Morning all of you lovely ladies!!!

SuziQ-I honestly dont quiet understand. I went straight into shock mode then trying to keep my self from being upset. What I do remember Frank saying was quiet condradictory. He did say High fasting blood sugar can cause misscarriges. It was the first time he has run that test, but I did have it 6 months ago by my Gp and everything was good. Just another Hurdle!!

Keen- It was the first I heard of a Tunnel test too. It cost us $240 with no rebate at all. The sperm has to be frozen and they are looking for chromizone deformencies. And the only thing they can do to make things even a little better is to have Dh produce a sample daily for at least 2 weeks until egg collection as fresher is best.

Chele- Happy Birthday! Fantastic news. Sending you many sticky vibes!

Janee- Good luck with IVF appointment today.

Leis- Hope you are doing well. I love your Hot chick!

Marg- Waiting is such a hard game to play isnt it! Though your holiday sounds like a great idea. Now as we are forced to have a break we are thinking of going away around easter too!

Shez- I always worry when I am on the synarel that it wont give me the dose required and it wont stop me from Ovulating and therefore not being able to go to egg collection. Crazy Heh! I just think our Worry wort inside gets a free rein when doing a cycle.

I had checked out of BB for a few days, had a friend come up from Sydney on his new motorbike and we hit the road at a very fast pace, I must say, it was fantastic therapy!!!!! I had never been on a road bike before but having grown up riding horses all my life and the board, my balance was pretty bloo*y good!

I've been watching this thread for a couple of days and thought I'd better put in an appearance and introduce myself.

I'm Kar, 39 and am in the ACT. Have been seriously TTC since Oct 2003 with assistance since April 2005. Have no kids and had no pregnancies.

Blue Sky thanks for your suggestion to join this group by PM. Sorry I couldn't reply to you directly.

I had a good chuckle when I read the IVF barbie post somewhere around here and felt right at home.

I'm on my 2nd ICSI cycle and am D9 of downregulating (Synarel). Have my first BT tomorrow to see when I start stims. I had a horror run last time with 39 follies (ovaries felt like bags of sharp gravel and I looked 5 months pregnant which was sort of a nice fantasy but that was about all). But after just avoiding OHSS we only got three embies and none stuck. We're having assisted hatching this time.

I look forward to getting to know you all better. Is anyone else downregulating or stimming at mo?

I am downreging too. Synarel day 6 AF arrived today so off to Dr monday for BT & U/S then stimming.
I had my first IVF cycle in nov 05 got 24 eggs ending up with OHSS and no transfer 5 snowbubs, all 5 thawed to get one for FET in feb BFN :( .
So on to full stim again. I have been doing AC since Oct 04. I managed to get a BFP off a AIH cycle last june ( would have been due tomorrow 16th :cry: ) not to be, m/c 8 wks though never meant to be sac very small.
Wish you all the luck for this cycle we are basically cycle buddies!!

Hi Kar... welcome aboard.. you will find lots of support and form many cyber friendships on the forum and BB itself...Hopefully you will jump across to the preggie part of the forum real quick........

Well guess what Ladies my last embie is a ...... wait for it ....... ta dahhhh OMG 9 cell it started life as a 5 cell. I have never had that before most have been 8 cells and 1 was only a 4 cell. Maybe with Clomid and 2 HCG support injections this big un will give me a HCG BT result well over 40 on the 30th. The embryologist said that is what she is expecting over 40 so they know I am definately pregnant. Ha I just laughed at her but she is the Senior person so who knows maybe my ~Angel~ will look over this one and make it work .

Me, well the review appt yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag. In theory, we should have been pregnant with twins 1st injects cycle in December, second injects cycle in Jan, and a singleton in Feb...levels fab, follicles fab etc etc..... Unexplained infertility really sucks!
We have decided (I think) to do a medicated cycle next month and then straight into IVF for May. I say, "think" because a small part of me still keeps thinking "Be careful what you wish for". Things I've read about IVF stats and children with disabilities scares me. I know the reality is, the child would be as likely to have a disability as any naturally conceived child, but I just can't get it out of my mind.....you know, the whole notion of messing with nature etc.... Please, oh wise women, I need advice right now, or reassurance, or both!

