Endometriosis and my family

Most of the girls in my family have been struck by the endometriosis stick.
I am from a family with 6 women and 4 of us have been diagnosed with severe endometriosis.
The oldest sister and an older sister and my twin sister and I all have sereve endometriosis.
I am the youngest in the family and the youngest of twins. Our medical histories vary. We have all gone through a combination of surgery and drugs. As we know endometriosis is individual thing.
I was told by a surgeon, that “women’s problems” are stronger amongst the women in the family if the mother’s side had “women’s problems”. Obviously your dad is not going to have it ha ha. But it wasn’t so much an issue if his mother had “women problems”.
Our grandmother (on mother’s side) and our mother had problems with fibroids and heavy periods.
There are 2 sisters that do not have endometriosis and are fine. I don't know whether endometriosis has a pick and choose attitude. It has definitely gone through our family, like wild fire.

Does anyone else have a sibling that has endometriosis as well?

My mum has almost the exact experience I'm going thru when she was my age, My sister hasn't presented with any problems though, maybe in five years when she's my age things might change (although I hope not for her sake) One of my Grandma's also had endo in her 30's, my other Nan posibly did but she never complained about anything so we'd never know. My cousin says she has similar symptoms to mine but is too stubborn to get checked out (takes after my Nan). And to top it all off my motherinlaw also had endo in her 30's so I've got my fingers crossed for my 2 girls hopefully they won't have to experience any of this.

Hi WA_Endo,

I had never even heard of endo until the doctor suggested it as a possible reason for my crappy AF's. After I had my laparoscopy in March 2005 and discovering I had severe endo, and started talking about it with my family, I also discovered that my Aunty (dads sister) had endometriosis also.

My mum only has brothers and as far as I know no other females in her family have any problems. My sister seems to be ok as well.

Tahlanna - Thank you for the other thread. Interesting reading.
Lynny - Like you, I'd never heard what endo was. Until went to see the Dr. And I too am severe as well. I had 2 laprotomies. I started off the Link to the others realising that they had it too.

It just amazes me how endo just spreads itself around.

We have a history of "female issues" in our family but I am the only one with endo.

Apparently 60% of women have endo and in 40% it causes problems. The other 20% may not even be aware of it.

In my family - the women that have problems - all have different problems.
