Yup we will all age and out skin will change and become older ,with lines and wrinkles etc
I don't spend lots of money on skin care creams and lotions . As I don't notice a difference .
I DO notice that using products like natural honey , lemons , bicarb , rosehip oil , I notice that my skin looks and feels amazing with them . I do notice that I look more refreshed , my skin is clear , brighter , no dark circles , no dryness , things like that .
Dunno :/
Hmmm - so you're not willing to spend money but you do believe that putting 'stuff' on your skin will make a difference?
Surely well-researched and elegantly packaged 'stuff' will make more of a difference than your crude experimental substances??
???
No , I would spend money if I found something that made my skin feel and look good ..
But I don't believe that expensive , fancy products all work and are miracle cures for the skin , so that's why I don't buy them .
I tried the products I mentioned , honey , lemons , bicarb and I found they really made my skin look and feel different , I noticed a difference ..
I have heard that rosehip oil was good for the skin , so I tried it after having DD2 and my skin was dry , dull , dark circles and just not looking good , and wow I really noticed the difference after using it , so I will stick will that ..
But if I found some expensive product that would make me youthful forever and wrinkle free , yeah I would use it :)
Depends on the product.
Botox is pretty effective.
I think a good hat and sunscreen is a good investment.
Yep sun protection is worth it. If you drive much you should put it on the backs of your hands too. I keep a tube in my handbag and do the backs of my hands whenever I drive.
Sunglasses too ;)
I don't think there is much difference between the cheap and expensive moisturiser but without a moisturiser my skin is flaky and gross.
Ive got pretty good skin and only use oil of olay 30+ spf when i remember.
I think thats the reason why my skin is still good coz it hasnt gotten use to any moisturisers lol
Although i am getting wrinkles but meh... Got so much other stuff to worry about.
What about all the chemicals in skin products and sunscreen? Surely it can't be good for you. ?
Melanomas aren't very good for you either.
The ill effects of melanomas are widely acknowledged and well documented. The ill-effects of sunscreen are subject to debate.
Yeah, I was going to say sunscreen & hat, too. You can get natural sunscreens, non-nano zinc oxide and no preservatives etc.
I was looking into sunscreens recently and found this article saying that there hasn't actually been a proven reduction in melanoma rates over the past 30 odd years. Food for thought. It was an American article though.

A bit off topic for this thread I guess. But I am going to look into 'healthier' sunscreens for use though.
Unlike most countries Australia has spent a great deal of money on initiatives to raise awareness of melanoma and sun damage. And unlike most countries Australia is experiencing a reduction in melanomas
Melanoma rates for under 40s falling in Queensland, study finds - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Not to mention that sun damage makes you wrinkly.
I think Australia is different in terms of sun damage studies due to that pesky hole in the ozone layer right over us!
I think moisturiser helps but probably more in how my skin feels rather than how it looks. Some eye creams do make a short term difference in terms of puffiness and dark circle under my eyes which make a difference to how I look.
Yeah I thought it might've an overseas thing. Sunscreen is not something I am going to stop using but am interested in healthier products. ( chemical free etc). :-)
MooGoo makes a sunscreen now :)
I completely agree with the opening statement. The cosmetic industry rakes in billions of dollars every year based on nothing other than people wanting to improve their appearance to meet an ideal that is not realistic. If everyone needs to paint and 'improve' themselves to feel socially acceptable then there is something wrong with the aesthetic expectation of our culture.
Personally I have never used a skincare product besides occasional sunscreen to prevent the immediate burn rather than any fear of future wrinkles and the odd bit of pimple cream, since even up here on my high horse the message is still pretty clear that zits should not be tolerated.
I am ageing as per natural course. Yesterday my DD1 smiled and patted my hair and talked about my sparkles, which after some thought I concluded were my grey hairs shining in the light lol. I absolutely refuse to teach my children that people should be judged on aesthetics and to me having to alter my appearance for public consumption is indicating that who I am naturally is not good enough. I won't do it. In my world inside my own head all people are treated equally regardless of appearance. This is what I try to model to my children and what the cosmetic industry is inherently in conflict with.
Or I am cheap and lazy :)
I agree you cannot stop aging of the skin. However I think certain ingredients and formulations, when at an effective concentration and when used in conjunction with sunscreen and general body and skin health, can help to protect the structure and condition of the skin.