Yes the stats are scary but in your heart you will do what you think is right anything can and does happens just as much with a NAtural Prgnancy as with an IVF Pregnancy so do what ever you feel comfortable with as it is your boby and your desicion. Stop looking for trouble with all the stats.

Sometimes Nature and Dreams need a little Help is the motto of REROMED here in SA perhaps you could speak to Dr about your concerns and try different methods before going full on ICSI.

Thanks Angel Baby's Mum....I think I'm just nervous about the next step, which is a big one. IUI is not really an option as DH and I decided that rather than potentially waste abother few months, we really wanted to give it our best shot, through IVF...and if nothing else, it will provide us with some answers as to why our dream hasn't yet come true. It's difficult having no answers, and yet I can see, it's just as hard having explanations.... thank you again for your comments.

Kar - hey there! Welcome to our gang (hee hee). Totally know what you mean about the ovary pain - all three of my flare cycles have resulted in over 45 follies - and it does sometimes feel as though you will pop, doesnt it?! Fingers crossed for this go - and hope you are into the pregnancy threads very very soon!

Chele - goodluck with it all - sounds as though all is going very well so far this cycle... and a 9 cell is fantastic! I really hope this is the one for you guys :crossfingers:

Janee - I think it is fair for you to be thinking the way you are about not wanting to mess with nature and all that. I know I definitely would prefer to do it the 'old fashioned' way ;) . But the important thing is that you are comfortable and happy with the decision you make - regardless what any of us say. Trust in yourself and you will make the right decision for you (like Chele said).
By the way - Stats, Shmats! If they were accurate I would have at least 3 children by now.... but alas I do not. And many others have one go and bam! So there pretty useless really #-o

Im now just waiting for AF to arrive - interesting when these months come about when you actually want her to hurry up and show so you can start the next cycle - no doubt she will be late this time!

Janee – I agree with what Chele & Keen have said. I am a big advocate for reading up and getting all the info but to be honest, I’m yet to hear of an IVF child born with a disability. But does it really matter if the child has a disability? Would you love the child any less? As Keen said, I’m sure we’d all prefer to do it the natural way (who would WANT to do IVF if they really didn’t have to?) but this is our reality. Yes, there are risks involved – you have to be comfortable within yourself with those risks. Nothing is guaranteed. You put your faith in a bunch of specialists & scientists and pray for the best. Will get off my :soapbox: Happy pondering!

I was also told by my doctor that the reason the stats on IVF bubs were alittle higher was because the cliental were specialised not the mainstream so the odds on older, reversals and PGD tested embies were enough to have conflicting stats that are not a true indication.
Just my bit lol although I do see alot of IVF kids with turns in the eyes. I'm sure it has nothing to do with it just an observation. And the halk eye I am watching my daughters eyes can pleasly announce NO turn

Janee, I second/third/fourth/what ever number we're up to about going onto IVF. For me I just thought it was a process of elimination to find what's wrong. Take your time, but hoping it's all good for you either way.

Keen, I agree, where's the witch when you want her. Actually I'm hoping she visits me late (or actually on time as I'm usually 5 week cycle naturally) otherwise it puts me at an Easter pickup which would mean dodging PHols which doesn't help with the PGD being done over east.

Hope I didn't offend anyone with the IVF stats comments...I have to be honest though, and say that regardless, there will always be an element of uncertainty, whether it be a natural conception or otherwise. And being a worrier, it's just in my nature to worry. Anyway, enough said on that topic. And as I said, I didn't mean to offend anyone with my comments.
I've been taking the herbal remedies for almost a week now, and feeling pretty good. Hope you all have a fab weekend \:D/

as far as IVF stats go, I do understand your misgivings. I had them too when I first started out. But the simple fact is that women who have to undergo IVF have fertility problems, and it is believed that it's not the IVF procedure per se that increases the chance of genetic defects, but the kinds of problems these women bring to the table in the first place that make them high risk for children with genetic problems.

In fact, when you look at the percentage of genetic problems of IVF children in relation to the kinds of fertiltiy problems the women have, IVF women actually have a slighter smaller chance of having a baby with medical needs than the general population. This in part has been helped by PGD and embryo screening, and of course, natural selection, same as in natural conceptions.

