Contractions just stopped!

Yesterday, I thought labour had started. How often do contractions just stop???

I had some period pain, low down, in the morning. And I also felt like I was going to be sick!!! It intensified (back pain too) late morning and then at noon - bang - contraction. The pain built, to a point where I had to stop in my tracks - ouchy wa wa - and then eased. Then bubs had a little move. Had a look at the clock. Ten minutes later - off it went again.

This happened for 90mins - every 10-12mins! :o So I started packing, toddler was asleep! Texted DH to keep an eye on his phone! I thought a shower would help. Then it all stopped!!! :wall: Nothing since the shower.

Bhs continued all afternoon but there was no pain - just the tightenings!!

I have period pain and back ache again this morning.

How often to contractions just stop like that? Does that mean the beginning of labour or could I have nothing again for days?

I am due next Wednesday...having s&s on Monday and induced Wednesday or Friday next week...(due to gestational diabetes) .... but would love to go naturally :pray: as was induced last time and had not a niggle!! So this stopping and starting is new...but they were definitely contractions.

I have organised for DH to start time off next Tuesday after s&s and have to organise toddler, so...

I would love your thoughts??? Is labour near??

It sounds like pre labour I got it for about 4 days for 6 hours straight a day but like bad period pain my longest labour was 6 hours though so it does do something it means it should happen soon though you might have a few mor sessions of them slightly close mine started one day 10 min apart next day 8, then 6 then 4 so when real labour started it was 2 min apart and way more painful...

Oh I hope so, this pre-labour thing is a real drag....am I , aren't I, could it be, maybe!!!!!:protest: Just get on with it for god sake....sorry been awake since 4 can you tell:o

But I am getting period pain too so hopefully it means things are moving....fingers crossed, if you go soon there is hope for me 11 days and counting:D

I agree, sounds like pre-labour. I had it for 4 weeks with DD2 :wall: The only upside was once labour actually stared it was really quick :)

I don't have first hand experience of a long pre-labour but one of my good friends had her 3rd baby on Friday after 3 days of what you've described, and then less than 1.5 hrs of active labour :o She only just made it to the hospital and came very close to delivering in the foyer. So my advice would be to get to the hospital as soon as things crank up a bit as you ladies that have long pre-labour seem to go super fast at the end.

I had lots of prelabour too. Be wary that it could start properly but try not to get disheartened if it doesn't. It could go on for a week!

I agree it's frustrating but it's making things nice and ready for the big event. The 3 of mine that I had prelabour for were 2 hours or less ;)

Ooh, I don't mind a long prelabour if it makes labour quick - not at all!!!!!

Oooh I'm jealous now, where are MY days and days of exhausting and frustrating pre-labour?!? :P

I have been in this pre-labour phase for 12 days now and I am throughly sick of it. I went to the hospital on Sun Feb 6th with contractions 3 mins apart and found out I was 5cm dilated. After 5 hours I was no further on and so I came home. I have periods of mild contractions every day and night and it is driving me insane. I have had 4 s&s but still nothing came of them. The worst part is feeling pretty much tied to the house as I know that when things start to hot up it will be fast. I fact I feel as if I am under house arrest.

I am going to the hospital for a scan tomorrow and if the baby hasn't come by then I will be begging them to induce me. (I am not booked in to be induced unitl Feb 26th)

As you can tell I am very, very fed up.

Oh Flygirl that is such a long time to put up with the uncertainty - you're half way there but not progressing!! I hope things go to plan today.

Im back from Hospital......nothing to report baby only just in 1/5......well I guess its something :redface: Still having period pains, mw tried to tell me it was bh but its not, as I have been having them pretty regularly so i know them :doh:.
And my next appointment will be 40 +5:protest: I am DESPARATELY trying to change it to +1, as I want an S+S asap after due date, in the hope of avoiding induction.

Might have to try seducing hubby tonight.........hum should be interesting :o

Lis - at least bubs is engaged!!! That is a start - but very annoying that they can't see you for s&s until +5 days!!!

flygirla nd royaUK - it sounds so frustrating and exhausting to be having such constant contractions and being housebound like that...quick labour vibes to you!!!

