Public Tubal Reversal??
Hi Everyone,
I know this probably isn't the right place for this thread, but I had to give this spot a go....
I have done months and months, stacks and stacks of research into having a tubal reversal done.
All I can find here in Sydney is that I casn only have it done privately and pay close to $10,000 or travel to Melbourne, wait over a year and have it done in the public system at the Royal Women's Hospital.
Travelling to Melbourne of course is financially a better option for us, but the waiting will kill, plus scare me as I am now 33.
Does anyone out there know if there is a hospital anywhere here in sydney that does this op via the public system.
I would love any help/info I can get at all.

hi framaine. i live in qld and i had my tubes reversed 12mnths ago. i went on the waiting list and i waited a couple of years. anyway to have them reversed at that same hospital i think it cost about $3000
-
Hi, I think that any place you go to have the reversal you will prob have to wait for a while, Im not sure if thats the case if you are going private. I had my op done for free at the Royal Womens in Melbourne, they told me I would have to wait at least 12 months I had the op 9 months after the initial appointment. I know it seems a long time to have to wait but time really does fly !! Tell them you are available to go in if they have a cancelation, who knows you may be lucky.
Speaking from experience, try not to stress and all the best for the future.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you onemore, your words are very encouraging. My first appointment at the Royal Women's is on the first of October. I will be telling them that I am available at all times of course. A little earlier tonight it was confirmed by my gp that i have poly cystic ovary syndrom. He has started me on medication for that already, and the best part is that it helps me lose weight too, biggggg bonus. This will all help me get ready for the op when the time comes...
Tell me more about you, was the op a success??

Hi framaine,
Iv`e just gone 12 months post-op, unfortunately no luck yet but my GP keeps telling me not to worry its early days yet. Healing for me after the op took longer than expected, the wound didn`t heal untill about 7 weeks after the op. I had to fly from Melbourne to Kununurra (which is about 5 hours) a week after the op then a couple of days later my DH`s work had a 4x4 driving trip which I must say was a bit rough, so all this probably didn`t help that much. Then all the stress of trying to get pg only makes things harder.
I can tell you the more you obsess the less likely you are to fall. (It has taken me this long to realise though) The op does play havoc with your body, up untill the last 2 months af has been all over the place.
I am heading back to the Royal Womens on Aug 24 to have the dye put through to make sure all is still in working order, I`m nervous but excited at the same time. At least I will know what is happening in there.
If you want to chat some more send me a PM and I will answer any questions as best I can, nice to have someone to talk to about this..
-
Hi onemore,
Once again thanks for the help. I would love to talk more, but will need you to forgive my ignorance.
To date I haven't sent a PM on this forum and wouldn't have a clue as to what to do...
Help, would love to chat more. I have so much going on in my head. So many questions.
-
Hi framaine,
tried to send you a PM but it said you were unable to recieve them, I havn`t acctually sent one before now either so not sure if I done it correctly.
If there`s anyone out there who can help that would be great.

Hi onemore,
Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I work in the wonderful world of retail as a store manager of a fashion jewellery store. Every Thursday is a huge day for me. I start at 8am and go right through the day till 9pm.
What I would love to know the most is, what happened at your first appoinment at the hospital, what were the questions they asked you, did they do any tests and what were they, and were you told there and then that they could do the op and you were put on the waiting list??
Lots os questions i know, sorry... I can only imagine how it must have been the same for you.
I can't thank you enough for being there.
Take care, Framaine..

Hi framaine,
wow 8am to 9pm I don`t think I could handle that, we own a servo/mechanical store and I work from 8:30-about 5, then get to go home and do all that boring housework and cooking tea, don`t like it very much. Although it is nice not to have anyone to answer to, and I can hop on line whenever I like.
The first appointment was nothing like I expected, I had been warned that you have to see a councelor to make sure you are making the right choice for the right reasons, so was a little nervous. The Dr we saw was wonderful, he asked us some general health questions, age, family history, previous pregnancy`s , why we want to do this etc. If they havn`t already asked you for your sterilization info from the Hospital where you had it done I would look into that as I had to have mine sent over before the first appointment. DH had to have sperm count test which we aranged to have done on the same day and you get the results from that about 2 hours after the test. They will also ask to take some blood from you for various tests.
Then speaking from my experience they should put you on the waiting list right away if all is OK
-
Forgot to mention, there is no councelor!!!
-
Thanks for all of that. Very valuable info indeed.
I don't have the info from when I had the TL done, but I do have an x-ray report that I had done not too long ago stating that there were still 2 clips and where they were. I wonder if that would be enough for them.
Plus would it be worth my DH having his sperm test done here in sydney before we go to the appointment. I wonder if they would take that into account and use it to save time both for them and us.
After you had the op did they put you on any medication to help with ovulating etc..
I am already taking metformin because I am also dealing with PCOS
(Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).
Once again, thanks heaps for the info and just for being there, it really is great having someone to talk to about all this with.

