Maternity Immunisation Allowance for an 08 baby

I recieved a letter today stating that this payment ceases on July 1.

I recieved a payment last fortnight, so I wasn't worried... but then I realised I didn't know which child I'd actually recieved it for! (It doesn't say online... I checked :lol:) DD3 is almost 19 months & DS is 4. I can't remember when they started splitting it into 2 part payments either (it was one payment at 18 months with my girls).

Since DD was only just 18 months (by about 3 days) & DS had turned 4 & had his needles a month prior, could that have been his payment? The letter only mentioned DD's name, so I assume thats because I haven't recieved hers yet? She'll be 19 months in a few days... (I think its usually paid with in the month of being that age).

I actually forgot the payment had been split & can't remember how it was for DS. And I assume this means I won't get the second part of DD's payment?

They should have my medicare details, so I shouldn't have to do anything, but there's nothing in my past or future payments list to assume I'll be getting another Immunisation payment?

Ohh I didn't know the immunisations ones were finishing.

DS1 is 4 early July, so I should go get his needles done soon then should I??

I don't know... My health nurse from years ago refused to do them before the date they were whatever age. Yet DS had his 4y ones done the day before his b'day with no worries :dunno:

MCHN or council open sessionscant do them early something to do with the funding but GP can. I know DS1 had his chicken pox early as I wanted him to have it before DS2 was born so he had it at 17 months

Its difficult to understand! I just reread it & it says that they plan to increase immunisations rates over time, but maternity immunisation allowance will cease as part of these changes... It doesn't actually explain the changes.

DD2 has just turned 4 and I got that letter as well. Must remember to book her in.

if your child qualified for MIA for either the 18 month or 4 year immunisation prior to june 30, it will still be paid. Feeb, this does not mean getting your DS immunised early will get you the payment - yes, he will be immunised/vaccinated but he won't have met the other part of the qualification (the age related rules)

Clover, if your DD is only just 18months, and your DS is between 4 and 4y3m, i would assume it is for your DS, and another installment would be due for your DD soon. you should have received (or will shortly receive) a letter about the one of payment explaining who it is for. generally, data matching for the 18 month installment starts happening at 19months (hence my assumption that the payment is for your son)

i was just about to refer to the previous thread that Astrid mentioned. essentially MIA will cease - instead of having a monetary incentive that is deemed tiny in comparison to other entitlements (what's $129 compared to the supplements that people receive at tax time?) - essentially in the year your child turns 1, 2 and 5 (from memory - it may be 4!) if your child is not up to date with vaccinations (OR on an approved catch up plan OR have a conscientious objection in place, registered with the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register - ACIR), your payment of ftba supplement (currently approx 726 per child) will not be paid for that child. so i guess it's going to be a penalty for those who forget or choose NOT to follow through (with vaccination or registering conscientious objection/catch up plan) rather than the perceived "reward" that MIA is currently

But he will have as they can have then i think its up to 8 weeks before age they are due. Rediculous if they must be 4 before 30th june!

the age rules have always been in place - between 18 months and 2 years for the first installment, between 4 and 5 years for the second. just because you can have the vaccination is irrelevant. the qualifying ages are set. the first installment only includes up to the 1 year immunisation (chicken pox isn't included in that one as it's not national) - but it can't be paid until the child is at least 18 months. same as the second installment

you make a claim on or before your child's 5th birthday
you are eligible for Family Tax Benefit for the child (disregarding the FTB income test)
you have care of your child for 35% of the time or more
you meet the residence requirements
your child meets the immunisation requirements - between 18–24 months old for the 1st amount, and between 4–5 years old for the 2nd amount.

My friend also got one for her DD (4 today), so I figured it must've been DS's, & that DD's should be on its way since his name wasn't on the letter.

I think I did recieve the letter about the payment, but I knew thats what I recieved so didn't read it in detail to see who's payment it was.

Subbing. DD who turnd 4 end of march also got a letter. I skimmed through it but nthng got thru to me lol.

Am I suppose to action it or is it auto paid?

if you are registered (so you got the 18 month installment) you should automatically get the second intallment

I'm going to get DS done later this month so hopefully I still get this. I was going to use the money to help buy him a new car seat. I hope it's back in by the time my girls are 4 to help cover the cost of 3 new car seats :(

i wouldn't put any stock in it being reinstated. it's been reduced from 250 to 130 to zero (with a huge penalty if you aren't meeting requirements) in terms of supplements - i don't see them reinstating it any time soon. i would budget to get car seats from another source (supplements or something)