ATM - Well - nothing!!! Had period pain yesterday and lots of BH's, pelvic pressure and felt spewy!! But no contractions! Today - all has been quiet 2! S&s on Monday and told induction date for next week.

Shell1 - they don't feel like period pains for me. It feels like something (baby's head!!) is pushing bang in between my legs and is trying to push out - painful.

But it's a wave like feeling so i can sense when it's just about happening and if i manage to stand up or rest over the edge of the bed and get my body in a better position i can cope. The feeling increases in intensity for 15 secs, reaches a peak then flows away again. So lasting under a min in total.

i have to focus on breathing in as whilst it's happening i'm groaning loudly and breathing out a lot and have to remember to take in oxygen for my body and the baby!

If it's whilst i'm lying down and don't get up out of bed in time then the contraction literally pins me down to the bed and i can't move until it's over and it feels 10 times more painful than if i stand and rock my hips. i have to bite my pillow and groan it out until it passes.

I've become best friends with my TENS machine - it's much harder without it.

Then when it's over, it's over. And as it has been happening for almost 5 days now, i'm almost resigned to this pattern! But some sleep would be very much appreciated - hope i have the energy for when labour ramps up.

Is this what others have been feeling?

RoyaUK - the wave sensation of building, peaking, then disappearing fits with me. I have a very low period pain stretching as well. I agree with the leaning forward thing. I find that is the easiest way to get through it. The contractions for me come after a couple of hours of achey period pain and back ache. It's like the warning sign. Saying that - not much has happened since.

Thank you for your good wishes. I went for my scan yesterday and all is well with baby, which is good to know. It is estimated at 8lb 10oz, so a little larger than I was hoping for!!! My date for induction still stands at 42w, next Friday, so the end is in sight. Seeing other mothers-to-be at the hospital with real concerns about the health of their babies gave me a bit of a wake-up call and made me realise that I should stop whingeing and learn to be patient.

Glad all is well with your big bubs flygirl!!! Not long to go now - I find having an end date (yours being Friday) so much easier to live with you....just lets you countdown. 2morrow I will find out my end date (Wednesday or Friday)...I have a feeling I will be induced again!!

Oh I hope not M2W I really hope you go just before.....the folklore story people love telling "oh she went just before she was due to be induced":rolleyes:

I am having a crappy day, managed to seduce hubby last night ;) but finding today is my worst feeling day, constant bh some painful, constant period pain, I have just had a major clear out (tmi) and I feel really spewy.........could it be....verdict doubtful:shakehead:..... unless that ole wives tale turns out to be true. Going to lie down and see what the day has instore.

Lis - Sorry to hear you are feeling shocking today! I have had the constant spewy, achey feeling now for a week! And I really feel like I have hit a wall energy wise now! I just can't be bothered and every little thing is a big effort...I was travelling so well!!! Then it just hit the last couple of days....guess it had to catch up with me sooner or later. Hope your rest has seen you feeling better!

But iv had so much pre labour ,period cramping that is only getting stronger, contractions that come to nothing, feeling sick out of it , the runs :redface:

there was another thread about using raspberry tea leaf mixed with dandelion tea to bring on labour? has anyone tried that?

I dont want to go over due ,was thinking about trying it ,considering all the pre labour iv been having ..

Hi Mum2willie - no end date for me, my OB wouldn't do anything until 42 weeks and is fine for me to go over 42 weeks if I want to. At present I'm still wanting to avoid induction. So! My 15 Feb 'summer' baby might come in autumn!

When was your due date? I see that you're hoping to be induced next week?

Shell I googled the dandelion tea and to be honest I couldn't find any references to it being used to induce other than the recent post you're referring to on BB. Also the RLT doesn't induce as such. So I'm not interested in that. Have a look at the 'naturally inducing labour' article on BB for lots of ideas. I'm limiting myself to acupuncture and accupressure, swimming and walking.

