Have you been induced and had vaginal delivery?

Hi all,

Ob discovered this week i have preeclampsia. Have been in hospital since tuesday but hings are getting worse. Blood pressure 172/126. Blood tests not good.
Am being induced with gel tonight, more gel in morn, and drip if that doesn't work.

I was hoping to avoid induction and have a normal physiological child birth, unfortunately that aint gonna happen! So have revised my hopes, and am now hoping to have as little intervention as possible and a vaginal delivery. OB is very supportive and hopes for this as well.
(Most important thing is that baby and i are ok, so if i end up in theatre, so be it, as long as we are alright.)

I am looking for positive stories about inductions and vaginal deliveries. If you have one, please share with me!

I was induced with a drip with both DD and Charlie, and had a VB both times. With Charlie, he was in distress and I was booked for a caesar at 2.00pm if I hadn't had him by then and I birthed him at 1.59pm. :)

You could also ask if your cervix is open to have your waters ruptured instead of the drip. You can be induced and have a vaginal birth, it's completely possible. The rates of c/s are very high though in first time mums being induced. Even if you do have a C/S, a normal physiological childbirth is still completely possible - there is a reason you need to be induced so it's definitely needed.

Cervix high and closed tight! But he said he will check it after the gels and and break waters if possible. Fingers crossed!

You have a very good chance of a vaginal birth. In fact the majority of inductions I have seen have resulted in a vaginal birth.

I was induced at around 8am, they broke my water and found that I was 2cm dilated. I didnt have gel though.

They hooked me up to a drip but that was on very, very low and was not really needed as contractions started to come on virtually straight away.

They came on very gradually, first I felt a little niggle then they grew from there, so I was able to get used to the feeling, I had gas when they started to get quite painful and that got me through until the epidural arrived. If I was game enough I think I could of got through without the epi but i didnt want to feel the actual delivery, my choice. When the epi was put in I was due to push so I practically got through all of it with just gas and I was VERY proud of myself with that as my pain threshold is non-existent!!

My DD arrived at 2.15pm that afternoon, so it was quick in most peoples standards but I loved the fact I didnt have to wait all day for something to happen and by tea time I had showered and eaten and had a beautiful baby girl to show off to visitors who came that night for visiting hours.

I think back to my Induction and labour quite often, I am actually yearning for it again!!! I cant wait till I have another baby and I hope it is as memorable as my first. Next time I will have my partner take video so I can relive it again and again as it will be our last baby.

I had my dd early coz of PE too but I had her @ 31 weeks. I was induced, also had a stitch in my cervix which was taken out and waters broken, then put on the drip. I had a normal vb with her which I didnt think was possible with her being so early. Wishing you all the best.

I had an induction with my 3rd birth. I had my waters broken and labour didn't start (in hindsight due to her being posterior), it was very hard and did result in my having a retained placenta and post partum haemorrage. Another thing is that they might say they need to continually monitor you as well, but this isn't necessary - intermittent monitoring is fine, but considering the circumstances for your induction, you would have to have more monitoring anyway.

Good luck - Like Alan said you have a great attitude - so keep that train of thought and you will do fine.

hi Ange- i'm so sorry to hear this has happened- i know how keen you have been to have a go at at natural birth. sounds like your drs know what they're doing though and that you're in good hands. good luck with it all honey!! like everyone has been saying, you have a great attitude and i know you've been doing heaps of reading and asking questions to empower yourself, so you'll be just fine, no matter what happens. i'll be thinking of you- and how exciting you get to meet your little one so soon!!! can't wait to hear your birth announcement. best of luck xox

Sorry Caro you are wrong. Normal physiological birth means no interference, it's more defined than natural birth. Birth out of the vagina is vaginal birth but women are too embarrased to use the word. I have no problem saying it but the word vagina is in my vocabulary almost every day in the work I do, so I am immune to embarassment about it.

Alan, a midwife who works in the RWH told me of all the first time mums coming in for an induction, around 50%+ end up with a c/s.... thats high to me. I guess there are different forms of inductions too which all have different implications.

i have been induced with all three of my girls due to high blood pressure (not pre-eclampsia though) and i had vaginal births for all.
My first 2 i was in labour for about 8 hours and my 3rd for 2hours. For all three i had the gels, ARM and the drip. Best of luck for tonight :)

I was induced for high blood pressure with Emerson. They tried the gels which did nothing and then broke my waters and I was in labour straight away lol. 5 hours labour I pushed out my little man! It is certainly possible. When my waters were broken I was already 2cm dilated.

I was extremely lucky in hindsight as there had been a change over in Dr's just before I had Emerson. A midwife commented that had I been with the old Dr's I would have been induced 2 weeks before I was. And funnily enough since the new Dr's have joined the c-section rate has dropped dramatically. Food for thought anyway!

I had an ARM done so technically ive been told thats induction and i went on to have a vaginal delivery, but ended up with a vac extration cos Chelsea could never crown.

I just wanted to say good luck!! You will do a super job whatever happens. I really do hope that you are able to have a vaginal birth and I think with your positive attitude you have a great shot at it.

I was induced and it hit me hard and fast, I freaked out and closed my mind to everything and all I wanted was pain relief! My only advice is to remember to stay positive (easier said than done!) and to keep your mind open and clear! I ended up having a epidural which slowed things down and my little man needed the ventouse to help pull him out (he was posterior as well). The MW's were quite sure that had I not had the epidural that I would have delivered my little man all on my own. (I got to 9cm with no pain relief) Can't wait to hear all about it.

I started pushing with no pain relief (it doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as people make out) and could have gone for longer had DS not been posterior and needed to be turned - that's when I needed the pain relief!
