Ray I'm not sure about transferring the virus through the wash :dunno: You could wash in hot and use the dettol rinse for a few washes to be on the safe side I guess. Sorry I'm not much help! My nurse didn't talk about that bit, just to be careful and wash hands really well.
Lea I have had my hands on so much poo over the years it doesn't bother me. I think I'm immune to it  I just can't do spew though
I'm a bit sad with my nappy dilemmas ATM :( Got my hands on some size1 Auriels and they are almost too small for Ruby :( Won't fit for long but size2's swim on her. She's too big for small ittis but too small for mediums :wall: Very frustrating!
Oh and I think *knocks wood* that Caleb has finally decided to TT. He's doing really well. Been nappy free for the last 3 days and only one accident today, which was as he was trying to pull his pants down. Yesterday we went on two adventures - to playgroup where he wee'd on the toilet (after refusing to sit on it and screaming initially) and then we went to coles after picking up the boys from school and he did it all wearing jocks. I'm so glad he's actually decided to co-operate with me finally instead of fighting me and being defiant just because he can
-
Raven that is such a bugger about sizes for Ruby! We started with cloth when Em was older so went straight into Mediums.
I forgot to add to my post before about BF poo! It IS so much nicer than FF poo! Def sweeter and not as gross in general. I actually miss it!
-
Rayray - i can understand why the child nurse would be worried about you washing in cold (after the vaccination). Just use MCN but use 60 degrees hot water.
i read an enormous thread on another forum last year, about how to wash mcn when your child has gastro. 90 degrees hot water, and for a fortnight AFTER they have gotten better. and to cope with the 90 degrees, to use flats, prefolds, contours (stuff that DOESN"T have elastic in it, cos 90 degrees hot water would kill the elastic). and stuff without PUL too. so i suppose that leaves you with prefolds.contours.flats and woollen soakers.
i know rota virus isn't gastro, but thought i might as well throw this into the mix too.
LECKERT -
Cushie Tushies - an aio that DOESN"T need a cover
Cute Tooshies OSFA bamboo delights fitted DOES need a cover
i suspect you have a Cute Tooshies, so you did exactly the right thing.
congrats on your first go at using mcn, it DOES take time to get used to it. the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
nappy flat folds need some origami
but PREFOLDS - well if you can fold an A4 piece of paper into three, there, you have just demonstrated the "skill" level needed for prefolds! (they are designed to be used INSIDE a cover with leg gussets, e.g like your Motherease RIkki covers.
prefolds can be THe Nappy for the newborn
later on, they are The Insert for pocket nappies, THe Booster for fitteds, extra absorbency for night nappies, you just keep using them until tt-ing.
Raven - congrats on Caleb tt-ing. What weight is the divine Miss Ruby now? is she up to 8kg?
wotbb: blueberry trainers and purple/aqua longies
we went to visit Beatrix today and with all these other little people to play with, bilby went all shy!:wall: Little MJ is now walking about all confident like, as gorgeous as ever. and Leckert, MeganH was there too, baby hasn't arrived yet!
-
MLM - DS has ponky pee here too ..he wears keester kovers and the booster reeks in the morning .. i need to do a strip wash but i have no idea how to do one in a front loader ..
Raven - Sz 1 fits up to 9kg , i think a sz 2 would be too big on Gabbi aswell (not that id know, can never get my hands on one lol ) but prolly not for long either .. i love med ittis BUT even in med size Gabbi can get leg gape the wings meet in the middle and i can cross them over but the her pudda belly pops over the top and looks uncomfy ..
Gabbi out grew her small magic alls at about 8.5 mths ( starting to get crackage as she grew alot in length that month ) and med MED magicalls are only for night time , the minkee ones are rad for over night for her ... if im usuing them in the day the MA's are over her belly button ... heheh harry highpants .... shes 1 next month and 8.2 kgs ... pocket sized :)
any one know why my minkee is going dodgy ?? like when you wash a teddy bear and it comes out all manky and stiff .. kwim ????? am i washing them wrong ? any one else get that ??? its anoying me alot as i have to put them in the dryer to fluff them up .. but id rather not ...
