And I am not being sexist!! I am writing an article about great things guys can say/do, so I want to include some things definitely not to say and do based on member experiences. So has your partner done or said anything that annoyed or upset you in labour? Please share :)
Lol kell.. good question.. It was annoying at the time but I just laugh now. When I was having all my internals during labour the midwifes asked dp how he was doing ( he had the perfect view of everything happening mind you) and his response was "its like watching my favourite pub burn down".. didnt make me feel to good at the time.. i can laugh now.
Mine took photos. I have these hideous photos of me in labour! (although sometimes I must admit I like to look at them as part of processing the birth experience).
One good thing....he held my sick bag while I threw up into it. Must be love.
During the first, DH kept saying "breathe" through the contractions. I was too damn tired to comment but I really wanted to say "no, thought I'd stop for a while and see how it goes". He has been warned that if he does it again during the birth of this one (currently 8 days overdue), there will be major violence and no possibility of a third child!!
mine slept almost the whole time i was in labour, the midwives even got him a matress, blanket and pillow :s
eta - didnt help that he snored the whole time too, thankgod i had my mum there!
My DH didn't say anything annoying to me during labour, but a friends DH said to her when she was having a really tough time during her labour:
"Women do this everyday it can't be that hard, imagine what the poor women go through when giving birth in africa, consider yourself lucky your in hospital".
Grrr... Needless to say it didn't go down well and he was very sorry for saying it!
LOL good to see mine isn't the only innappropriate comment maker!! Mine also took photos amber.. not only of me in labour... but... *sighs*... when i was in recovery, still with epidural and pumped full of morphene and he made me do 'that's gold' from the footy show.. he's threatened to send it in.. it's horrible.. OH and another thing LOL.. he took a photo of ava being brought out of my belly.. it's actually a good photo.. but he showed me while i was still getting her taken out and i almost passed out LOL
* wanted me to wait for him to have a shower whilst I was screaming at him to hurry from the car in the driveway
*fell asleep through most of it, only waking to pinch the gas tube off me, sucked it down and proceeded to giggle at me
*forgot to call my father (who knew we went to hospital at 11pm), so by 9am the next day poor dad was petrified something had gone wrong...ds was born at 3am
Im sure there was more but I probably blocked it out. He was very lucky to attend DDs birth 19 months later, it was only because I had a Doula there...
My DH was pretty good... but he knew that I wanted a drug free birth with Harrison but proceded to tell the midwives that if I needed to have gas, that I would need a shot of maxalon first to stop me from vommiting!!! I was so upset for him thinking that I wanted gas that I cried and wouldn't talk to him or let him touch me for about 1/2hr.
My dh has a very weak stomach. He vomited in a sink, while holding our newly born ds, when the midwife pulled the placenta out.... other than that he was actually pretty good...

When I was in labour with DS I swore, can't remember what I said but oohh f#@k this hurts or something similar. DH said to me "don't swear, it's not ladylike". I had a few choice words in my response!
In fairness, my DF was good support (although anxious), but he did like to tell me how long until my next contraction was due to start, which I had to put a stop to. I didn't need to be told when they'd begin, I was more interested in when they'd finish.
ummm... my XH saying "she'll have a c/s tomorrow thanks" without asking me first..... when he d@mn well KNEW I wanted a VBAC...thanks...

Everything my DH said & did was annoying! All 3 times!!
DD1, slept for a few hours. He tried rubbing my back, putting his hands on my face coz mum was busy - but his were warm, hers were nice & cold.
He ended up standing at the end of the bed watching coz he felt useless. Mum & MIL got me through it. He did try so hard. He's a pack a day smoker & only had about 2 in the 16 hours we were at the hossy.
With DD2 I nearly bit his thumb off. He saw me going for it just in time! He wasn't too bad this time. Held the shower & moved it from front to back during contractions.
With DS he only got there an hour & a half before he was born. He did have to drive 2 hours to get there. He was going to go to work when I told him my waters broke! I set him straight & told him to meet us at the hossy!!
Then he nearly passed out! WTF?? It wasn't even gory yet & he'd already seen 2 births! Must've been as nervous as me about finally getting his boy...
When I was in transition, DH freaked out and asked if I wanted drugs. My SIL who is a MW was there and said, 'shhhh! It's too late now!!!' LOL. So after that he just crumbled and kept saying, 'I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.' Ha ha. Poor boy, it's like transition was harder for him than it was for me ;)

DH didn't say annoying things as such, but with Olivia's birth he kept drinking coffee then breathing coffee breath on me.......it sent me mental. I nearly punched him when he was trying to stoke my forehead.
With Charlie's birth, early on, he just reclined back and was reading a book. Annoyed the HELL out of me, so I spilt a cup of water on his book when he nipped to the loo, accidentially of course! LOL!
With Lexie's birth he had his sunnies still on his head & for some reason this ****e me off totally....I can remember screaming like a banshee at him "Take your @#$%^&* sunnies off" !??
I have just realised that all these things make me sound SO irrational......
