You poor thing - nothing worse than getting the flu and you cannot take anything for it! I hope you can get some rest and DP can look after you for a little while.
I would recommend Fess, which is a saline solution, for the sinus. I struggle with sinus infections and had one with each pregnancy and that was the only thing I could use, other than panadol. There is babyfess for babies from newborn in case you need it in a couple of months time...
If the infection gets worse make sure you go to the doctor, you might need antibiotics.
Hope you feel better soon.
Hey darl, I've recently just had the flu and I hate to say but unfortuneatly there's not much we can take.. Lots of panadol every 4 hours and get a packet of Strepsils.. the menthol ones, they kill the bacteria in your throat and numb it. And also drink lots and lots of water possibly even gargle some salt water. As far as I've been told asthma puffers are safe to use during pregnancy. If the Cough etc gets worse, go to your doctor, they try at all costs not to have to put you on anti biotics, but there are other pregnancy approved medicines. Last time i had a chest infection i was given this codeine liquid stuff but it was really expensive 50 bucks for 100mls... best of luck
Thanks guys,
I really appreciate it, you guys know exactly how horrible you feel with the flu its like torture. Lately i feel like ive been hit by a bus. Thanks for the advice unfortunately i cant take codeine cos im allergic, I guess bed rest and panadol will have to do for now.
Thanks heaps guys
frankie, can you go to a chemist or dr? I went to the chemist and at the time I only had the sore throat, and blocked nose, he looked up on the computer what categories the medications were and he said I could only have the Cepacol tablets.
Would eucalyptus on cotton wool balls under or beside your bed of a night time help out
Or the vicks in hot water trick? Even using a vapouriser if you have one?
hope you are feeling better soon
Nic
Yep- bed rest and plenty of fluids... the age old remedy anyway ;)
And panadol to help with the aches and getting some sleep. I had the flu at about 10 weeks... it really sucks when you're already drained from being pregnant.
Take care and get well soon!
I second what ppl have said about Fess spray and Panadol. There are also some cough medicines that you can use safely in pregnancy, but you will need to get the pharmacist to look them up individually on Emims and work out which one suits your needs, as some of them are definitely not recommended for use in PG. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I agree about the Cepacol as that is what I ended up buying last week for the WORST sore throat which then lead to a cold. Apparently Stepsils are alkaline and that is not good for bubs although at this late stage I hardly think it would be a bad thing.
Don't forget hot honey and lemon drinks and yummy chicken soup!!!
Rest, rest, rest!
Good luck.
