Baby name vent

It's driving me bananas!!!!!

I thought I had our names sorted. Turns out I don't.

I adored DD's name, had for years and named her without a second thought (even though the name became insanely popular by the time we had her).

This time, I'm yet to find a name I love. I feel like I need to love it. We have a girls name that I like a lot and DH loves, but I'm struggling big time with a boys name.

I've been using nymbler and it's giving me names straight out of the Muppets!!!!

And every suggestion I throw at DH gives me the reply of "Hmmmmm". Helpful!

Did you pick a name based on liking it only and it grew on you, or was it something you HAD to love?

We liked Zara but we grew to LOVE it, with A we picked her name after our 12wk scan and never doubted it, didn't even look for anything else. Same as M though by the time we had her it was VERY popular.
Z wasn't so easy but I think it suits her.

What kind of names are you looking for? Traditional, a little different?

I found it hard with this baby b/c we only had one girls name, which obviously we used for our DD. Even with her name I found it tough - DH & I just couldn't agree! We had boys names from last time but alot have been taken by friends now, so they have been vetoed....We have really struggled to agree on names again so it is sort of a wait and see if anything pops up in the next few months (we are only 16 weeks pg) and go from there.

I had to love it, the 'lightbulb' moment. I had two names for DS that we liked, and then one night DP came home and said 'what about Chevy?' and instantly it felt 'right'. Those other two names are still nice names, but for someone else's kids, not mine :)

I'm struggling with names too. My DH is the biggest pain in the wotsit when it comes to names - he will either straight out say "no" when I ask him if he likes something, or if he's feeling particularly helpful will add that its "old fashioned and pretentious". I get NOTHING in return from him and he says he can't think about names until he sees the baby.

I have one name in particular that I absolute love and have for years. If it was just up to me, no question that its the one, but DH doesn't like it. So, TBH my name choices are always based on what I can actually get him to at least grudgingly admit to being "ok", and my "loves" are usually rejected. I've got four on a short list this time, I've told him my short list and told him to just deal with it! There are two on it that I love, and two that I like a lot.

I hope you find a boy's name soon that you like.

ETA: Just wanted to add that one of the loves on my list is a name that I heard and thought oh yeah that's not too bad. It has really grown on me now and I absolutely love it, so maybe the same will happen to you.

Can totally relate, especially regarding boys names. Every name I loved, DH flat out refused to consider. For DS, I wrote a list & DH picked a name from it. It just happened to be my number two name :lol: so I love it. But the boys name we picked for DD if she was a boy, I didn't love at all. I liked it but didn't love it. The only reason I agreed to it was because I knew she was a girl. DH didn't know I'd found out so we had to pick a boys name.

i totally know how you feel, searching for boys names when pg with ds3 totally stressed me out and did my head in. with ds1 and ds2 we seemed to pick thier names early on and loved them and knew that would be their name.
with ds3 it was a total different story. i got so sick of name searching (and yes nymbler never gave me anything worth considering) we had a list of 6-7 names which for whatever reason 1 or the other liked more than the other.
The name we end up going with was a name i brought to the table early on in the peace and we did not love it but it grw on us. we only decided 2 days b4 he was born what his name would be and all of a sudden it clicked and we LOVED it and knew that was meant to be.
so i hope it comes to you to and just because a name doesnt jump out as your favourite right off the bat, sit on it for a while and it may just grow on you.

:hug: I'm there with you. Have a boys name, have since pregnant with DD, but for the life of us we can't find a girls name. It's really frustrating.

ZF - I think I love traditional names, but they tend to be the popular ones. So we are looking for something different, but not too out there. What's the bet we go with something widely used though :lol:

Ive had names picked for like 10 years, and even though I always knew they would be my babies names, now I'm actually pregnant I have to say I've questioned them, never the first name, but the middle names, one in particular (if Spock is a boy it will be his 2nd middle name). I LOVE the meaning of the name, but the name itself isn't sitting well with me, DH hasnt helped every alternative he has shot down so Id say I'll just keep it how it is, and I expect it to grow on me.

I also think that because I have had these first names picked for so long, they are locked in just because of the time. I still love them, and I think part of that is because they have always been the names and are 'normal' to me. does that make any sense?
our boys name has grown in popularity too, I now a few kids with them name, plus it is a common nick name for a more common name. This did turn me off a little, but at the same time it has never been an option to change it because they have been locked in for so long.

When I was 11 years old I used to tell my parents, quite genuinely too, that I was going to have 6 kids....3 of each to be precise.
The only ones I remember now though are:
Trinity Drew
Harmony Rhys (and go figure my DD is a Harper and DS has Rhys as his middle name after my late BIL)

I imagine if I told my parents that I was still having 6 kids today, they'd probably say something like 'please for goodness sake give them a normal name then'....because they honestly believe my kids names are 'unusual'. I'd have to disappoint, just to be traditional in my own sense and give them something 'Sunny style' :p

Baby names are sooo hard!! I had beautiful names picked out for my future children.
Then I meet a guy with a sucky last name. So, nearly all my names went out the window. The names that didn't go out the window were things like his sister's name, ex's name and bed buddy's name. So, out the window they went.

DH had a boys name picked out for years, and I liked it. We were on holiday and he turned around and said "What about Hannah?"....."OK. Cool." and that's how we got Hannah.
Our boy's name we haven't kept for this bub because I learned later that DH and his ex had always said that if they had a baby they would use that name....

This time, the girl's name took some convincing but we love it so much. We heard it when DD was in hospital and we've always remembered it. It's not very common at all.
The boy's name took a while and it started as one name, then suggested a different version of it, then something slightly different. The middle name started off as a joke, but now quickly fell in love with it.

I named dd2 before I knew she was a she. I totally loved loved loved the name.

DH named the other three. Some I liked, some I didn't. But they have all grown on me and I love them now just as much as dd2s name.

The past is well and truly the past, he knew after 18mos in that relationship that it wasn't going to work out. But he stayed with her for another 18mos, living 3 hours away. Long story, but I just don't want to use that name.

I really prefer the boy's name we've got picked out this time anyway. It's a name DH and I came across and fell in love with together.

I cant wait to see your BA charlotte and discover 'his' name! :)

About halfway through my pregnancy with DD2 we had decided she was "April". DP loved the name, I was only a like but since I got to pick "Imogen" (DD1) with noone else to weigh in and it was my in love name I thought it seemed fair. As time went on though, I was less and less keen on April and suddenly, pretty close to her birth, Aubrey popped into my head and I loved it... lucky DP did too. So you never know when THE name will come!

I'm so glad we didn't have boys! We had our girls names chosen and set early on but boys names were up in the air and we had a couple that we liked but didn't love.

We thought we had DD2's middle name sorted but then a friend had a baby before us and named their daughter the exact same first and middle names we were going to use completely coincidentally! So we had to choose another - DD1 ended up choosing it and it was the name of our OB :lol: I think it works even better that what we were going to use!