-
ooooo new thread time :)
not much nappy news here :( wish i was recieving fluff some time soon...welll i may be....as soon as i pay my layby off at Mels....some more ecobubs....lurve...them
-
I need someone to kick my butt! DS is in sposies :( My morning sickness is so severe I cant handle washing the MCN but I need someone to be like "Suck it up Princess!!" (Maz, Arimeh, anyone?)
-
Suck it up princess :p
Just doin what I'm told...
-
raven, i know what you mean about the auriels, there is a HUGE difference between size 1 and 2 isnt there? I think they should make a 1.5 :p
who was talking about nappies fitting and then not? my abby gros were a shocking fit not long ago, now they are perfect again, as with the ittis. I think there is definately a need for "in between" size nappies! ittis and abby gross seem to fit that perfectly!
i am waiting on a very special fluff :) thats all i am going to say lol!!
her BB iso's fit like a glove - but i am just going to wait till her mediums are all over with before i put them on the shelf, i figure larges are going to be on the shelf for a much longer time :)
wohb - sb's ss fitted (leah did you end up getting some? they are fantastic)
-
Oh, Rhyb ,, ech I still remember the pain of morning sickness hope it's not triple strength for you - hopefully it will pass in a couple of weeks and the smell of MCN's won't set you off anymore. Have you tried using flushable liners so that you don't have to deal with too much of the smell in the meantime? I find when I use them I don't have to be 'exposed' to the stenchy mess for more than I would a disposable as just wipe the liner down with all the stuff in it and chuck it in the toilet straight away, then just wipe and new nappy.
Had a horrid night last night, DD has a cold, this is the first time she has ever been sick so was a new experience for me. Woke 4 times crying hard and snuffling, didn't want to drink anything from bottle, didn't want boob, didn't want to lie down or sit down, was ok walking around but I thought I was going to pass out if I kept that up I was so tired and out of it. finally got her to take boob as have still got a teensy bit in there if she wakes in the night and that got her settled enough to get put back into bed for another little sleep before it all started again. So I put her in a sposie as was too tired to go downstairs and get the nappies out of the dryer - big mistake. This morning, Wet poo out her leg, up the top at the front and the bag leaked on her onesy, singlet everything - Sposies just don't have the containment of my MCN's.
WOEB: CT Yellow Basix - Ooops - hoping she doesn't sleep too long this morning as didn't get chance to change her into a more absorbent one.
-
:hiding: hullo strangers.....
-
Rhy, hun I would do whatever it takes to get thru the MS. The triplets are taking the energy that you manage to get, considering the MS, that wont be much, so relax, if you need him to be in sposies, sposies it is.
Well Leah confirmed that she is a very heavy wetter. She outwet 8 layers of bamboo in a CT this morning. In an hour. All the boosters were wet and then her suit got wet.
WOSB: Blue with white dots CT Couture
WOEB: froggy CT couture
WOLB: BWDM with bamboo foldup and ME Rikki cover.
-
rhyb I went through a phase of not being able to tolerate C's pooey nappies when I was PG. I'd sling them in the trough and deal with then when I felt a bit braver. Quite often the next day I'd end up with a few and go gung ho at it. Quite often the poo would go a bit hard and it comes off easier and didn't smell as bad  Not good for stains but most of them ended up sunning out eventually lol!
But if you've got to use sposies for a bit then that's fine. I think that's what sposies are for - for when you can't do cloth sometimes!
Kitt3n there is a 1.5 in the works apparently. I emailed Lesley to suggest it and she said it was on the way but didn't give any hints as to when.
Gigi not sure on her weight but will be seeing the nurse on Tuesday for our special visit ;) I was keeping this quiet but I'm all a bit excited cos I just had the phone ring while I was typing this just now. Ruby is going to be in a promo ad on teev for the vic government :shhh:
-
does anyone here use flats/prefolds exclusively? even if it was only for a short time...i need help...
eta: need comparison between the 2...drying time/folding time...prefably if the 2 has relatively similar make-up
-
sorry Rhoda...i did have all intention of using 'flanny flats' when i 'ran out' of pockets/AIO'S/AI2'S...but only ever used flats twice i think...i never have run out of MCN's....
