Birthday Party - WWYD?
My DS2, aged 5.5, has been invited to a birthday party on Sunday. We have RSVP'd to say he will be attending. His behaviour over the past few weeks leaves a lot to be desired! :wall: Have you, or would you, ever go back on a RSVP as a punishment? Admittedly, (after an incident this morning) I am a little wound up, but I am thinking he sooo doesn't deserve to be going!! But then I feel bad for the birthday child, who has done nothing wrong.

Can you use it as an advantage, your not going unless your behaviour picks up?
Maybe contact the mum & explain?

Just my opinion, but I think you need to find something else for him to miss out on. Not fair to the birthday child (or their parents).

I did that with a play date, but in hindsight, it was the other child that suffered most, not mine.
At the moment, the thing I am having most effect with is taking away a possession and putting it up high, and my DD (almost 6) has to earn it back.

I think it would upset the birthday child too, find another way to stop the behaviour if you can.

When I calmed down and thought about it, it is unfair on the birthday child and their parent. I know in our family birthdays are a big deal, and I'd be upset for my children if one of their little friends said they were coming then went back on that. Thanks for your opinions :)

It's also probably better for your consequences to be related to the behaviour if possible. That way kids get the connection a bit better... Not always easy, but if you can try it will probably help
 its hard when you are frustrated and they just don't see to get it!
