Seriously Concerned About Gardasil (Cervical Cancer Vaccine) | Facebook
Can i just say man those needles hurt like buggery..
The CDC is now warning (right on their website) about the dangers of this shot, they say that there have been over 12,000 girls seriously hurt by this shot and 56 deaths directly linked to the HPV vaccine alone.

I'm so glad I didn't allow my DD1 to have this vaccine.
So glad I didn't get it! So many people tried talking me into it...
Wow that's scary! I have had the shots already tho..
Very scary stuff. I'm thankful I haven't had it. Main reason is because it's not free for me but, I have to admit, I did find some of the stories concerning and that put me off paying. Very glad now.
Was only talking with DD1 (13) yesterday about this vaccine and she was really upset she's the only girl in her year not to have had the jab (she's in year 8 and they got them last year in school). Seeing this now makes me even more secure in my decision not to let her be vaccinnated.
I got all 3 and OMG they were so painful. The got worse as they went on.
Just FYI here's a link to the government info site on Guardasil.
http://www.tga.gov.au/alerts/medicines/gardasil.htm
"61 million doses have been distributed worldwide". The rate of adverse reactions is lower than expected and possible reactions and the likelihood are told to people before they get the vaccine. Zero deaths have been attributed to Guardasil in Australia or the USA, though there have been deaths reported there has been no pattern or connection found.
253,500 deaths per year attributed to cervical cancer and it is claimed that the vaccine will protect in 70% of cases.
Omg...it's a ridiculous vaccine! Why not educate young girls more about safe sex practices, so they're not having unsafe sex and therefore getting infected with the HPV virus...which MAY or MAY not lead to abnormal cell readings on papsmears, which MAY or MAY NOT lead to an increased risk of cervical cancer  I wish I knew how stupid it was and the risks it carried when I was younger and they were pushing it for free at school. I had the two out of three. I refused the last one, but I copped a lot of flak for it.

47 girls died- that really is awful but how many girls did it save from cervical cancer?
As the post above says- 253,500 deaths per year from cervical cancer....the vaccine can protect over two thirds of this...over 160,000 people!
Everything in life comes with risks.
Oh and promote more regular papsmears among women so early detection is more of a regular occurance.
Too true! But I'd rather try that first before jabbing my daughter with this vaccine. It's hard...you don't care that much when you're younger you know, like it can't happen to you. But I do find the notion that this vaccine is promoted as a definite preventative measure against cancer as a tad misleading, there's a lot more to cervical cancer than getting a vaccine IMO.
This vaccine only protects from two strains of hpv doesn't it? There are so many strains going around. ( someone can fill me in on those figures)
Personally, I don't like that they promote it as a cervical cancer vaccine because it's not at all a cervical cancer vaccine.
The current vaccine will protect against more than 70% of cervical cancer.
It's important to understand the death reporting process. The deaths, horrible as they are, were up to 6 months later and often unrelated to the vaccine, things like car accidents. The deaths have been thoroughly investigated in many countries including Australia and NZ and none of the deaths have been shown to be caused by the vaccine. There have been pretty big serious investigations including the very public coroners case in NZ.
BTW I like the idea of guaranteeing that my DD will never have unprotected sex PumpkinZulu, I'm sure a lot of parents would be very interested in your method! I hope very much that we can succeed too!!
No never said guarantee. But to educate her. Sure, have unprotected sex. Weigh up the risks herself. I can't stop her, I know that, so please don't insinuate that that was my intended message. But hey, it's a well known fact that kids are not given good sexual education (generally), from parents and especially schools. But I AM confident that I'll be able to impart to my daughter a good, sound sexual education, where she will be aware of the risks, far greater than a teens number one concern, being pregnancy. And again, she can choose whether or not she has the jab, maybe it will be better improved by then...when she is 18 and old enough to make that choice.
Your right about the education. I genuinely hope our DDs can be sensible and reasoned when they grow up!
I think you only have to read the interviews that lead Gardasil scientist, Diane Harper, has had, to see some very telling information. I am pretty sure I have posted them in here somewhere. One comment included: 'No-one ever got harmed from having safe sex' [on the safety of gardasil] or something to that effect.... not to mention the rest.
Your right, people should only ever have safe sex and carefully planned families! Especially teenagers!
It would save a lot more lives than cervical cancer takes and save many many more tears!
I love the perfect world you ladies live in, I want to live there, seriously, it sounds fantastic. I dearly wish my family (and work) lived in that world! I intend absolutely no sarcasm in this post and I'm deadly serious, I would give almost anything! :)
Well the fact that they have found HPV in children and others who have not been sexually active.... even those who have posted that they have only had one or two partners and still have HPV... this is never going to be a failproof solution anyway, and I would rather not risk my life having a vaccine where more than one or two women have died.
I'm not sure what your saying, are you telling me that HPV isn't involved in cervical cancer or that vaccines don't protect against virses? If your telling me that people can get HPV without even being sexually active then wouldn't that make the vaccine more important?
There were 4,210 deaths from cervical cancer in the US for 2010 and (research suggests) that vaccination can reduce that number by 70%. How many unproven (but properly investigated, no coverups for a New Zealand coroner) deaths from the vaccination were there in that time?