-
Rhoda I used flanny flats for the first 3 weeks. Worked great, I was changing him often enough it didn't really matter :) With a ME Rikki cover most of the time. I had about 25 and they lasted fine, cos they dry in no time at all :)
WOO HOO My Whizz Kidz package came today :D A night nappy, and 2 fitteds :) Can't wait to try this NN.
I was looking at my cupboard last night thinking how many I have and how sad I am having so many for one child... :(
I need another!
Last count, 97 nappies. I did so well and culled back from 130 to 60 and now im back up there :S
-
Rhoda the flats will dry a tad quicker than prefolds :) Folding times are a tad longer for flats but I'd also fold my prefolds nice and neatly too so I don't think that made too much of a difference overall.
-
how about bamboo flats/prefolds?
another question: which is better as boosters later on, flats or prefolds?? size-wise.
-
Flats will dry quicker than prefolds because the prefolds are layered down the middle.
Bamboo prefolds are better for long term use as a booster later on. Cotton wouldn't cut it with toddler wees! I made them 30cm square and they worked brilliant for Ruby as a newborn and I use them in Calebs pocket nappies now. Well I did ;)
Flats have their pros too though and make great burp cloths and I always have a spare one in the nappy bag for change times as II'd rather wash one of them than the change mat.
-
hmm off to think...i'll be back with more questions
-
Hi ladies just a quick stop in before I make dinner.
Still no accidents, sleeping in undies now too. So proud of my little boy. Bought all the stuff for his birthday party today wanting to get it all now so I'm not so rushed next month. Can't believe I planned his birthday party for the day before my wedding. I must be an idiot lol
Ali - look out for a PM coming your way soon.
Anyone hear much from Anna? I only see her fb updates.
How many prefolds and covers do you suggest for a NB? Going to start making mine soon when the hype and stress of the wedding is over.
Teru - I will reply to your PM on NA soon hon been very slack.
Hmm had so much more to say - will be back later ;)
-
cm- i sent u a PM?? cant remember haha. im trying to do too many things at the same time....just whenever :D
-
Hi lovelies
I read, but not much time to post these last few weeks with school holidays and visitors etc ....
But I have had some great nappy news - you might recall i bought 2 D'Lish seconds from Ittibitti and I thought one might have been accidentally marked as a medium instead of a small? Well I took some photos for Judith and when I did also realised the lilac one (of concern) had only 6 snaps instead of 8 :wall: - didnt notice that before somehow ....
Anyways, she emailed back no probs with an exchange of my choice in size etc so a large chocolate on its way - i thought Z will only be in mediums for another month I think anyway so it will be great timing.
And he still continues to poo every time I put one of my 3 Ecobubs on him - so I havent bought the cookies and cream one yet LOL - but still stalking ;)
Will be more visible next week when things hopefully get back to a bit more normal!
-
LECKERT - i was thinking today, after the "steep learning curve" when you first start using mcn, and the confusion "which are the fitteds", "which ones need covers" etc. and remembered what i did at the start to ease that confusion for our family.
when sorting the dry laundry, i bought several $2 plastic baskets.
i labelled them
- one for FITTED nappies (all absorbent fabric)
- one for COVERS
- one for aio's (do not need a cover)
by sorting thru them in one session, putting them in their baskets, then using ONE shelf in the bookcase near the change table to put
SHELF ONE
- basket of fitteds (with microfleece liner sitting in it already)
- basket of covers
- basket of wipes (with spray bottle of water)
- basket of microfleece liners
SHELF TWO
- basket of aio's
(and a basket for pockets if you have those)
- and at older stages, basket for flushable liners
SHELF THREE
- nappy bag packed ready to go with wetbag, wipes, spare clothes, four nappy changes, hand sanitiser, change mat, (this de-stressed me at going out times, knowing that SOMETHING was ready, so one less thing to do, and it stopped me LOSING, FORGETTING to pack the wetbag.)
that idiot proofed it for me and dh. So even with our waking every two hours bub, and me being a sleep deprived zombie, the labels on the baskets, and the nappies being in SOME kind of order (i didn't say they were NEATLY in the basket, just IN the basket!!) - really helped, cos then the only time i had to think about what was what, was at sorting time, after i took the nappies off the clothes airer.
so that simplified/de-stressed me
trying to sort out what was waht, and put them together AT THE SAME TIME as i had a naked wriggly (and maybe crying as well) bub on the changetable, i found too stressful.
oh, and another basket for the cloth wipes
anotehr basket for tubes and misc stuff like nappy rash salves.
