New DUO laundry powder strength ... Does it NOT seem that concentrate to you ?

Last week i used for the first time the new 500gr box of DUO top load laundry powder that has replaced the 1kg box ... On the new box it says it gives the same amount of wash loads as the old 1kg box ... BUT the new powder doesn't appear to have the same suds (or doesn't appear to be that concentrated) so i added a bit more than recommended on the pkt so therefore went through it quicker :doh:

Does anyone else think the same ???

No suds whatsoever. The new concentrates sucks. I have to use 2 scoops to get some suds.

Yep, I find it's the same for many 'concentrates' :( I'd stick to the usual strength but reinforce it yourself with bicarb and vinegar.

I hate it too!! I used to use half a scoop of the old stuff and need to use a full scoop of the new 'double strength' stuff.....we are being ripped off!

There's a place in Brunswick Melbourne that sells bulk goods to restuarants (and the public) called Bass Foods. They have a good website. We go there about 3 times a year for our OMO amongst other things. Been doing it for about 5 years now. Saved a small fortune. Very happy with the OMO btw.

How much bicarb and vinegar do you add to the 20kgs? Do you mix it as you need it or mix the whole 20kgs at once??

I just add them as i do each wash... I don't need to add them to my DH's business shirts load because they don't get very dirty... mainly add it to the kids loads that are heavily soiled.

Also the OMO used to come in big buckets ... I store the powder in that so it's moisture proof... important when you need to store it for several months. I make the transfer as soon as I open the bag then chuck it out.

ETA: make sure you buy homebrand vinegar to keep down costs.

How much bicarb and vinegar is added per scoop of Omo?

Is that powder ok to use in front loaders?

I put about 2 tablespoon of vinegar in the softener dispenser part of my top loading machine then add about 1 level tablespoon (sometimes a bit less) of bicarb as the machine is filling up (soon after I add the OMO). You can also buy bicarb soda in bulk quantities which keeps costs down.

This OMO product wouldn't be suitable for toploaders I don't think although I'm not 100% certain. I know that there is a thread about how the vinegar part is more important for front loaders to reduce the smell that is common with that type of machine.

Turkish Delight: I meant to ask you: can you read the writing on that bag of OMO??? Does it say anything I don't already know? LOL

All it says is that the detergent is for handwashing and the OMO slogan in Turkey which is "getting dirty is beautiful"

Tinks - ALL washing machines in Turkey is the front loader type. So, it may be ok to use.

Ta TD :) Yep, and you could be right about it being ok for front loaders because it doesn't generate that many suds compared to some powders... but this isn't a bad thing... the cleaning results are excellent. Is the suds thing the main issue with front loaders? I assume they are like a dishwasher and need to have good cleaning with low suds?

Yep Baths, i think it is a suds issue.

How much do you pay for 20kg bag? Just that i've seen it at a Turkish delicatessen in Dandenong which stock it, but am unsure of the price.

The price can really vary... but usually works out to be between $2.40 and $2.70 per kilo. I don't think it's ever got as high as $3.00 per kilo. I haven't got a calculator handy but obviously $2.40 x 20 and you will get the price. My haphazard mental arithmatic says about $48 per bag but I also recall paying less than that so i could be wrong...

That's fantastic value for money.

I usually stock up on non-perishable items such as laundry powder, diswashing detergent when they are on special at the supermarkets. Even then, the new 500gm Fab or Duo is around $1.99 per 500gm box.

I'm checking the 20kg Omo out this weekend.

Mitre 10 Hardware and KMart also occasionally stock OMO, Drive etc in large 12/15 kg boxes. Not quite as cheap as Bass but still way under what you pay for those tiny little 1 / 2 kilo boxes. We'd go through two of those boxes a week! I don't know why families buy them... so expensive... maybe ok if you were a single person or a pensioner who doesn't go through much I guess.
