A stranger in the food court once told me that I should stop breastfeeding or my daughter will turn into a lesbian!!! :o:o:o She was getting to big and I was encouraging her to look at my breasts sexually.
I laughed in her face and told her that it was completely fine if my daughter was a lesbian but it would have nothing to do with the fact I breastfed her!!

I was also told by my mother and (believe it or not!) my GP I had to stop BFing DS1 because I would starve DS2....is it any wonder women get so confused!

when DS was 6 months old I was told by a GP "look at him, he definitely doesn't NEED it!" (she wanted me to go on the pill, that was her response to my "won''t my milk dry up?")
I have had a couple but they really pale in comparison:
1 - (when telling my SIL I had another bout of mastitis) "oohh mastitis - its time to wean.
2 - Mother - You were 1.5years when you stayed at your nans, don't you think DD would like to start sleeping over at nanny's place?
3 - WOW you're STILL BF at XXX months? time to wean especially if you're expecting another baby, what will happen if she isn't weaned by then? *insert deeply concerned face*

nope - a friend of mine has already been told that she's sexually assaulting her little boy (18 months) by "insisting" that he continue bf, and that he's probably already got an oedipus complex, and she clearly wants him to end up either killing her DH, desiring her and not being able to have a normal relationship, and either "turning gay" or being a mummy's boy still at home at 40 ... glad to say, her response was to burst out laughing, and tell the offender where to stick their "poppycoccked psycho-BS-babble".:
but how could I forget another one I heard: I should stop bf because it wasn't fair on DH, because (1) I was "making" DS love me more than he would love DH, and (2) I was putting DH's need (for my boobies) below my DS's, which is really unloving, considering I'd chosen DH, whereas DS was just "the one who popped out" ...

When the twins were 3 months and I mentioned to a neighbour they were breastfeeding she had a look of shock on her face and said "oh you've done so well, it won't matter than you have to stop soon". Errm....why exactly? Something to do with there being two of them I think.
I got told that there was no way I could have enough milk for DD in my 'tiny little titties' :o

When my DD was around 18 months my cousin told me I'd have to stop soon because it was bordering on pedophilic (how do people think it is remotely okay to make such offensive comments?!!)... lock me up coz we are still going a year later...
an imbecilic 40-something year old family member of hers ... not sure if she had any kids, but I think she's involved in healthcare or teaching, or something involving young kids. it's a worry, isn't it!:

I don't think I've had any of these comments, buy then DD was the only one that I successfully breastfed and that was only for a small amount of times up to 8wks when I made the decision to stop so that I could concentrate on my health.
What I did get asked all the time though was why I wasn't BFing DS and then had to explain all the reasons why (he couldn't latch on, I got mastitis which dried my supply up etc) just to make them shut up.

Sooo many people seem to think teeth = have to wean. DD got her first teeth around 5 months and a friend asked how we're going feeding with the teeth. I said fine, just as well as with DS who had at least 18 teeth when he weaned.

You know while it is funny to read some of these, when you really think about it, it's so sad people really believe such crap. Seriously, pedophiles, molestation, depriving our hubbies of 'their' booby pleasure...it's really really sad.
Here we are as mothers trying our darndest to do what we think is best for our babies while our loved ones and friends think these terrible things about us :(
My DS did start biting me when he got teeth - on my leg when I didn't get booby out quick enough!!
I haven't had any negative comments yet, but I have heard the "they're too old for boob when they start asking for it" line.
ive had the teeth= stopping as well but so far no sign of teeth lol shes 8 months old today but she never bites me anyway so i dont know how ppl think that DS didnt start biting me (not BFed) till about 10 months and that was on my knee lol

I don't get these - I mustn't get out enough. Last time I went out DS was fussing and I was a bit reluctant (there were 5 odd people in the room ranging from 20-65yo and he's a big wriggly baby) and you know what response I got? "Get some tit into him!" LOL
Baby is doing a good enough job of avoiding boobies during the day by himself. He's discovered his big sisters have chocolate milk drinks a lot and he really really really likes them (he wouldn't know this if they didn't keep leaving half empty cups within his reach). So yeah, chocolate milk is better than boobies during the day at least.

I've also heard the teeth thing. Yeh they get in the way sometimes but I think people just look for an excuse sometimes to get out of it..I wonder if it is due to comments such as these that they think they have to give it up...?....which is also sad. :(
I personally got alot of 'why don't you switch him to formula' when I found out my son is allergic to alot of foods; because 'it's alot less hassle, I can eat what I like, and he'll probably sleep better'....uh yeh sure because you know formula so well....did you know that they are (mostly)based on dairy or soy.....which i just told you he is allergic to!!
I also get from my MIL that I do you think it's time he has a bottle? He might not be getting enough and his hungry (in response to waking frequently for feeds at night, and co-sleeping).
I've also heard from her that 'your milk isn't as good after the first one'.

'You can afford formula, why are you breastfeeding? Only poor people do that, formula's healthier for them.' (from a child-free twerp who I truly hope never sees fit to help any unsuspecting female create a child.)
I was told "you're vegetarian, your milk will be too weak for her" - obviously seeing both girls we fed over 14m and are clearly starving, Not! WTF has eating meat or not got to do with making milk :dunno:
I have not read all the responses...sorry.
But did want to share, I never BF DS1 past 4weeks....so was very happy to go so well with DS2 (18months almost self weaned). From about 4months he started waking every 2hrs, sometimes more often exhausting me. My Mum's comment on the phone one day "don't you wish you hadn't BF now"? errrrrrrrrrr, ummmmmmm "don't you wish you thought before you spoke"?? :)
