3 hr glucose challenge test/GD
Hi, was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me;
On Monday I had my antenatal appointment and was told my 1 hr glucose challenge test came back high.
I've been told that I will need to have the 3 hr test done and have booked it for 9/2.
My question is: will diet change and increasing excercise help the result of this test? Or is GD just something if u have it - then you have it? Before the test I was indulging a little to much with cravings but have since changed my diet to stick with healthy nutritious food. It was a bit of a wake up call and has given me the push to become more healthy for me and my baby. Any replies or experiences would be greatly appreciated :) thanks in advance!

I don't think it will make a difference!
I'm quite healthy and thought there was no chance I could have GD as I didn't come under any of the "high risk" areas.
Even after changing my diet and eating even healthier after I was diagnosed, I was put on insulin 4 weeks later when it got worse.
Although my level was really high, like 9.5! If yours is lower you might be ok.

I had a high reading with the initial appointment and was shocked because I eat so well and I was told by my Dr that it is to do with how the pancreas produces insulin or something similar.
Re: 3 hr glucose challenge test/GD
It seems to be one of those things that you either get or you don't. The ladies in my belly buddies group that got GD seemed to have rather healthy diets from memory, whereas I was having chocolate daily and my test results couldn't have been better if I tried! The more you can control it with diet the better though.

Thanks for your replies! The level was 9.9!!! So I probably have a pretty slim chance of passing I think. Although I did have a higher first test when preg with my DD 5 yrs go - and the second test came back fine. So I guess it's just fingers crossed!

Yea I had no GD with bubs 1 & 2 but number three I did. There is no rhyme or reason, nothing you can do to stop it :) obviously just watch what you eat before the test (you will need to fast) so you get as accurate result as possible!

Just thought I'd post a quick update, I had the 3 bt glucose test on Friday and got the results back yesterday at my antenatal app - test levels were all fine and well within normal range :) the midwife was quite surprised considering the result of the first test being so high!!!
