Yep... Tallon starts next year. We had our last day of preschool on Tuesday cos we're away next week. Tallon was heaps excited and apparently was proudly telling his friends that as of the next day he would be a big school boy and all the other kids were in awe of him LOL. So while they've all turned 5 before him.. he beat them at finishing preschool LOL.
I'm not terribly nervous... he's done really really well at the orientation days, and he is just BUSTING to go to school. I'll be a little sad that he'll be gone 5 days a week tho :( Kayla starts 2 days of preschool next year too... I won't know myself for 2 days a week!!
What day is he starting? We have the best start thing on Tuesday 1st Feb for half an hour, then he starts properly on the Thursday.
We have Best Start on the Monday morning for half an hour then Thursday the 3rd is the big day. I'm actually a bit nervous about best start, he can do so many things but gets nervous & embarrassed when he has to "perform" in front of a stranger (or even in front of anyone really). Hopefully he gets the teacher he had at orientation cos he loved her & that might help him be more comfortable.
Preschool finishes today & we have the concert next week so it's not quite the end yet LOL
Yeah.. I would think they'd take nervousness/shyness into account somewhat. I think they're only doing 1/2 of the best start thing on Tuesday, and then a few weeks in once they're settled, they'll do the 2nd half.
They did a special rehearsal of the little concert so I could go and watch it.. since we're missing it next week. It was so cute. hehe.
Transition in Vic goes for a long time. They do half days till 12 for the first two days and then 1 the following week, then the week after they go till normal time but throughout all this time they have wed off... and don't start a full week till early march!
So I'm not tooooo panicked yet. Not sure who the transition is for... us or them...
I will Sarah, but not till Term 4 next year LOL. Big hugs, it is so nerve wrecking when it your first off to school.
Rouge ours is full on right from the start. They're doing this best start assessment thingo a few days before to determine where all the kids are at (30 mins with a teacher & each child individually) then it's full days from there on. He starts on the Thursday so at least it's only two days the first week.

YES!!! my eldest "baby" starts primary next year!! i just finnished his enrollment forms and got his uniform list and all that this week! we moved in just after they had ther orientation, and his old kinder was doing it when we moved so we missed that, bummer!!
but yes, i am (not so) secretly scared! my biggest issue is he has the attitude of his 15yo unkle, so has a tendancey to crack the poos and wander off, bit worried considering primary isnt as secure and locked up as 4yo kinder is.
i just keep reminding myself, that bub no 3 will be here early next year, so the break from him and his brother fighting, and only having 3 at home most of the day 5 days a week, will be a NICE break!! (with a big emphasis on nice!!)

Im glad it's straight into full school days here. He is used to 9-3 from preschool. 1/2 days would be frustrating for both him and me I think! I do like the idea of days off tho. The tiredness is what's going to be hard. We still have catchup day sleeps here. I need to pull my finger out and get a better after school/dinner routine going too. I've gotten away with it only being 2 days a week. Bed times can be a bit hit & miss. So will have to organise myself a bit more for next year.
I guess the reason is we don't do full days of Kinder here either.
They also monitor for runners etc too as well as other things that might not have been picked up by Kinder or during the transitional assessment. Preps are separated for the first half of the term here so they don't get lost in the school, they have designated play areas, lunch areas and toilets that they are only permitted to go to.
Yeah it's a PITB. But they've found it actually helps children to settle easier and remain focused whilst enjoying school without hating it straight away because it's too much for them to cope with.
Yes me too!! My DD1 starts school next year. Ours is a bit different to yours Rouge, we do 9-3.30 every day except Wednesday which is a day off for the first 4 weeks. Week 5 they are into it full time. We have had 3 orientation mornings and DD1 is sooooo excited. She finishes Kinder next Wednesday and I think she thinks she is starting school straight after that - she will be so disappointed when she realises it is almost 2 months away.