Then I don't think I understood the question. If you don't have HPV then the vaccine can protect you (if your sensibility can't) if you do have HPV and you don't die then either your naturally immune or you get the vaccine and become immune...
Whether you can get HPV without having sex is only important to how young people (men and women, men die too) are vaccinated.
Is that what you mean?
Uhhh, just gotta add...the number of deaths from cervical cancer could be dramatically reduced with more consistent pap smears. Much (not all) of the cervical cancer that leads to death does so because it was picked up too late and at its final stages. More regular pap smears would reduce the number of fatalities in a noticeable way. How do you achieve more regular pap smears? Because it's no secret amongst women that many are putting them off, because they feel uncomfortable, because they don't like them or they are to busy, among other reasons. Education, once again. Not saying that it would solve everything! But more women having regular pap smears equals more cancer or abnormalities being picked up at earlier stages and treated.
You won't find argument with me, there are many checkups and self checks (for men and women) that could save many lives and safe sex is so very important.
What are you going to do to get everyone to do this all the time? If you have a secret formula Ill come and work for you, for free, and we can change the world together. (I'm a nurse and I firmly believe in health promotion and keeping people healthy and out of hospitals!)
Unfortunately I don't feel there is much I *can* do. I'm just some chick with an opinion. I'd love to see the government spend more of it's $$ on better education in those areas, more advertising and awareness for getting checkups, rather than promoting the vaccine as the first point of call.
No doubt! But for *this* particular vaccine...I truly believe education and prevention would save more lives than the vaccine itself. Being such a 'new' vaccine, I think the jury is still way out on how many lives it will actually 'save', in definite terms.
Because it's my style here is a randomised double blind trial for HPV vaccines:
Efficacy of human papillomavirus (HPV)-16/18 AS04-... [Lancet. 2009] - PubMed result
It shows that HPV vaccination reduces pre-cancerous legions by more than 98%. Sounds like a good start, don't you think?
It does sound like a good start. I guess sound being the operative word. I still find a study done 2 years ago a little 'new' for my liking, I think a truer indication of the vaccines success (or otherwise) will be better shown as more time passes, and more people who have received the vaccine get older.
That's a fair cop, but unlike other diseases that can come on quickly cervical cancer takes time. Pap smears preventing cancer work on the principle of finding and removing pre-cancerous legions, if the vaccine can prevent most of the pre-cancerous legions from ever being there in the first place then that's an improvement. Don't forget that having lumps cut out of your cervix can cause other big problems of itself...
Uh...the TEST of time, even. Teat. Lol.
Also, I'm pretty well versed in the ramifications of having ones cervix messed with; after a miscarriage I had a d&c which caused scarring and contributed to a range of serious fertility issues. So cutting out cancer is not something I'd take lightly...but neither is this particular vaccine.
That's fair too, and it deserves a careful trial lasting 20 years and a equally careful rollout with an awareness campaign.
Never mind the potential 5 million women dead in that 20 years...
Ouch. I think that was a bit inflammatory, don't you? Never mind them? Well, back to pap smears and education I guess. 20 years, that's a lot of time to implement other changes. Hell, it's a lot of time for someone to discover this vaccine is crap and dangerous...or, that with a few tweaks, it's fabulous. Geez, I'll be 41 in 20 years time ;) Anything is possible. I fully expect flying cars by then.
 What Rockin fails to mention here, is that only 6% of cervical cancer deaths occur in women under 35 (so over 20 years approximately 84,000 or 4200 a year world wide). Seeing that the vaccine, IF it does what it says it does (and that's a big IF), at most only protects against 70%, so at least 25,200 would occur anyway. The other thing he fails to mention is that 75% of ALL cervical cancer deaths occur within the age bracket from 70 years +. The human body is producing cancer cells ALL the time but the immune system, when working correctly, will destroy them so that it doesn't grow. It's a well known fact that as people get older, their immune systems become less efficient, putting them at risk to ALL cancers, ALL diseases etc. etc. It's simply part of life. To suggest that this vaccine will stop this age bracket from dying from cancer is ridiculous, and flinging around numbers without context is simply fear mongering.
Talking about figures. I don't think the families of these girls that have died would find your dismissal of "some of them including car accidents" well thought out. This simplistic statement ignores the fact that they had the car accident because they fainted at the wheel within 2 hours of having the vaccine. Of course these deaths can't be PROVED, they're just a heck of a lot of coincidences. 1 adverse effect is a coincidence. 10 adverse effects may be a coincidence. When you start getting up to 50, 100, 1000, they stop being coincidences and start becoming patterns. There's a terrible double standard that a pattern (i.e. so many of the control group given aluminium placebo ~ if that's not an oxymoron ~ get lesions) proves that the vaccine protects, but similar patterns of adverse effects and even deaths are just coincidences.
Yet another incidence of changing the criteria and the ruler with which things are measured to achieve a certain bias.
I didn't mean to be inflammatory but it is a valid argument.
Your right to have concerns but considering the progression of the science it's very very unlikely that the vaccine won't work or will be dangerous.
The deaths were a coincidence because out of 50 million vaccinations, less than 50 died within 6 months. What's the natural mortality of women from that age? In the US?
How do you think the coroner or legal system feels about unknown deaths? That person died, oh well we don't know how she died. That's ok, don't worry about it!
What's the relevance of the age stats? Old women die of cancer anyhow? I don't follow you?