This is what worked for me, and it took time for the Plan to evolve! I'm putting it down as an example of what worked for ONE mcn using household. Everyone works out their own system, as you go along, depending on what you need, what works for you, what suits.
RHYB - sorry to hear about the M/s, i had debilliatating M/s for four months, so commiserate with you big time. i remember not even being able to open the fridge door! my sense of smell was SO sensitive.
sometimes, you gotta do, what you gotta do to get thru. If i remember rightly, you are now separated? so i can't suggest your dh deal with the poo nappies when he gets home. Is it only the poo nappies that upset your tum, or is it the wee ones also? Depending on how often your child poops, if you have a kid who is regular enough, for you to ANTICIPATE when they poop, maybe you could use mcn for the parts of the day he wees only, and use sposies, if you are able to anticipate his poops. that's one idea.
are you using the flushable liners at the moment? if you are already, and they're not helping enough, i reckon go to sposies (for the poop nappies, if his poops are all over the day, and not able to anticipate, that might mean 100 sposies).
i got used to having a child who pooped often, but i realise some kids only "go" once every few days. i found the flushable liners brilliant, once the poop was formed, or at least pastey, but it's a whole new ball game, when M/S is in the equation. And i have no clue what it's like to be growing three little people at once! i am imagining you would be VERY tired.
Teru - for longevity - the bamboo prefolds would win hands down. i ditto everything Sammi said. I tried to use a bamboo nappy flat as a pocket stuffer, no way could i get it to fit, so bulky.
wotbb: in the bath, so nothing but a cute little bottom that she loves to wiggle. so funny.
-
Thanks Gigi for sharing your plan! That's really helpful for a newbie like me :) Four nappy changes in the going out bag seems like a lot, I would not have thought of needing that many... I guess I will find out shortly! Great idea to have the bag prepacked, and the liners already in the nappies. I'm planning to use flats until bub is big enough for real MCNs - do you think it's possible to store them folded in such a way that they won't come unfolded when I/hubby grab them at 3am?
-
Thanks for the ideas Gigi. Had pre-stuffed my MCNs so far. I had sorted them out so that I just had the ones needing covers in one basket and the rest (pre-stuffed/boosted) in the nappy stacker that I'd gotten - stuffed in there . I had decided this wasn't quite going to work real well (at least with the nappy stacker) and was trying to think how it was going to get organised. Given me some ideas now anyway (except we can't fit a bookcase in DS's room  - love my books) might have to go on top of the chest of drawers instead.
WOBB - a sposie cause we're not quite game enough to go cloth overnight yet (but the Bumgenius were a nice fit earlier today)

:hello: secret squirelling atm.....

Fess up Maz!
Are there any random swap thingos happening here like those that go on over at NA? Are they even allowed? Maybe I should read the rules lol.
Just baked some anzac biscuits. Yummo. The house smells delicious now. Always loved baking, my new mixmaster has revived my love a little more though.
Does anyone know anyone (?? lol) that can knit me a little white cardi? For me that is. My dress is off the shoulder and being an outdoors reception in August is going to be a little chilly. I want one of those tiny little cardi's that just covers to under the boobs. Anyone know what I'm talking about? They have a name I just can't think of it. Anyway I can't find a nice white one anywhere to match my dress. Anyone?
Umm nappy related? Still putting off packing them away. I don't want to deal with the tears and emotions.
-
CM we have had organised mass swaps in the past and there is a swaps thread if you want to offer anything up for swappage ;)
Is swappage even a word?
What you up to Mizz Mazz?
-
Swappage? Hmm I'll add it if it isn't already there lol
Someone give me a heads up when this next "mass swap" happens. Not nappies though unfortunately :( But if I can GIVE nappies and RECEIVE something else then sure lol
DS just called me "Muuuum Muuuuuum" so I went into his room only for him to giggle and tell me "pup pup on floor!". His puppy had fallen out of his bed so he just HAD to go get him. Cheeky boy, any excuse will do.
