Females are better at getting mice/snakes and bugs (or maybe the latter is just my odd ball cat)
Males are more cuddly and want affection.
So if you want to get rid of mice a female is the better option you want snuggles and and bed warmer and male cat is the better bet.
I vote girl cats.
Generally I prefer make animals, but when it comes to cats, the females just seem to be a better temperament for a family.
Ours have always been great mice catchers, cuddly and playful. We don't have inside cats though....
Our female was neurotic, flighty and aloof. But kind of cooler 'cause she was smarter and knew her own mind. Our male was big, fat, cuddly and content... and a bit thick. He'd stalk birds but would never remember to keep his tail from twitching so the birds would just look up like they were thinking 'duh, I can see you' and fly off. Funny fatso.
Boy cats spray. Girl cats don't. That's all you need to know.
Boy cats definitely bigger sooks. Girls cats I find can vary.
Have had both, find the hunting ability varies between them regardless of gender.
Nope, have had 2 girls cats that have sprayed. They were fixed older, one at 1yo and can't remember when the other was one. One ended up being kidney issues, the other just does not like change, so people in the house or a new pet will have her marking.:

I prefer male cats. I find their temperament to be more suited to my family than most female cats.
Yes de-sexed males cats do spray - not all of them, of course. But they do & in larger numbers than female cats.:
Our desexed male started spraying to to uriney tract issues.

Boy cats all the way for me. We had 3 boy cats over the years and none of them sprayed (all indoor cats, maybe that makes a difference? No other scents to spray over??) All cuddle bears. You could pick 'em up, carry them around... Very chilled. My 2 besties all have girl cats and they are all little *****es. :lol: Scaddy and scratchy. But maybe that's just coincidence? I reckon more than looking at the gender, look at their personalities. Spend time with them before committing.
Ps: my boy is an awesome hunter. He catches moths mid-air. True story.
I've got a male and 2 females.
The females love the human males in the house - don't really have much time for us human girls.
My male cat is awesome, he's my favourite. He's big and cuddly and more tolerant of the kids being rough (unless they touch his tail, he has a birth defect and its a bit jagged and stiff so I think it hurts when touched).
All have been fixed and its our female kitten that pees everywhere. Our male cat sometimes misses the litter box when pooping but I don't know any male that has great aim...
As a self-confessed Crazy Cat Lady (I have 6 cats at the moment!) it definitely depends on the individual cat. I have 2 boys and 4 girls. The oldest is nearly 2, and the youngest 3 (siblings) are nearly 1. They are all rescued cats from SAFE (Saving Animals from Euthanasia), and all have been desexed soon as they were old enough, and they are all inside cats with an enclosed run off the side of the house. 1 of the boys will only come to you when he wants attention, doesn't really like being picked up otherwise. The other boy is a total suck, a gorgeous little lap cat, purrs and snuggles. 2 of the girls seem to be loners, they prefer their own company. The other 2 girls are besties, they are never far apart, they sleep together most of the day.
