Hi ladies,
Just wanted to find out if any of you are in the same boat as me. I don't like vegtables, and I do know that one is suppose to eat a lot of veggies while pregnant. So I drink at least 2 glasses of V8 daily, which is 3 lots of serving of vegtables per glass.
Do you think that this is okay? I tried to google, "V8 and Pregnancy", but couldn't find any information. I just want to make sure that I am doing the correct thing for my baby.

I googled it and found some sites that says its fine, even recommended, to get your daily serve of vege when you are pregnant :)

oh i never thought of that! might have to get some 2day. i usually love veggies, but ever since i got preg they are the most discusting things! lol
ahhhhh V8 juice - mmmmmm! Once after many months of being in China I must've gotten a bit malnourished (there's great food in China but my budget - and diet - was kinda suss). I got back to Hong Kong and drank a V8 and "oh my goodness me" my metablism was just about doing somersaults with excitement "real nutrition! Yippee!"
Carrying the V8 principle a little further, how do you like those Boost fruit juice places? I love 'em. They go down easily. YOu can also juice your own at home, I like juiced carrot, celery, beetroot - yum.
other ideas for the vege-phobic:
* good ol vegemite! on wholemeal toast
* molasses on toast
* baked beans on toast
* yoghurt drinks
* spirulina
* lentils
* barley (in soup can be nice)
* sardines are good in the first trimester (sorry if I am grossing out any sensitive tummies) because it's a rich source of Omega oils that help the baby's brain grow well!

Great suggestions Julie!!! I am also having problems facing vegetables in first tri... but I think I can handle a bit of veggie juice and baked beans on toast! :D
Maybe also try cookign up a veggie soup with lots of goodies in it - and if you add a bit of meat (I use bacon but you shouldn't use it if it is cured with nitrates) then it doesn't taste like veggies :)

i just did a bit of research, it's good to know that you can drastically reduce your risk of developing all kinds of complications and conditions that can lead to interventions (like being induced, which then leads to many more interventions) by eating a diet that is rich in:
- protein
- calcium
- magnesium
- potassium
- zinc
- plenty of plain water
- salt to taste
- including the old nasty of high blood pressure and Pre Eclampsia.
I hear Fish Oil is good during pregnancy too.
So there are people like me!!
I love veggies soo much but since pg, i cant seem to have them. They make me throw up, just thinking of them makes me sick. It seems ok if it's in fried rice, etc but I cant take it on the side.
I got some Berri vegie juice yesterday and am hoping it's will make up for it.
Oh and minestrone soup too, I can still have that and that might be an alternative for you guys too.
yer and campbells chicken and veggie soup is nice too, cant taste the veggies!
Max you crack me up :) How can you pass up veggies for V8 LOL??? When I was pg with Flynn I toyed with the idea of drinking V8 to supplement my (already vegie-filled ;)) diet but it was horrible LOL!!

OHH i just tasted the veggie juice, omg i think it is horrible! looks like tht substitute has gone out the window!
I am terrible when it comes to eating veggies. I like only like potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, lettuce. I don't like green leafy veggies at all...I do tend to eat kidney beans, and anything cooked in a tomato base sauce.
Anyone who doesn't like V8 Veggie drink, I didn't like it at first, but you get use to it. I can't say that I love the drink, but it is okay. I have to drink this while I am pregnant for my baby....
Isn't it exciting bringing this little bundle of joy into this world...I can't wait....so curious to see what he/she will look like..

Get the tropical flavour V8 fruit and Veg it is much more palatable and no so much like drinking cold tomato soup.
V8 is BLEURGHHH! LOL. If you like it it's great though ;)
One question though Max...what you gonna say when toddler bubs, told to eat up his veggies to grow big and strong, says "But mumma you NEVER eat veggies!" LOL
I think your bubs is Blue, no idea why... Are you finding out with a scan?

I love vegetables!! I think it's hard work though, even as a vege lover to get down 5 serves of vegies every single day. I know most people dont' but it is so so so so so important when you are pg. bub needs some too. Your nutritional requirements double! But V8 juice sounds like a nice way to sneak in an extra few. :D why don't you try winter vegetable soups? They are my fav for sneaking in a few extra servings.. or I cook corn on the cob then cut it off and snack on it.
hoobley is right. Any mum who doesn't eat veggies is going to have a lot of trouble getting their kids to eat veggies. We have terrible trouble getting my step daughter who is 4 now to eat them because she has watched her dad say "no peas for me" or "no veggies for me tonight". He is now having to have them regularly in order to get her to eat them. He's feeling a whole lot better for it too. Try and get yourself retrained in to eating them now.... for the future.
For those who don't like the taste of veggies try putting gravy on them or putting a cheese sauce on your broccoli and cauliflower. Honey in your carrots will sweeten them up. A bit of mint in your peas can improve them as well. Start looking at some cook books for some ideas on how to make your veggies tasty, they don't need to be bland.
Dieticians usually say that eating the original fruit or veg is far better for you than drinking the juice of them. Not sure why that is, but that's just what I've read.