He is begging me to go to scholl now! I can't wait to see him in his uniform next week when we go for our fitting!
We picked up the tshirt, hat and bag when we did orientation. It's so adorable and he loves putting it on to show ppl hehe. Now I just need to hit big w for cheaper plain yellow tshirts and grey shorts.
for the first 4 weeks the preps at our school do 4 full days and have wednesday off and on the 5th week it is full on from then!
I'm soooo looking forward to having 2 days where it is just Master L and I!
We had uniform day today at Kinder, and he's now still refusing to take it off!
We have the same thing & they will also get a "buddy" from an older grade to help out with ?? things (not sure what LOL):
My baby starts next year. He's so looking forward to it.
He's at the pre-school attached to the school so he's already met his year 5 buddy and gone to the canteen and library and had some classroom visits. His big brother is in kindy at the moment so he already knows his teachers because he's met them at pick-up.
I haven't bought any uniform because he's prone to growth spurts and also because he'll be using his brother's hand-me-downs.
The first day is a half-day an dthen it's full days but we're encouraged to et them have a day or half-day off it they're too tired or stressed in the first term.
We're thinking of taking a 3 week holiday about 3 weeks after he starts. I hope it doesn't interfer too much with settling in.
His brother is really excited about him starting too - they're really looking forward to being able to play together lol.

My only worry is he is quite shy and isn't 5 until next April so will probably be one of the youngest in his class.
Ive got all the uniforms but still have to get school bag, lunch box etc. He is quite excited to go but i have a feeling we will both be a bit teary that first day!
Little V starts next year too. They have every wednesday off for the first 6 weeks here. She can not wait! She would gone this year no worries if we had've let her! LOL

She has had induction and thankfully she is so confident she had no troubles settling in with the 20 boys and 4 girls in her class. We have the first week of 9- 1 and then Wed off for 7 weeks and then full time. Kinder finishes next Monday and that will be a little sad but her thirst of knowledge will finally be answered when she heads off to school.
Uniform is all done except the winter kilt no point taking up more room in summer. Just got to get to the shoe shop for school shoes ohh and runners for sport uniform..but will wait till we get the starting school cheque or what ever they send out in the new year. This is traumatic for me ..my baby ..is big enough to go to school and mumma aint coping.
Feb will be here before I know it..sheshhh then going to have to learn to pack a school lunch.

OH NO!! i hadnt thought of school lunch! he takes 2 sandwiches and 2 bits of fruit to kindy for "lunch" and thats only from 8:30 till 12!!
might have to check out some "healthy" snack options as top-ups i think!!
DS1 starts on 1st feb too.
His school goes straight in to full days, 8:45 til 3:05. He is also going to be catching the bus whic Im more nervous about than he is, even though its a school/private bus ots a bit daunting for me - he thinks its fabulous though!
A few of the other schools locally have the wednesday off for the first month thing also.
My baby starts prep next year too :( I think i am still in denial! they have a 9-1pm schedule for the first week then full time for the rest of the year! I am really anxious about the 5 day full time because he is not 5 until April but I hope he will settle in really well, as he has about 8 of his preschool friends in his class. He is asking to go to school but not quite sure he really knows what its all about! ohhh its going to be so sad for us mums!
*sniff sniff* I do.. and it is my 3rd baby starting and I am the one with the issues now :lol: Ds is starting to finally get excited about it.. Although he is quiet every now and then he makes a comment along the lines of.... when I go to school next year......

