New job, 6 mth Probation period, and 5 weeks pregnant

I need advice!!
I found out last Thursday that we are expecting but I was made redundant recently (2weeks before I found out pregnant)
I have looking for work, initially it was full time as I didn't know I was pregnant. I haven't told any recruitment consultants yet. I went for an interview today, they have requested a second one, which is great! It's a full time role with a 6 mth probationary period.

When should I tell them??
I had a m/c earlier this year do as much as I'm optimistic about this preg I feel it's very early days too, and if something happens I'd hate up have lost the chance at this role!
Help?!!

i was in very similar circumstances, and my rule was not to tell any potential employers before 12 weeks.

You don't legally have to tell them but I think you have a moral obligation to let them know. If you are the best person for the role, it may not make a difference. But I think you need to disclose because they will need to replace you when you leave in X number of months.

I'm in this position now though not preg I want to be in a month or 2 and like you will have to serve 6 months probation but I don't think they can legally fire you during probation cause you are preg.

I know there are a few HR peeps on here maybe one of them can better answer

As a hr person, I wouldn't tell. At this stage most people wouldn't know they were pregnant. Also I would want to make sure everything was ok before telling an employer about a pregnancy. As much as it shouldn't make any difference to a potential employer you can't read people's minds so don't give yourself a disadvantage. If you get the job you have plenty of time to tell them and plan around it.

As you can tell I'm up thinking about at an un godly hour!
I need to wait it out till 12 weeks for my own piece of mind, but I guess I'm just concerned if I wait till then, they'll question my motives. Of course I'll be honest in telling them reasons why I waited, I just hope that's enough!

Firstly..congratulations on your PG!
I agree with your decision not to tell, given your recent experience and that it apparently is illegal for them to discriminate against you because you are pg. Do you know much about the company? They don't need to know until they really need to know!

When I was nine weeks pg I was going for jobs. I had six lined up through recruitment consultants and they were all hankering at the bit - offering massive money and great conditions.

As soon as I said I was pg, all the job offers were withdrawn.

And I'm in the legal field which should know better about discrimination.

So I wouldn't say anything.

Yep - I wouldn't say anything either. But I work for a huge employer so they could cover my position no worries - the only time that I would feel a moral obligation is if it was a tiny company and they were going to invest a lot of money in training etc - then I would feel bad not telling them.

Update - after thinking about the role (thought separating about bubs) it's not a role I do not have skills in, I know they can be learnt, but they kept emphasizing the commitment required for getting deadlines done, which could involve late nights. Not to mention, it would be up to me to ensure those deadlines were met by other depts but I was titled a manager and the pay was pretty cruddy for that stress!!
So I decided to take 'all good things come to those that wait' attitude!
