Washing Of Baby Clothes
Hi everyone,
just wanting to find out from anyone if they are washing any of their baby clothes that they buy or have been bought for them. Spoke with the midwife at my antenatal check up today and she adivised that I should be washing everything that I buy or has been bought for me.
Whats everyones thoughts on this ?
-
YES.
I always wash all of our clothes before we wear them. Especially my babies stuff. You don't know who's filthy hands have touched them in the shop.
Besides I want them to smell nice and clean, not like stale shop smell :D
-
Yep, I washed all clothes too as well as blankets, sheets, etc
-
Yes I always wash new clothes before they are worn.
-
Yep i washed everything before DD was born, our antenatel class midwife told us too as they soemtimes have a spray or something on them to stop them from going wrinkly in the shop! (not sure if its true)
i LOVED doing them all and looking at them on the washing line blowing in the wind, now its just a PITA, DD has so many clothes LOL
-
Yeah washed everything here too - some people use amolin but I just used a tiny amount of normal washing powder! As someone said - you dont know who has touched it plus it gets that nice washed smell!
-
I also wash everything bought or given 2nd hand. Not in anything special just the same as we are using.
-
I washed every single item for DD..i loved having all her clothes on the line..but PITA cos they were all so tiny! washed them all in Amolin and Purity softener to make them smell so fresh and clean.
Have done the same with this bubs clothes too :)
-
yeah mum told me to wash EVERYTHING!! even the curtain i wil lbe hanging just in case!
-
Yep I'd definately wash them. They might have chemicals on them or other people's festy germs. I use Lux soap flakes and baby softener. It also made them smell so lovely...that beautiful baby smell that always melts my heart!! And makes me clucky... ;)
-
yep i washed everything - clothes, blankets and wraps.. i used purity wash and softener
-
I've washed all my baby clothes, blankets, shees etc. I used Am-o-lin and softener and baby's clothes are so soft! Am-o-lin was recommended to me by my belly buddies.
-
Yup - gotta wash everything, They use heaps of icky chemicals on new clothes to make them stay fresh and give them that new clothes smell - bub's might have sensitive skin and get a nasty rash, I washed everything in LUX flakes (pure soap flakes made especially for special care garments) and Cuddly fabric softener (to make them smell pretty) because all the women in my family told me to!
You have to be careful with some types of fabric softeners, They have a warning on the back that they may decrease fire resistance in children's sleepwear - If you're worried about that. You can get fabric softener for babies though :)
-
I only washed the little things that I would be using right away. I kept everything with the tags on until I knew I was going to be able to use it. You never know how bubs is going to grow and there will be things you can't use because bubs doesn't grow into them in time. If you keep the tags on, you can swap them for a bigger size or something more suitable.
I just used our regular washing powder.
-
I washed everything too :)
-
I have also heard that you need to put the clothes through the rince cycle twice to ensure there is no detergents still on them (incase bub has a reaction to it).
Does anyone do this?
-
well as you can see, Yes you are supposed to wash everything first.
Having said that I never bother (unless they are second hand clothes), but alot of babies have very sensitive skin, which is the reason why you should.

yep i always wash my baby clothes in softly makes them smell nice and feel soft ! i never use normal washing powder because babys skin is very sensitive lol !
