Need a good pregnancy chiro or physio in VIC

Hi all - am looking for recommendations of a good chiro and/ore physio in VIC that specialises in pregnancy related conditions.

I have pelvic instability (SPD) and can barely walk, can't work, can't sleep, and am in general agony. Saw a physio a few times this week, she had me in tears it was so friggin painful - and now I am taped, strappe dinto a belt and using crutches.

I've been searchign around and some sufferers claim chiro did wonders - can anyone recommend one? I'm in the South East suburbs, near Frankston. Can't travel too far either due to this pain!!

I had SPD also and I went to Fitwise physio in Albert st East melbourne, they were fantastic and only have woman patients and mainly pregnancy related probs.

may be to far for you .

I know someone in Frankston. But he is a massage therapist. He has helped me, mine is no way as severe as your sounds, but if he can't help you he will know who can.

Caz, if no-one comes up with anything close to you then I'd suggest giving Fitwise a call anyway and explaining that it's too far for you to travel but do their physios know of anyone similar in your area. Worth a try because I know how agonising it is.

Thanks girls. Is your guy an osteo aswell or just massage? There are so many choices and I have no idea!! I've always enjoyed a good massage but never had to do more...

I know a great one that has a clinic in both Moorabbin and rosebud. my sister has gone to him for both her pregnancies (the first she got to a stage she couldnt move either) and i am booking ing for next week (my first appointment since getting pregnant) i have however seen him after i had a car accident a few years back.

Caz - Mitcham Private Hospital - try Kat Leong, great physio. In Belgrave, Belgrave chiropractic are good, they have myopathy, chiro & massage with a pregnancy and pediatric specialist.

i am a bit clueless....what is the difference between a chiro and an osteo??

Hi Caz,
its a good question because so many people havent heard of an Osteo.

A Chiro focus is on the skeleton where as an Osteo focuses on the muscles, skeleton and nervous system this means they look at both the symptoms and cause, so its more of a full body care.

If you want to jump on the website they have covered just about everything from what the do, to consultation fees and even how to get a rebate through medicare.

My sister also said to mention that she didnt have to see him through the whole pregnancy, as they worked out a fitness etc routine and now she just goes to se the massage lady once a fortnight :D (i think she might keep this up after the baby too haha)

Sorry to hijack but just to answer feeb's question and incase it's useful for others. The pain got substantially better after about 6-8 months with clinical pilates. But I've still had residual pain/niggles since then and still don't feel back to normal but I was slack and didn't go for about a year (long story).

Because I'm still niggly and my pelvis still feels unstable, the thought of another baby scares the hell out of me so I decided I'd better start going again to get rid of the last bit of pain.

The physio said that the best way to prepare yourself for another baby is to do the clinical pilates before you're pregnant - so develop your strength so that you've got the best chance possible of managing the pain in the pregnancy.

I'm actually not sure the pilates is doing much good this time - my pain is kind of underneath and to the side - sort of in the groin though I do get hip pain too in bed. What DOES seem to be helping (much to my surprise) is pelvic floor exercises that I'm doing at home plus I should be doing more icing.

The physio recommended sleeping with a pillow between the knees for the hip pain and that worked a treat last night. Maybe give that a go.

Never used the brace/belt thing - I bought one but it didn't seem to do anything.

Turning over is hell so will try pillow between legs, brace worked well when i was preg couldnt work without it on.

2nd preg freaks me out also pain wise of mobilising and sitting and lyeing.