As a mum of 3 naturally conceived children, I have to admit, I actually have less worries about this child having medical issues than I did with my first three. This little'un was monitored and cared for and tested and checked from day dot, and that is so very reassuring. Plus, I've had a far easier pregnancy with this one at 35 than I did will my first three when I was in my early 20s!

Edited to add: Also I don't know if it's so much that everyone was taking offence, as the fact that this thread is usually populated by many women who have had many, many goes at IVF/Assisted Conception, as compared to the Long Term Trying to Conceive thread, where many of us started our IVF journeys. A lot of them, I guess, have not only had to make peace with IVF/AC possibly being their only hope of conceiving, but have also had to face the harsh reality that this, their only hope, often doesn't work first time, nor the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th, for that matter.

I was very much an IVF 'veteran' so to speak, with 7 failed previous cycles, but there are many who do far more than that. I think I got past the part where I worried about IVF causing birth defects around the 2nd cycle, and instead began to worry about ever being able to fall pg ever again! I think a lot of the women here are also at that point (if you girls don't mind me speaking for you!)

So please don't see it as anyone taking offence, janee. I'm sure everyone here at some stage early on has felt that confusion and uncertainty about IVF. That's only natural for you as a potential mum. I reckon, read up as much as you can about IVF and make a good informed decision about what the cost to you will be emotionally, psychologically and financially. We've all been there and will be here to help if you need us.

Janee - I never dreamed I'd ever be on IVF or ICSI but here I am. But this is the only chance I have left as my dr told me that at 39 and with a DH with poor morph we have about a 3% chance of things happening normally and the older I get the lower that chance gets. My clinic says that there is evidence from the Brussels group that the number of abnormalities for ICSI is no higher than for the normal population but in Australia any ICSI babies do have to be monitored just in case.

More generally they say this: "Some recent publications have indicated there is an increased risk of abnormalities in children conceived using ART, others have not been able to confirm these increases. It would appear that the technique such as IVF is not responsible, and the increased risk, if it exists, lies with the causes of infertility." Which is pretty much what Sushee and BecG said.

KeenAs - Glad to hear someone else has had a similar experience with lots of follies. They treated me as a bit out of the ordinary at my clinic and I haven't come across many others with around 40 folls. But maybe coz I'm an old girl. I could barely sit down!

BlueSky - There are at least two clinics here in the ACT. Sydney IVF and the Canberra Fertility Centre. I'm with CFS which has been going since 1986. They are a great bunch.

Janee - you go wherever you feel the most comfortable and know that you can always come to us "long-termers" any advice, to ask any questions or just for support. You most probably will find many others in a similar situation as yourself in the Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception thread and at times can be more helpful. Plus at times we, well at least I know I can, get a little jaded about all this IVF and stuff, so best not let our lack of success effect your optimism and hope, k.

BTW, i did not feel offended in anyway, and dont think any of us really did. Im pretty sure we all asked ourselves similar questions when we started down this path too.

Janee, I've been sitting here for a couple of days now trying to find the right words to respond to your concerns. Keen has expressed part of the reason why I was hesitating. I am always conscious of reminding the girls that I'm 'the one for whom it never worked' and hate to think that deters anyone from doing all they can to hold their own bub. It can be a bit hit and miss at first to find the right forum for you. I float around these days 'cause I don't belong anywhere any more ;) . Mods.... any thoughts on ever creating a forum for those who finally had to hang up their boots?? Nah, only joking, I hope there won't ever be enough ladies in that boat.

I'm enjoying time off again, but feel it is going fast. I think I'm starting to think the worst though, but at least I'd have an answer. Have already thought if I get no normal embies, I'd try again in a couple of months in case I had a dud round...
I guess that's what makes me a verteran (barbie), thinking the worst....lol.

Janee- It is so normal to worry. I read all the stats too, but to be honest all any of us can do is follow our heart and make our own choices. You need to do what you feel comfortable with. I hope that you get your BP down soon and that not long around the corner you will get that BFP!!