Morning,
x-ray should be fine I think they just like to know how the procedure was done, clips are much better than cut or whatever else they do to sterilize. I thought they would have asked you to provide the details when you rang them, I would take the x-ray with you when you go.
Would prob be easier for you hubby to have the test done closer to home, the only reason I had it done in Melbourne was because here in Tassie we had to go to Hobart which is at the opposite end of the state to where we are. Just give them a call I`m sure that would be fine.
I was not given any medication for ovulation, wish I was though.
Don`t know if I mentioned before but af has only become regular for the last 2 months, hopefuly its a sign of good things to come.
I go for the dye test in 3 weeks (to check the tubes are clear) so if all is ok I will ask them about clomid, I believe thats a pretty good drug.
Must go and do some work, take care and will chat soon.

Hey framaine,
haven`t heard from you in a while, hope all is well.

Hi darl,
How are you, hope you are well. Sorry I haven't been in touch for a while. You know how it is, not enough hours in the day, not enough days in the week... (Remember i work 13 hours on Thursdays)
Plus I haven't been feeling the best the last coule of days. Mood swings are running out of control at the moment. Today i felt really flat, tired all day, everything I did was just one hell of a chore, and all I wanted to do all day was cry. Then to top it all off, i am now feeling really nauseous. YUCK!!!!
On the up side, I had an appointment with my gyno yesterday. He said all is going well, as well as the metformin medication he has now put me on the pill to try to control the hormones. Thank god.....
He said I have a fantastic chance of falling pregnant once i have the op. WOOHOO
While i was there he also did a pap smear and said the next time he has to do another one i should be a new mum, YEY.......
Can i ask you more about your situation, if you don't want to get too personal i understand. But I would love to know things like, how old you are, how long before the reversal did you have the ligation, do you know how long your tubes are, and do they know or have some idea as to why you haven't been able to fall pregnant yet??? If i remember rightly it was about a year ago now that you had the op done....
Anyway, enough from me for now, gonna see if i can try to get rid of this sick feeling.
Have a great weekend darl, hope it's not too cold down there.
Will talk again really soon.
-
Hey you, yea a womens job is never done. Hope you feel better soon it`s a horrible bug going around touch wood I havn`t got it yet.
I don`t mind talking at all I just wish I had have found this site before I had my op. I will be 29 next Saturday I had my tubes tied in 2002 absolutly sure I had made the right choice !! Started having doubts in 2004, took me ages to say something to my hubby and he wasn`t real keen on the idea of more children, I was a mess for about 6 months then we decided we would give it a go. In the begining my hubby said yes only because it was tearing me apart, I had this feeling of something missing and not just a baby, the fact I could no longer have children hit me like a brick and on the other hand I felt I deserved it because that was what I chose. I was on the waiting list for about 9 months, had the op June 28 last year. Iv`e been to the Dr and she tells me not to worry to much yet but being a bit anxious Iv`e booked to have the dye put through my tubes to check they are not blocked so fingers crossed.Any way I hope I havn`t rambled to much, have a good weekend sweet.
Talk soon
-
Hi Darl,
God our situations are so alike. I too, feel the same that you did. All of what you said, is me all over. Including the part about your hubby. My hubby was exactly the same in the beginning. Now he is all for it and is really starting to get into it.
When I had my ligation done about 7 years ago, I was pushed into it by both my now ex-husband and by my family.
I too, like you, felt like part of me is missing, that what makes me a women, my god given right as a female, was taken away.
As my hubby now says, i wasn't born with the clips, so it just isn't natural for them to be there.
I will certainly have my fingers crossed for you in a couple of weeks when you go to have the dye test done. I will be thinking of you and be here for you...
Please don't feel that you ramble about this stuff either darl. (I think I do the same).
I love to find out about as much about all of this as I can. I can't thank you enough for sharing your story with me and many others too.
Sometimes I think that this has consumed my whole life and i can't think of anything else. I have even already bought a baby name book. CRAZY HEY!!!
I can't figure out if it is just wishful thinking, or i have convinced myself it will work. Or maybe it was my hubby and his positive outlook on everything, saying that we both have had kids before with our previous partners so why couldn't we have one together. Plus, i not all that long ago had my taro cards done and they said it was there in the cards. The cards showed a baby, and a girl at that. My life long dream to have a girl. If I was to have a boy i would be over the moon, that goes without saying, but a girl would just top it all off nicely.
Anyway, (Ramble, ramble, ramble). My turn i guess. Hahahaha
Gonna get out of here. Work again tomorrow, but got the day off on Sunday.
Take care darl, talk again real soon for sure.
P.S. By the way, call me Charmaine. "Framaine" comes from both myself and my husband Frank.......
-
Framaine...you are not crazy at all.I have already started buying baby things!!!!!I hope its not bad luck so im sure a baby book isnt going to hurt.

framine........i live near newcastle and had my reversal at newcastle privatly through sydney ivf a doctor called dr woolnough, it cost us around $5500-$6000 cant remeber exactually, but we did get some money back through medicare ( not much) this doctor actually has a package of your stay in hospital, doctors bills etc, which you have to pay before or on the day you are admitted, after seeing him for the first time i was booked into hospital 2 weeks later, this might be a bit cheaper option than sydney, and your not that far away.......yes i had sucess from the operation, but it took me 18 months of trying, i had 2 m/c prior, and it was only after i decided not to try any more i fell pregnant, as i was obsessing about it........so onemore try and chill out....easier said than done....mind you we are ttc again so knowing me the obsessing will start again.:)
