I'm just curious, because we haven't washed DS's hair in a long, long time - and it still doesn't look like it needs it at all.
I don't know if we should just wash it anyway, or leave it!

I wash Bella's about once a week in winter and about every second or third day in summer cause she gets stinky and sweaty...
Probably twice a week, but I have a grubby little monkey :)
I wash my kids' hair every 2 to 3 days but DD1 and DS were both born with long thick black hair which has only got thicker and longer (though we have cut DS's short). They get lots of food and anything else they are doing in their hair so we wash it because we can't brush it otherwise. I don't really know how often you are meant to wash baby and toddler hair though ...

Well as you already know - Sunday night is hair washing night in this house.
DS2 washes his own hair now (he will be 4 in Feb) and I wash DD2's hair as often as needed but usually 2-3 times a week.
DS2 hates it, and screams so usually like once a fortnight generally, as well as any other time if he gets food or other stuff in it. When it's short, like now, it might be even longer between washes. It all depends really. I really dread washing his curly locks though.
Usually friday & wednesday...darn! thats tonight!

Couple of times a week, depending on sweat, dirt & food. I always wash their hair on Saturday after swimming lessons 'caus I'd hate for their blonde locks to go green!
Every day! DS rubs food in hair at nearly every meal so I have to. But I rarely use shampoo (I've used it twice since he was born). I just use water & a cloth. Now he's starting to push me away and say "owww" when I try though. Time for a haircut, I think :)
DD's hair gets wet and somewhat washed just by her having a bath every day, but she does that herself. I wash her hair after her swimming lesson, which is on a Saturday, and if we go swimming in the pool (which hasn't been happening much with this cold, wet weather!).

DS only sometimes gets food in his hair, and if he gets it wet it comes out without any trouble anyway. Maybe he's just not a very grubby kid (yet!) I really couldn't tell you how long it's been since DS has had his hair washes, cause DH is the one who was giving him baths. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been a month though :redface:. Mmm, maybe I should wash his hair tonight :think:.
Actually, now DS's head is shaved, I don't bother. My girls go to school & have long hair. DD2 is bad for food in her hair!
The last time I washed DS's it was long & it was only cond for the knots...
with just water every bath/shower with shampoo once a week for DD1 every 2 weeks DD2 but she has no hair to speak of and it dosnt get dirty
I'd be lucky to wash their hair twice a week. Most of the time it's just once a week - on a Sunday LOL. I used to wash it every second night but once DS started school and started bringing nits home with him, I decided to only wash 1 maybe 2 times a week and they have not had nits since.
DS (8) washes his hair everyday, DD (4) probably every second day as she has REALLLLLLLLY long thick hair and it ends up in a mess if I don't.
DS has his hair wet every night in his bath or shower and washed with shampoo once or twice a week depending on what he's been doing ie in the sandpit or swimming or just plain hot and sweaty.
jack gets his done every night with his shower luek probably every 2nd night unless he got heaps of food in it then I wash that night

I don't!! I make my husband do it!! DD squeals and carries on if I try it but apparently it isn't an issue when Daddy does it....so he does it about once a week.
Every second day here, my kids have fine hair like me and it gets greasy quickly if it isn't washed often!
Sorry to sound ignorant LOL, but how does this keep nits away Trillian? I'll have to keep that in mind if the kids get nits!:
Nits do not like clean hair. I think they can't get hold of the hair if it's a bit greasy?:
I wash my boys once a week and DD when I remember. She can go a good couple of weeks without me washing it. I wet it most nights in the bath. I washed DD's for the first time last night since?????
When I was growing up it was every Sunday night!
My 3 little kids shower instead of bath, so its wet-washed every night. I hate using chemicals so thats fine with me. I rarely pull out the shampoo and cond for them. Only when I have to!
The 3 big kids shower each night, and wash hair every second night. The boys have short hair, and the tween has past the shoulder hair, but they all have thick hair.
Does anyone know a good alternitive to sham and cond????
don't worry Sterla....I have no idea how often it gets washed either. When it looks like it needs it.
We wash the kids hair most nights. I have never even thought not to wash it, I just do it because they're in the bath or shower and that's what you do :lol:
Mind you I wash my hair every 3rd day.

once a week with shampoo unless its needed more but normally its just a wet wash (no shampoo or conditioner) every night as she rolls around in the water and I tip the water over her head.
Errmm... once a month, maybe? When it gets kind of stinky? Lol, DD2 hates having her hair washed so I generally don't bother unless it's getting really foul - her hair is super-thick and curly and actually looks best with a bit of natural oil to keep the curls in nice little ringlets, so I try to avoid causing her the stress of getting shampoo in her eyes! DD1 likes having her hair washed but isn't keen on sitting still while I brush it so I tend to just wet their hair and let it do its own thing :)
I can't remember ever using shampoo on DD. She gets her hair wet in the bath but I've never made a concious attempt to wash her hair, she is pretty bald though!
Every Saturday after swimming and any time there is food in Elijah's hair... he also gets his washed probably 1 or 2 times more during the week as he's a real sweaty bubba and gets a stinky head lol.... so not a nice baby smell to him anymore!!!
Trillian, they say that nits are a sign of nice clean hair, so makes sense ;)
Also re: washing hair... the more you do it the worse it can actually be for your hair... it's actually really good to not wash your hair too often... and before you say oh but I have oily hair... that quite often can be because you are washing it with shampoo and stripping the oils so your hair goes into overdrive and creates more and more oil to try to fix it. If you leave it and go through that oily stage it should start to balance itself back out again and you won't have to wash it all the time because it won't get oily!
Every 2nd night.. DD1 has long curly hair for her age and it gets knotted on itself, i also use a tea tree spray on it every day when i brush it.
I thought you washed their hair at every bath time... :dunno:
DD doesnt have very much hair at the moment but i always shampoo it every bath time which is generally every second day. But when shes up and about the will change to every night as part of our night routine.
Are we not supposed to wash their hair every bath time or is that because they grow to not like it??
Mum washed our hair every week. I intend to wash bubs hair with just water when they're a small bub...maybe when they get to the stage of being up and about, mushing food through it etc I'll do it once a week with a non chemical, natural shampoo.
KM, I think it's just cos bubs hair is so healthy on it's own :dunno: Be careful with shampooing every night (especially if it's not a non-chemical natural shampoo) as it might end up irritating Miss K's scalp, especially as she has little hair lol.
She's been fine so far with it. And she has dry skin so i use a moisterising bath wash. These are the things nobody told me about! :lol:
We used to wash DS's hair every day or second day when he was a little bub, then somewhere along the way it became less frequent... and now we're at the point where we can't remember when we last did it! The thing is, his hair doesn't look oily or dirty at all, and it doesn't smell bad. I guess cause I'm in Tassie and we haven't hit full summer yet it's not hot enough for him to be sweating too much yet either.
Ozzie: I've heard that about washing your hair less often - I wash mine every day, though I'd love to break that habit and do it much less often... but having to get through the oily hair phase certainly doesn't appeal! :lol:
I havent washed DDs hair...ever...never used shampoo on her hair. She has fine blonde VERY curly hair. She showers with me most mornings and baths every night, i rinse her hair really well and then put some spray conditioner in and brush it when we get out otherwise it forms into one big dred lock!! I guess as she gets older it might need a shampoo but at the moment it never looks oily.