SuziQ - I definitely do KWYM. ;) Also think that maybe having a "hung boots up" forum might be a worthwhile idea or maybe even a forum for people thinking about it. On 6 March, LifeMatters (Radio National) had an interview with Annarosa Berman who has just written a book called "Sex at 6pm: a personal journey through IVF" about her failed IVF attempts. I listened to the interview but got really upset by the end (I strongly suggest anyone over 37 on IVF with any hope left DOES NOT listen to the program - coz its a real downer). I think it might be good when you have given up. So I'm not buying it yet. Hope you find someone to travel with soon.
Tam - a flare sounds quite good. A DownReg seems to take 6 weeks out of my life each time. I'm going to ask whether they do it at my clinic if I have to do this all yet again! I know what you mean about thinking the worst. I'm definitely in veteran barbie land most days at the moment.
Shez - did you have your BT yet? I'd love some company on stims.

Update on me: On the good side - thank goodness the down reg is over and I can have some rose tint back in my glasses. On the bad side - I'm now on my fourth day of puregon and I started getting uncomfortable night before last with an achey left ovary starting yesterday. None of which is a good sign. Am scared I might be going to over stim again. Rang my clinic this morning and am waiting to hear from the Nurse Coordinator about whether to go in for an early BT. I'm already busting out of my trousers! It seems to be working faster with a lower dose! And it is SOOO hard to concentrate on doing any work!

Keen, I hope that AF shows her face soon, I know what it is like waiting for her to visit, I missed our FET this month due to her not showing, little did I know that I was actually pg, and M/C about 5 weeks ago. transfer for us would have been last Thur, but thats the way it goes.

Well as from last Sat, I am now on BCP, we are doing a full stim cycle in May, and there is no way I am missing a 3rd cycle due to AF not showing up on time.

DH has applied to have a month off work when we do our next cycle as his work is a bit funny with him having time off for OPU and transfer, and as some of you know I am such a woos with injections he will be able to do this for me again.

Sorry I haven't been around for a few months I had to have some time away to get my head around all my IVF failures.
So hopfully I'll be around more.

Hi all I'm day 1 no turning back now, made an appointment to see my gyn\obst to discuss possible outcomes. DH is so excited you would never guess that we had so many BFN cycles Apparently cycle 20 on IVF is suppose to be lucky according to him

Just got back from my ultrasound. I've got 26 follies between 5 & 9mm on the left and 11 between 5 &10mm on the right already! They said not to worry and they could be dormant (I seem to have developed polycystic ovaries in the last 12 months). Geez! - I'm only on day 5 of stims! Really glad I pushed to have the u/s early. Now just waiting for my BT to see if they'll drop my puregon below 100iu. Does anyone else have words of wisdom for me! (2pm update - E is 1000 they want me back for another BT and u/s on Friday)

Shez Yay! nice to have some company. My clinic just does a BT to see if we've down regulated - but guess you see. If all goes to plan we might have OPU around the same time.

Bec - OMG! 20 cycles! Please tell me you count FETs as IVF cycles. I'll definitely be coming to you Bec when I need some motivation not to give up. I'm already thinking hard about whether I could handle another round - I can't begin to imagine what going through so many must be like. Did you keep a journal or anything? Ever thought about writing a book?

insights OMG I have many.

I have been on the IVF train now for 16 months now, TTC for 4 1/2 yrs.

After our last FET we were sooo dissapointed we didn't know what to do, our Dr said that it was really a waste of time using our last emby due to DH's poor swimmers. So we are going to have another full stim cycle ICSI in May - June, where we live they only have clinics every 3 months.

So waiting, waiting, you all know the drill. Unfortunatley we have missed 2 cycles cause the witch never turned up on time, and I had a M/C 5 weeks ago (natural)

So I'm over my little tantrum now of not knowing what to do, as I don't have that much time (I'm 38).

Hey Ann sounds like we have a lot in common. We've been TTC for about the same amount of time although it took me a lot longer to convince my DH something was wrong and get on the IVF train. He has poor morph and I'm just old. I'll be 40 in October. Fingers crossed for your next ICSI. Statistically speaking I could very well be joining you.

Well don't want to jink anything but it's been 1 week tomorrow since transfer and all is good. I unfortunately had to give myself the 2 pregnyl support injestions as DH is at work and those jolly bottles are hard to break aren't they I cut myself even using a tissue to hold the top. Man I don't want to have to go to stim in May as these 2 injestions hurt enough I can't think on having all those others again as it has been too long.

What effect if any will these injections have on my BT next thursday?
