Whats the max you'd spend on a handbag?

I'm just wondering what the most you have or would spend on a handbag?? I'm trying to justify a bag i really really want! A friend of mine is big on handbags and has a 1k+ gucci bag. Thats a bit much for me because theres other fashion items i'd get more use out of for that money (ie, i'm big in to jeans and dresses). But I do love vintage bags, and at the moment i'm thinking i could justify say $300 for this bag, considering i would keep it a life time and after restoring it will use it as my every day handbag. :redface:

So what do you think?

If it was a good quality classic handbag that I knew I would get tonnes of use out of I would say $300 is more than reasonable. I would probably spend up to $500. In my current situation I could not justify $1k for a handbag though, unless it was a special occasion present (like milestone b'day or something).

i have a $3000.00 louis vuitton bag that i bought myself in paris. but do you think i ever use it now??? nope. baby bags for me. at the moment, i'd spend about $100, but i bug big handbags that can be used for nappy bags. if you want it, get it.

i could justify $300 if i absolutely adored it and knew i would use it all the time. i wouldn't go above that though.

I'm cheap compared to you two :P $70 is around about what I'd spend on a handbag :) My current handbag is a Guess one that was about $200 I think but I got it from Myer when they had a sale plus used a heap of vouchers I had saved up so I only spent $35 of my own money on it. For a designer expensive handbag, I'd probably get one from ebay.

yes it is a classic designer bag, probably worth much more than $300 but my dh is having heart palpitations about it, he just doesn't get it.

I don't spend money on anything and the last handbag I bought was a stretch at $25....

$300 isn't a lot for a classic bag that you will get a lot of use out of.

ive paid alot more than that for a chanel bucket handbag which wasnt even vintage lol

The most I have spent is $350 on a Kenneth Cole handbag when on holiday in Dubai a couple of years ago - I saw it in the shop, walked past it a couple of times and then just had to have it. :redface: I love it tho and am so pleased with my purchase. I would spend up to $500 unless of course I had a HUGE disposable income then I suppose money is no limit.:lol:

But in answer to your question, I think that amount sounds reasonable.

as to how much i would spend on a handbag...how long is a piece of string LOL! i have been known to spend *amounts* of money on items that i love. if you have the cash, or at least if it's not a pinch, then i'd say go for it. especially if it is the real deal!

my DH and I spend $ on good basics as we were in the fortunate position to do so (not so much now that i have no paid employment :crying:) and we both agree that those we have forked out extra for have lasted the distance a whole lot better. so yeah, sure i have paid loads of money on gucci or prada shoes...but they have lasted the distance, i wear them all the time and they still look great! would i buy gucci sunnies? prolly not, as they are known for their leather and i know the quality of the shoes are good.

tell your DH that it is an 'investment for future savings' LOL! :ROFL:

I could justify spending $300, but like you said, I couldnt justify spending any more than that! I have so many fakes from Malaysia & a couple in particular I get many comments on.

If I loved it, and I knew it wouldn't be putting my family out in anyway, I would spend $300 on a bag for sure!

If you'd asked me a few years ago, I would have said no way but I reckon I've bought a lot of handbags under $100 that have broken so these days I pay a bit more - generally between $2-300 and generally from Witchery. I'm a bit more blase about it these days because I only spend that much on handbags that will last a long time and that I will use a lot. I wouldn't spend that much on an 'occasion' bag eg. for a wedding that I'm only likely to use a few times.

Holy moley ;) Here I was thinking my $100 baby bag was 'spensive. That's the most I've ever spent on a bag.

However, bags just aren't my thing. I once spent nearly $600 on a vintage magician's box that i knew I was never going to actually use (the thought of taking it to a kid's party just scared me too much, and it was too small for stage) cause that is my thing. And I bought it just to look at! If you love it and want it and know you will get use (or viewing pleasure) out of it, go for it. I say it's a good investment.

I probably wouldn't spend more than ~$70 on a handbag but I did spend close to $300 on my nappy bag which I now use as my handbag!

If you think you're going to get alot of use out if it I say go for it! If it's still going in 5 years time it's basically paid for itself. And lets face it, these days you get what you pay for, so if it's good quality it should last the distance.

I have found the best shop that sells leather vintage style oversized handbags (come nappy bags ;)) around that price mark. When I get further along I'm going to buy one as a baby present to me! hehe. You can't go wrong, if you love it you'll get loads of use out of it!
