Where do you leave OH's dinner if they're not home?

So sick of continually having this argument with DF.. If he's not home for dinner he asks me to leave it in the microwave (or oven if that's what I've cooked dinner in). Fair enough, I am happy to do that, BUT only for an hour or two..I am not leaving cooked food out of the fridge for hours on end! I think I did it once as I completely forgot i'd put his plate in the microwave, and discovered it at some point the next day when I went to use it. Eww..
I also don't want to give him food poisoning because it hasn't been stored correctly!
But he is always having a whine about having to reheat meals if they've been put in the fridge and tonight he'd like oh wow she finally gets it! Because I'd left it in the oven..arrghh!! It is soo frustrating!

Usually I'll leave it out until it fully cools down, then I'll wrap it and put it in the fridge.

I think the easy way to solve this dispute is to get him to cook his own meals. Saves reheating!

That's why we also put leftovers into the fridge at the same time as serving it up to everyone.

Out on the counter, covered untill cold then in the fridge.

In the fridge, unless I know he is only 10 minutes away. Most of the time if DH knows he is going to be late, I won't cook for him (he often tells me not to worry about him), just knock up something quick for me and the girls.

and id tell him that his options are: properly stored in the fridge to avoid food poisoning or he can cook himself something!

In the microwave, BUT he's always home to eat it within an hour and I've told him numerous times it's not safe to store food that way, he still wants it in there so I figure it's his problem if he gets sick.

in the fridge. like many others i cool it on the bench first then into the fridge. if he's not likely to eat it that night, it goes in a container for him to take for lunch the next day

It would only take one bout of food poisoning for him to be happy with the fridge... just sayin'!

I used to work in a commercial kitchen and this is what I learned:
food can be left out (at room temp) for 4 hours safely. But this is the TOTAL, so if you had meat that was out for an hour, then you cooked it, it could only sit out for another 3 hours.
you should put things in the fridge as soon as they are cool enough that they won't bring the temperature of the fridge up (ie so not when they are boiling hot, but no need to wait til they are cold either).
cling wrap is pretty toxic and I wouldn't want to eat food that had been touching it when it was hot
