alarmed about bonjela!
So I always had the idea that saccharine was a type of sugar, so I wasn't too thrilled about that being in bonjela in the first place. But since reading (just this moment) that it's actually an artificial sweetener . . . I don't think I can use bonjela on Aurelia anymore! Look at this;
Saccharin
Known carcinogen especially linked to bladder and reproductive cancers. Banned in USA in 1977 but reinstated with strict labelling provisions
How sweet it is ...
. . . whatsit? :doh:

Interesting read, but it does not say HOW MUCH do you need to eat before you see the side effects. It's not like she drinks it by the gallon! I don't really think it would do her harm. If used in moderation (like most things in life - chocolate, ice-cream, excersice) I don't think it would be harmfull, my opinion :)
BTW I think in the 13 month's of dd's life, she only had about 100ml ish of the stuff. Don't think that is enough to cause bladder problems or cancer :)

Gosh that's scary isn't it!
It's interesting how much is now banned or deemed unsafe now due the benefit of hindsight.
I was listening on the radio to a medical show and a man rang up to ask the Dr how to alleviate symptoms he was having as a result of having Pink Disease which was caused by mercury poisoning as a child. He ended up with mercury poisoning due to it being an ingredient in a teething relief product his mother used on him!

I think a lot of people (myself included) have a tendancy to be too trusting, to assume everything that's sold must be safe or else it wouldn't be allowed. But the truth is, money is the driving force behind everything, not the health and safety of the consumer!

I personally wouldn't hit the panic button. Life is a minefield - I'm more worried about the bloke that tried to kill me and my family on the highway this morning because he wanted to be in front - anyway, that's my perspective on it.
If I freaked out about everything I heard like this I'd shut the doors, curtains and put myself and my baby in a Tupperware container.