But Shell you shouldn't consider yourself 'overdue' once you get to D-Day! (ie EDD!) I do hope you go ASAP as I know how uncomfortable and anxious and excited you've been... but I think that too much emphasis is placed on THE DATE. I've read that a large study indicated that first time babies in healthy mums allowed to go to full term and commence labour naturally come at average 41+1. That's the average! So even after 41+1 you're merely a bit longer than average. Hearing stats like that makes me angry that some OBs insist on an induction at 41 weeks. :angry:

Yeah no i couldnt find anything on the tea either- and with the RTL iv been taking it but not for the inducing ,as i believe thats not what its for .

I'm def not going by my due date as i believe it the weeks after , and i want my bub to come when she is ready and i dont think i will want to be induced if its juts a few days etc or a week for example after my due date, not sure how the hossy im going to are about that so i will have to check on that.

I know i know hehe iv been a bit anxious and excited about it all, its the whole waiting and not knowing when :) .. i feel it will be any day now but to be honest i have been feeling that way for weeks now lol lol

I think also the reason i dont want to go over, is that i dont want to feel forced into inductions like i believe a lot of woman do feel that way-

I hear you Shell - once they're fully cooked it would be nice to not have to be on the clock for an induction.

I am starting to wonder, though, why the induction pressure is introduced at all. Babies don't stay in there forever.

As someone who had 6 weeks of BH every night till I was 42 weeks and then 36hrs of labour which was exhausting and ended in a c/s I would advise you to not worry to much about putting your energy into second guessing when they will come or wont. My advice is to put ALL of your energy into resting resting resting!! When you have rested enough rest some more and gather your strength. It sounds like you are nearly there, so just REST (there I said it again) and enjoy the last days. you don't need to know when it will happen you just need to care for yourself and your family.

Good luck I am jealous I would love to be doing it all again but I would not worrry next time like i did last time about when and just focus on keeping my strength and staying calm and rested

Yes I agree with Bella29 its feet up and resting time:dance: I am still working this week but then thats it, I realsie this may have been a mistake but the thought of 3 weeks twiddling my thumbs was unbearable last time and I didnt want it this time.:shakehead:

But I too have now hit the wall and could sleep pretty much all the time now, luckily my gorgeous girl appears to be having a growth spurt and is sleeping in in the mornings :lol: she must know what mummy needs.

AliB - maybe give the dtd a go....its not pretty but it got something moving with me (though now its died the death) but others swear by it. The hospital here wont let us go beyond 40+11which I guess is a abit early but then again by that stage i'd be pulling it out myself if I could :lol:

Shell1 - I had a little energy surge this morning and got some dusting done! But now over it! Gets so hot to be bothered to do anything!

Alib - My due date is Wednesday. With my first, I was induced at ten days over! There was no sign of my cervix dilating and not a single niggle!!! This time, however, I have gestational diabetes and usually the goal is to get to 39 weeks. I am proud that I have made it to due date or a couple of days over before being induced, as the average is 38 weeks. So I am very happy to have made it this far!

Bella - I agree with the rest!!! Little will be around the corner.

Lis - I had contractions that woke in me in the night and some this morning until around 8am...but they were very irregular. Got lots of period pain this morning too! It will be interesting to see if my cervix has dilated at all at my appt today (after all these weeks of prelabour!).

I was under the impression that with Gestational Diabetes they would induce you before your due date? or is this only if there are problems as well?

Talking about period pain mine just keeps getting stronger all the time, its bad atm, i feel like i should be getting some period pain tablets lol then i rememeber :)

I had a S&S this morning and am pleased to say things are moving. I am 1cm very very soft but still with a bit of length. I am pleased although I know I could go on like this for days and days yet. At least I know all the niggles I have been having are doing something.

I have been taking RLT tablets for about 2 weeks now not religiously but still they maybe doing something to help as for the dandelion tea, its Poos!!!:sick: It is revolting stuff and really tastes like dirt then repeats on you for hours. So dont recommend this especially as there is nothing to suggest its labour inducing powers.