Arrrrgh! Things I need to do before school starts
- Get DD1's hair cut
- Do that pre-school medical checkup for her
- Dentist
- Organise her epi-pen and allergy kit
- Get her school bag
Now I'm starting to stress eeek!
My baby starts next year too. He's in a class which is half full of his kinder classmates, which is fabulous. He has the same teacher as DS1 and is in the same room, so it's hopefully going to be easier for him to settle in. He has some fairly significant emotional issues though, so I'm not working in February to make sure he settles in. This is on the advice of his kinder teacher and psychologist.
We do half day on 4 Feb, then full days but Wednesdays off until after the Labour Day weekend, so about 5-6 weeks of 4 days.
He's desperate to go, which I'm very grateful for. And I'm going to spend my spare time at the gym, getting fit. I'm not going to be the fat Mummy at school any more.
Beth is starting too. She will be 5 in March and is still pretty shy but I'm sure she will be fine. She has had 3 orientation days at school so she has met her buddy a few times and her teacher as well as hanging out in the classroom pasting her head off.
CAN'T believe how exxy the school dresses are $33! When DD1 was at primary school, they all had the generic blue/red/green and white check dresses and there were about $13. I have no idea why they switched to the ummmm? "designer" hahahaha uniforms. It's a public school...
Erica starts school this year as well. I can't believe she's grown up so fast! She is looking forward to it though so that's good.
Hey everyone... are we counting down yet? I for one am looking forward it to it... DS is sooooo bored at home now LOL. School is exactly what he needs at the moment!
Just wondering if anyone was given a list of stuff to buy for school (glue, pencils etc etc) cos we haven't. Yet I was talking to a friend from another local school, and she said her daughter had a big list of stuff to get for starting school in kindy last year. I've just rummaged through all our 'starting school' stuff, the folders we've been given, the school website and newsletters etc, and there's nothing there about what they need to bring. I can see it now.. we'll go to the best start thing on the tuesday and ask, and then it'll be a mad rush getting everything by the time he starts on the Thursday LOL. I don't know any parents at our school to ask either, all our friends go to different schools. argh.
I've still got to go and get DS's lunchbox and uniform. Hopefully Big W or somewhere has their stock already, might have a look some time this week.
I've got DD starting 2 days of preschool this year too.. so it's exciting times in our house. I'm so glad they're both busting to go.. we're all looking forward to it :)
Hi all, my Beth is starting this year too and I just can't get my head around it (and Jordy is going to miss her like a limb).
She will be fine, she knows a bunch of the bigger kids because her dad taught 3/4 there last year, so she's maybe over-confident.
When she met her buddy she got a little care package with a letter from her new friend, a drawing of them playing and a little present - cutest thing ever, I got all teary. I can't believe she's so big!
Liz, at our school you pay a lump sum for a box of stuff that is basically everything they will need. Maybe yours does that too?
I haven't even thought of uniforms yet, guess I had better.
Liz, we had a booklist to either buy or order through the school but it seems uncommon, mist of the other school you pay a fee and it covers everything
aaah.. ok... just re-read the note on fees. It talks about the voluntary contribution fee for each family, and then it says that "Text book and equipment fees are not voluntary and you will be requested to pay for these items. They are purchased on behalf of the students to retain uniformity of use." So I'm guessing we'll just be hit with a bill! LOL. Shame.. I love shopping for school stuff haha.:
DS will be starting school this year. At first at hie Headstart program last year he was so excited, but then he realised that none of his friends from LDC/preschool will be at his new school, so he's been a little upset about that. He does like the kids from his headstart program (even if I don't like all of them!:redface:)
The school gave us a little story book kind of thing about starting at the school, which I read with DS but I usually end up crying by the end of it, I'm such a sook haha!
In his bag of stuff he got from the school, they gave him a lunch box, library bag, pencil case with pencils etc.. But I haven't bought anything else apart from an exercise book. I can't find my list of stuff that the school gave me and now I'm freaking out. I had an appendectomy last week so haven't been feeling up to going out with him to get his uniform but hopefully I will be feeling well enough to take him out next week so we can get that sorted.

we picked up his back pack the other day bought a matching insulated lunch box and his kindy sheet set, he has to take a ream of paper, a box of tissues and cup ..so we just need ot buy the tissues and we are good to go...
he starts on the 24th so we have put the ole advent calender to good use and each morning he moves the marker he is so excited ... me well I was but now not so much :lol:
Rach - someone asked me the other night if I'll cry when he starts school. I was like... no?? We're both too excited about it I think! But then I thought it'll probably hit me the following monday when both are at school and I'm at home floating around by myself LOL. The first week is a bit messy with Kayla starting preschool on the Mon/Tues, but Tallon not starting full days til the Thursday.
We did our school shopping yesterday, got uniform and school shoes. He insisted on having proper school shoes.. with laces!! as much as I was pushing him to have black velcro runners LOL. He's been madly practicing his laces tho, so hopefully he'll almost have it by the time school starts! So we're pretty much set.
I didn't realise the states were so different with the terms. I think our term officially starts on 28th Jan which is a friday, but is usually a pupil-free day, so school starts the next monday. I think Canberra starts the week after that... and you guys up in Qld are starting the week before! Too confusing! LOL.
far as I know most schools here are starting the 24th I do think some have a pupil free day the first day and others may have 2 free
so strange
my son is starting feb 4th, the whole school is going back then. he will have each wensday off untill march they have called it "pupil free day for prep student evaluation" only the preps get that day off. just wish i could find the paper that has the date i need to pick up his book pack... i know its is the end of jan, but cant remember when exactly!
