17mth old grey skin and poo's

Ok so this might seem a little strange but its been bugging me for a few days now. I've noticed that DS's skin seems to be really grey in colour, he's poo's are also very grey.

We havent changed his diet recently, not using any different products etc. I have noticed the grey tinge in his skin for about 2 weeks but its just recently become much more noticeable. His poo's have been getting greyer over that time.

Has anyone had this or got any suggestions? I will ring my Dr tomorrow but I know its normally a 3 day or more wait. Even then, unless his limbs are falling off I doubt she would pay much attention.

grey isn't good, it can be a symptom of poor circulation. I'd be calling the doc very early and asking to see someone. Or calling nurse on-call now.

I would ring 13Health.
Expecially since he was a premmie baby, I'd errr on the side of caution, getting him checked out asap

thanks ladies, he seems to be ok with everything else. he is passing bowel movements twice a day, lots of wet nappies, good energy when he is awak etc though if anything is sleeping more. and now I feel even worse in that I totally didnt think to consider that when he was 4 months old we found out his left kidney doesnt fully function (but only by 5%):wall: I have no idea why it didnt come to mind. it was such a gradual change, but its noticeable now.

13health just said to see the Dr in the morning. Will call his paed instead I think, I googled, shouldnt have done that.:crying:

i was just about to come and write DONT GOOGLE it....google is never your friend in these situations....im sure he will be fine, hope your doc will see him in the morning...even if you have to ham it up a bit to get seen right away! hugs

Did you get on to the dr or paed for an appt?

just got back from seeing our GP and feeling like the worse mother :( DS has an ear infection, Dr suspects also anemia, has suggested DP and I go to parenting classes to learn proper nutrition & behaviours for toddlers and to top it off Dr think he should see a speech therapist because he's not talking. I'm a bit shell shocked and rather teary.
He had no symptoms of an ear infection, he is cutting teeth 9-12 so of course he is going to be moody, but he's such a happy kid, we spent all morning laughing and playing. He is still eating, I'm very particular about his diet, he very rarely gets any processed foods, everything he eats I make from scratch. Dr started lecturing me on how many fruit and veg he needs a day, before I cut her off. It's all he really gets to eat, he loves fruit and gets it several times a day, its what he snacks on, he gets veggies for lunch and dinner. he doesnt get takeaways, chips, lollies nothing like that. I know how to feed my child, I'm forever going through annabel karmels books to get new receipes for him to try. I stay at home purely so I can be his primary carer and she basically said I was failing at that.

blaaah so upset, we're not bogan parents, we love our son, we're great parents and for her to imply that he was just short of neglated is devastating. :( just want DP home, I so need a hug.

Oh you poor thing - no offense but your GP sounds like a bit of a hard head!!!

You sound like you are doing a great job - these kidlets of ours don't come with instruction manuals, my DD is 22mths and has horrid poos which I have only just gotten checked out. Turns out I have been giving her twice the recommended amount of dairy which is probably the cause! But the nutritionist did not say anything about my parenting, she just gave me the info I need to fix it.

OMG! I don't think you need to go to parenting classes, I think you need to get a new doctor!!! what a rude cow! No mother would have picked up on an ear infection if there were no signs of it! far out, I'm completely blown away by her comments! Is there any way you can put in a complaint? :hug: I'm sure your doing a fantastic job without bloomin classes!

pffft, if you were that bad a parent you wouldn't have noticed anything wrong and wouldn't have taken him to the docs.
The diet you're feeding him is brillo, far better than what I fed mine. :hug: glad it's not more serious hun.

Dd2 had a serious ear infection but her molars coming out hid the symptoms. It was two weeks before I took her to our dr as she wasn't sleeping.

Your Ds has a great diet! All his nutrients are probably being used up with all those teeth coming through. Dd2 got so run down last time she had a heap come through, it's so hard on their little bodies.

I agree it's time for a new dr, one who supports you rather than making you feel bad.

Awwww hunni, You are NOT a bad parent! You did exactly the right thing by taking him to the doctors and you shouldn't of been spoken to like that, I would seek a 2nd opinion!

the more I think of what she actually said, she didnt answer any of the questions I asked, just told me I was doing everything wrong. DP isnt convinced that DS is actually THAT grey in colour to warrant a seeing a different Dr,but I think it does. We live in a regional town so there isnt like we have alot of options and the private paed that we saw cause DS needed a prem consult isnt taking any new appt's til the new year.

Ive called 5 Dr's surgery in the region but all have a waiting list for new patients, and I will go see the CHN tomorrow to get her opinion. I feel like I'm really going to have to battle to get someone to actually take me seriously. in the meantime I will up the diet to include more booster foods to see if his energy levels increase. He is cutting molers to, so like you Black_Rose, its so hard to know what is teething and what is more then that. He started anti b's today (the chemist had to get it in special for him) so will see how he responds to that.

in the meantime, if anyone has any other suggestions on things I could try that would be great :)

i think your doctor sounds like an idiot....who says that to a mother that is clearly worried about her child!

sounds like he has a great diet and that your doing a great job, hope you can get in to see someone else! hugs