Oh wanna hear something funny? DF has to get up for work at 4am, and it's been so cold the last few days that tonight he decided to wear his work clothes to bed! I told him I want lovin' when I get into bed so he's left his fly undone ROFL

CHARMLEA
STRIP WASH - for nappies that no longer are absorbent as they once were
- to get excess washing detergent, nappy cream, fabric conditioner out
HOW TO? - put a tiny amount of MILD dishwashing detergent in the wash, i mean, only enough to cover a 20 cent piece.
keep rinsing until NO MORE SUDS.
if for one item, do it by hand.
DE SMELL WASH - for nappies that are "holding" the urine smell too much
HOW TO?
- put half a cup of bicarb soda, in your machine where you nromally put the wash detergent
- put half a cup of vinegar, in your machine, where you would put fabric conditioner
Do your wash (pre-soak, longest wash cycle you have, long rinse - make sure you use HOT water.
if you use cold water as a rule, to help avoid the smelly fabrics, at least ONCE a week, put the nappies thru a HOT wash.
different babies urine seems to react differently, to various fabrics.
if your bub has HEMP night boosters and they reek to high heaven, try some BAMBOO ones, see if there is any smell difference.
if your bub has MICROFIBRE night boosters and they reek to high heaven, try someother fabric, to see if you get a smell difference.
If you can, do your nappy wash AFTER ngiht nappy has been taken off, so the night nappy is not marinating all day (or two days) before being washed. Some baby's urine is so strong, it can make holes in the fabric. Some baby's urine BECOMES stronger at certain times, e.g when teething. (so will decrease the smell, once that issue is over).
these are things to try, different things work for different people. think of what i've put, as one more strategy to put into your Toolbox of "things to try". if something else works for you, great, share that with everyone, and add to the "toolbox of things to try".
wotbb: bluberry trainer with longies.
her size 2 jeans keep getting lower and lower, she's looking very 'justine timberlake" with her pants so low, and the writing on the waistband of her knickers, showing COMPLETELY! poor bilbs, maybe i should put her back in size 1 jeans. no way am i going to complicate her going to the loo, with a BELT. i've managed to avoid zippers so far too, just trying to make the toiletting as easy as possible.
hi SMOZ! welcome back!
-
i cant catch up...it would take a brain to do that ROFL
Ive become addicted to GF's now......after getting our first OMG its devine! its a custom in rainbow and love it.!!!! 5 hours without a prewash (yeah I know lazy) so now Ive emailed Nikki to get another cumst done, this time with an embroidery.
SOOOOOO I'll be slowly destashing my IB's soon as we have gotten quiet a stash together of sidesnappers slowly.
Other news.......i went into my local baby shop here to give the owners a touch and feel of some of my stash and they loved the IB's, my covers and BBH's so are now going to get some and sell them in store. I offered to do workshops in store for them to explain MCN's and they are more then happy about it. Im so excited!!! an IRL store in my home town
Raven - swappage sounds GOOD!!! I have a few nappies I wouldnt mind swapping......
shall we dance then everyone...shall we get this organised?
What rules shall we put in place?
first one - NO MAGICAL'S!!!! last swap we did I got swamped with them and everyone was happy to get rid of them but didnt want any in return.
need an even amount of people to cause otherwise it just hurts my head
hope everyone is well anyway (after my blah blah blahering)
-
thanks gigi , i am just not sure if strip washing in a FL is the same as aTL.. done many a stripwash in a TL just not a FL... guess i can give it a try , my machine has a medic wash .. its really hot water ... but last time i did that with sheets , all the coulors ran.. so i am scared of it now ..
No nappy news today , im just bumming out at home looking for all my tax info .. BORING ..
but from now on , i dont care how long it takes ... nappies will be dried in the shade .. im over stiff crunchy nappies :wall: then having to put them in the dryer .... grr
-
oohhhh a SWAP ... lets DO IT ..... i promise NO MA's .. i like mine :p do have some good ones that arent right for gabs that need to go bye bye ..
rule #2 - if the nappy is dodgy , like poor qaulity/not absorbent or you rate it as really s*it than dont pass it on ..chances are the recievee will think the same and not be very happy ie: ebay nappies can be a bit of a joke.
how do i replace elastic in an D'lish .. ??
my head hurts .. had a little too many bubbles last night ...
-
