Desperately need help...can a 7 year old get af??

Please please help...I was just getting the washing out of my bathroom & DD1's undies have brown on them, looks like blood....it doesn't look like she didn't wipe...I picked them up praying they were mine, but they aren't. They are hers.
I smelt it & it doesn't smell like poo iykwim (I know, gross, but I need to know)
I think I'm gonna cry. Please tell me this is not possible.
I tried ringing a friend to come look & reassure me, but she's not home.
I'm freaking out. This is not possible. Please... I think I'm gonna cry...

I have heard of kids getting af young but I didn't that young! hopefully it's not- but i'm also hoping the bleeding is not from something worse (don't really want to say what else it could be). i think you probably need to ask your daughter. :hug: hope everything goes ok.

ok, I just read that it has something to do with weight & that over weight kids can get af early, but DD is not over weight. She's only about 25 kilo's.

I will be asking when she gets home, but thats hours away!

i have heard of 8 year olds starting AF, so 7 is only one year younger.

She doesn't have other signs...no breast buds or anything...

Maybe you could pick her up from school early?? cos if it is Af it wouldn't be nice for her to be at school with it. Um maybe you can pick her up at lunch time??

AF that young is possible - not great for you - but it usually doesn't start regularly

maybe ask her if she's been ok to check it's not a sign of a UTI - i know i've had a few where i haven't been in too much pain, but have had some urethral bleeding...

This lady I knew a few years back was tellng me how her DD who back then was around 9yrs possibly even 8 had started getting AF, she had her at the DR's and they had mentioned to her that with all the hormones they are using to feed chickens to make them grow faster, that it goes through our kids, such as making them develop earlier.. Not sure on how true it is but I thought maybe worth a mention.
I too worry about this with my DD's, so I understand how concerned and worried you are. I really hope it was nothing. hugs

If they get a hold of an adult's pill and eat a few they can get AF. Are you on the pill? Are they all there?

hopefully you can get a hold of your friend just so you can put your mind at ease at least.

Hmmm thats a tough one hun :hug: It does sound odd at seven, but I thought I'd let you know one of my bests friends all through primary school got her period when she was seven too. After trips to the doc and a few tests they discivered she has a rare thing which causes the body to mature early, sorry I dont remember what it's called. But from then on she had to have medication until she reached an age that puberty could start.. by the time she was eleven the meds stopped working and her period came back. Sorry that's not much help! As I said it's not common so dont worry it prob isn't even it.
I think you should try talk to her about it. Tell her it's a perfectly normal thing to happen but it is really early and you being mum need to know for sure what is going on etc..

Just wanted to send hugs :hug: I know it can be young now but I haven't heard of anyone that young with out the other signs that you mentioned. Maybe try and pick her up early and see how things go....I'll be thinking of you!

I'm not on the pill. I use depo. Noone in our families, mine or ILs has gotten af earlier than 11.

Ok, I'm taking a deep breath & telling myself that its ok. Until she gets home I will survive.
I put the undies in the wash. Maybe that'll tell me something...probably not.

If it is blood of some sort, I will be booking her into the doctor, as it needs to be checked out by a paed if thats what is going on at such a young age.

Just wanted to let you know that apparently it's quite common to have a small bleed some years before AF gets started for real. This is what happened to me - from memory I was 9 or 10 when I had a small amount (like less than a teaspoon) of brownish blood, and then got AF for real around 12 or 13. I haven't been able to find anything on the web to back this up, but I'm sure either I read it in a book or a Dr told me at the time :)

I would take her to the Dr. Not to startle you but I would be more concerned that it was something else. The period would be the least of my concerns. As I said not to startle you but I would be going to the Dr ASAP. I would have also kept the nickers unwashed... but I'm also a bit paranoid.

What sort of activities has she been doing lately? Some girls get a small bleed when they tear their hymen - sports, horseriding etc and she just may have hurt herself there, maybe even a scratch?
