What have your children taught you?

I just had a lovely moment with DD where she taught me a valuable lesson - a child's imagination is precious and should be nurtured. As adults we are too quick to try and pull ourselves back to the harshness of reality and I need to remember that she is only this gorgeous age once...

We had just arrived home from the shops and DD was due for a sleep, getting tired and grumpy. She found her Miffy toy and had a receipt and was trying to wrap it around Miffy. Obviously, it kept falling off and DD, being tired, was getting frustrated with it.

She cried out to me "Mummy, it's not working!" and I glanced at her and said "It's going to keep falling off, because it's just a piece of paper!"

She looked up at me with her big blue eyes and responded "No mummy, to me it's a cape."

So precious. I closed my mouth (where's my baby gone?), shook myself and said "Of course it is, silly mummy, let's get some sticky tape so we can attach Miffy's cape."

She is now snuggled up in bed, cuddled up to Miffy, who is wearing a cape.

Lesson learned mummy!

Currently with day I am having my kids have taught me I can scream really loud all day and not loose voice LOL

Expect the unexpected. Imagination was something I longed for and now I have a child with autism instead. My child has taught me that parenting isn't my journey, it's about sharing somebody elses.

Well....I try to :lol:

And it's doing wonders for my relationship with my beautiful husband :)

They have taught me soo much... i think right now, with a screaming toddler and a screaming baby i am learning to have patience... a semi trailer load of patience!

Patience. I am not the most patient person in the world. Actually, I have very little patience for most people. However it would seem that the powers that be anticipated this. So rather than let me waste the valuable patience that I have on unimportant things / people, it has made me save them all up for my DS and his brother to come. I am so much more patient with Mitchell than I am with anyone.

Love - They taught me to love like no one else could, I could never imagine to love a person the way that I do my kids, from the first time I knew they were inside me... It's that kinda love that will over power any other feeling - it's the most amazing feeling in this world.

My son has taught me that a mother's role might be to nurture but it is important to be nurtured too.

Lately I've been a bit emotional and I'll often say things like "I'm losing it." Or "I feel so angry" as I often do as I always express my emotion openly. Well lately every time I say that lately DS will come running and wrap his arms around me and bury his head into my chest and I melt. And then he'll say "Is that better? Is it going away now." And it works every time. Sometimes I have to fight back the tears. He tells me he has magic cuddles. I know they say a mother's kiss heals all... but so does a child's love...

How to enjoy the simple pleasures of a lie in and quiet time.

That apparently the "fingers on lips" style of shushing is the funniest thing in the world :rofl:

OP , arnt they precious! sounds like something my DD1 would say.

i was getting frustrated with her just as she was going to bed as she was being silly (tired) and i snapped at her (im tired too) and her response was ''we have had a lovely day mummy, dont ruin it by being cross'' very quickly put in my place :redface:

Mine have taught me that I'm a yeller :(

I'm also really good at doing the puzzles they pull out and don't put back. But they have taught me how to have fun again and that it's important to laugh every day.

that a simple bedtime story and goodnight kiss is the best bandaid for a bad day.
