Ultrasound Results At 35 Weeks Showing Different Dates ** Help Alan **

Hi Everyone,

I am a little concerned !!

Yesterday I went for an ultrasound to see position of a low lying placenta, which has now moved up ( great !! )...

I was 35 weeks and 2 days but my ultrasound is showing that my baby is 37 weeks and
1 day !! with an approx weight of 3.4 kgs. I find this to be a big difference compared to my original dates, that is 13 days difference. I had a scan done at 7.5 weeks and again at 19weeks and all date checked out to be ok and now this . If i go to term ( with my original dates ) am I going to have this massive baby or will it settle down ????

The AFI is 21.3 cm Doppler flow studies are normal with a sample ratio measuring 2.4. The modified BPPscore is 8/8. What does all that mean ?? Should I be concerned ?? Is the baby ok and should my dates be changed to the new edd of 37 wks + 1.

I already have 2 beautiful girls who were both born at 6lb 11oz and 6lb 12oz. And this baby already is more than that, and I am suppose to still have 5 weeks to go !!!!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

dont belive everything they say! my friend went for an ultrasound and was told she has an 11 pound baby on board and they booked her in for a c-section and the baby was 8lb 15oz born!! so dont stress to much!

I'm afraid that I can't be much help. I'm one of those "it'll come when it's ready" type of people.
If there's any concerns, I'm sure that your doc would bring them to your attention.

I would like to hear what others say though..

u/s, especially later ones are not alwyas accurate for weight.
you might have a long thin baby that weighs more than a smaller, chubbier baby too.

I had a 36 week u/s that put my dates 2.5 weeks ahead of my EDD.
My baby was induced at 9 days afer my original EDD.

i was told by dr when i had an u/s at 29 weeks that by now they allow plus or minus 21 days.... so i dont think you have anything to worry about!

same thing happened to me !! dont stress .. at my 19wk scan i was measuring 17 and at a 35 wks scan i was term !! i had an 8lb boy on his due date !!

I would still go by your original dates and if your carer has half a brain they will too. Up until 12 wks of gestation, the scans taken in that time are the most reliable for dating as until that point nearly all babies grow at the same rate - after that genetics takes over. Scans to estimate size at that late a stage are notoriously inaccurate and honestly there should be a law against them - after all they were only doing to scan to check the position of the placenta and not the size of the baby.

It could also be entirely possible that the baby could be a lot larger too, but there is nothing to worry about if baby is large this time - it still has to come out doesn't it?

It is scary to hear news of a big baby... :hug:

BUT! What happens is that your baby is measured and a weight is deduced from those measurements. So a long baby or one with long limbs, a larger head whatever will stretch that weitght out. U/s estimates of weight are notoriously inaccurate at this late stage of pregnancy.

Your results are fine. Your baby is growing. You don't need to change your dates. Let go of the fear of a big baby. More often than not those estimates are not accurate.

hahah dont stress.... my baby was measuring 6 weeks ahead at 34 weeks! lol

hes still measurin ahead, but only by 2 weeks.... anytime now anytime...

and yes, I have heard that the weight cannot be guaranteed in the slightest!!! I'll let u know how my bubs turns out:)

Well at term they said from my U/S that DD was 7lbs 14oz. Nearly 2 weeks later she was born weighing 7lbs 14.5oz. In those 2 weeks i'd gained 2 kg, i seriously doubt she'd only gained half an ounce in those weeks, so SOMEONE was wrong somewhere along the lines.

If it's any comfort the bit of a baby that "hurts" is the head, and big heavy babies and wee skinny babies all have a 34-37cm head, a difference which you wouldn't feel. My sisters SIL had twins in he 70's with twin to twin transfusion syndrome. Fortunately it wasn't bad but one was way smaller. Twin one was 8lb even with a 36cm head circumference, twin 2 was 5lbs 9oz with a 33cm head and she said #2 hurt more! She wasn't torn either, so it wasn't that which made it hurt. Try not to stress hun.

I was more concerned about the actual sizing of the baby with it being 13 days out in gestation more than what the weight of it. I have now come to terms with it and "what will be will be" and I do appreciate every ones responses.

I know how you feel, I've had 3 "sizing" ultrasounds because I've got gestation diabetes and they wanted to check she wasn't getting humungus. Well at the last one at 36 1/2 weeks weeks the ultrasound tech said she was right on the average at 3.2kg about 7.5 pounds, then I went and saw the doctor a week later and he said she could be very big, at least 9 1/2 to 10 pounds, after that I give up, I thought well whatever she is that's ok with me. I was thinking she would be under nine pounds, I don't feel anywhere as big as I was with my other girls who where all over 10 pounds. My GD is now good, so I'd say she wouldn't of put on too much more then she was at the last scan.

I say don't worry about the size, you'll cope with whatever size he or she is. On the plus side I find that big babies feed really well.
I think doctors are hopeless at estimating weights before birth, I'll now in a few days how off they can be :rolleyes:

I hope you have a great delivery and I know your baby will be beautiful no matter what the size :D

Ultrasounds at 35 weeks are very inaccurate, they can be out by as much as 2 weeks or more. Also by their own recommendations they should not be guessing the weight. Their policy on this states that there is no way of getting an accurate weight measurement by using ultrasound.

AFI = amniotic fluid index
The amount of fluid surrounding your baby normal is 5 – 25
Doppler flow studies looks at the blood flow through your baby’s body
BPP score checks the heart beat, breathing movements, baby’s muscle tone and your baby’s movements 8/8 is normal ( should be above 5)
Stick with your original dates.

Pressure down below can be a sign that your baby is engaging and even more so if your belly has dropped and/or you are finding it a little easier to breathe

I hope your right, as my other 2 bubs never engaged until labour had started, so I wasnt quite sure what the pain was. My belly feels like its sitting on my thighs. But if I've been sitting for a while, when I go to get up my legs give way and I get pain from my groin right up to my under belly , is that normal ?? at this stage or is that this baby has a big noggin......:cryinglaugh::cryinglaugh:
