Split mortgage

Hi, quick question...
Our home loan was all variable, until last week we refinanced and fixed part of it. I checked net bank, but I can only see the variable part, is this normal? Thing is, in the account it says we have been credited $150000 (the bit we fixed) and so shows that we are only $30000in debt, not 180000. It's nice to look at and enjoy the lesser debt... But it makes me uncomfortable not being able to see the other half, I like being able to see exactly where our money is and what is going in and out and up and down.
Is it normal to not see the fixed part? Or has it not completed being processed?

When you refinanced, is it in both your names?

Ok I don't know what bank you are with but I can tell you with 100% certainty, they won't have credited your existing loan unless they had drawn down the other one. It may be that it hasn't been attached to your Internet banking yet. Worth ringing them up to ask what's going on.

Thats why I thought it odd. Id like to be able to see it to know for sure the payments are correct. Esp with the fixed bit cause you get fees if over pay etc

They've just forgotten to add it to your internet banking registration, as it's not automatic. I've forgotten a couple of times and gotten a phone call asking why they've got their money and no loan.

Yep, and it's a massive relief to be away from there on maternity leave!

Definitely keep ringing, if you don't have a dedicated manager it may get forgotten. It's a really simple thing though that they should able to do while you're on the phone.

LOL. I've worked for 3 out of the 4 and it's pretty much the same everywhere. The last one I wasn't employed by the bank but by an outsourcing centre, the volume of work they pump through is amazing, but I just couldn't see where the long-term job satisfaction was. So I made the move to libraries - use the same skill sets, much nicer environment though, though probably not the high-end earning potential if you're ambitious. Funnily enoughmasses of those skills were totally transferable, even though everyone I knew in banking thought that was all they were qualified to do.

Very true! I've been looking for something I could change to after mat leave and had people tell me it'll be too hard to find something I can do that pays well. The pay doesn't really matter though, if I can start enjoying what I do :)