I have another appt next monday with the midwife for another stir up and if nothing has happened by thursday next week(I will be one week over) I will be given an induction date.
My last two boys were scared out by an induction date of their own accord so fingers crossed it is the case this time too . I really dont want to be induced.

Well had OB appt and I am not dialated at all!!! He said the cervix is soft but still closed! So he has booked me in for an induction next week on Monday - that will make me 40+5days.

Shell1 - Yes usually they do not let you go over with gestational diabetes. When first diagnosed they said me best case scenario was 39 weeks. But my sugar is under control via diet (not insulin) and bubs is only small so not all plumped up by sugar because I have been able to keep it all under control. But that is why OB was going to induce me at my due date.

But after he saw me today - he said he would rather leave me til next week. So on Sunday arvo at 5pm I am going in to get gel on my cervix, stay in hospital overnight and DR induce first thing on Monday morning.

I am happy with bubs cooking longer if she wants to!

I was indcued with first bubs at 41.5weeks (not GD) but didn't have the gel coz cervix was dialated. Anyone had the gel before and can tell me about it???

Well this has turned into a sort of a quasi belly buddies group! Which is hard work for me as I'm already in two of them!!! LOL... I am the last to pop in the 1-15 Feb group so a week or so ago was warmly welcomed into the 16-28 Feb group LOL.

Mum2Willie - well done with your extended baking time, sounds like you did a great job with keeping your GD under control.

lismith25 - I worked until late too - in the office until nearly 39 weeks, then from home until 40 weeks. It really helped keep my mind off the due date!!

AFM a very sad and sookie day today, feeling sorry for myself. My new 'interim' avatar helped pick me right up! As did getting out of the house for a couple of hours despite the heat. Wed is OB appt 41+2, I had been uncertain about the idea of an S&S a few days ago but now I feel that if the cervix is at all favourable for it I will be saying YES PLEASE!!!

MTW thats what I had...I had the proglastin gel stuff, it gets inserted on a type of tampon, mine slipped out and had to be replaced at some point :o but that started at about 3pm the day before. The mw then gave me a sleeping tablet, hubby went home and then when she came to do an internal and my waters broke as I got out of bed.....contraction started afterwards I cant remember exactly when but were bad enough to want hubby back at 3am....DD was born 5.30pm that avo......long time but I was high on pethedine for most of it :thumbsup: and its a route I intend to go again....it didnt really help the contractions but it made me calm in between.

Wow that was a ramble....anyway yes I had the gel and it did work....its not comfortable but hey after an internal and what is to come.....it wont even register:D Hey you'll have your bub on my due date:clap:

I managed to get my appointment changed for 40+1 so week on tues, i will be begging for a s+s and an induction date just in case:pray:....I got bumped twice last time because of natural births...some people are so inconsiderate;)

Lis - Thanks for information re the gel! So you didn't need anything else to get your contractions going??? That could be good...I was wondering with hubby should stay with me that night or not...as I have toddler at home. The in laws will stay over but Daddy will calm him when (and he does 50% of the time) wake at night. What do you think??? Did they recommend your hubby to go home?? I am going to a private hossy and they have a double bed, so DH can stay! But, then again, home and hospital are 10-15mins apart. So he is not far away if I want him.

I think its up to you if you want him to stay.....I go to a small country practice style hospital and visitors are out be 9 unless its all happening. I was a bit nervous about dh leaving but in hindsight it was a full on day and he had a good 5 hours sleep in his own bed, so he was a little more relaxed than I was.

This time however Im not going in overnight, I was bumped that day as well went in at 8 for an internal got monitored and then someone came in to do it naturally:wall: so I got pushed to 3pm........this time if it happens dd will be taken care of and I will be there at 7 or 8 ready to go......yeah right :D

I dont know if this is relevant but I forget to put it in the earlier post, but I ended up on the Syntocin!!!! drip as well for the last couple of hours as my contractions hadnt progressed then it was all systems go.....I dont know the rules of induction but you may still need that (and as I recall that was the "if I talk about more children slap me poleease"pain):o
