicking his tongue/smiling at her for her 8 week shots and it was all over in seconds. Didn't stop her from giving me an outraged squeal that I let him do it though!

I am going to be taking DS back to the same doctor for his needles in a few weeks. Not looking forward to it.

When they (used to) teach giving injections they taught to squeeze so that the muscle is raised (ie you don't just inject into fat - it is an intramuscular injection) and aim the syringe like a dart. A quick sharp jab gives a much cleaner, smoother and less painful entry. However...roughness is dependent on the individual jabber I guess.

Yeah most of the doctors I have been to do it like that. The best one I ever had was when the doctor spent 1-2 mins desensitising the area so flicking on it (like you would flick away something on the table) and then I barely felt it go in.

I agree...

TBH I would not see a Dr for any injection unless it was really necessary, In hospitals, nurses give injections, in dr surgeries, nurses usually do them too, they have HEAPS more experience and therefore are less likely to cross the grain of them muscle or bruise you... It's one of these things that practice does make perfect... Drs just don't do it that often enough IMO... But that's just me ;)
