DD brought her vaccination cards home from school today. I have to decide whether or not to allow her to have the cervical cancer one.
She's had all of her vaccinations since birth but this one worries me. I've heard so many bad reports on it.
What do i do?
i'm not a doctor... but i do work for one.
I asked our nurse (who is PRO vaccines!) to do some research before i had my injection.... she came back and told me some of the ingredients in the vaccine and said not in a million years would she put that in her body. And she actually had cervical cancer 12 years ago!
So, i didnt get it......
I dont want to say do or dont....just incase there's someone with a different opinion... i dont want to start a debate!
That's just my story of why i said no.
How old is she Tinks, 12/13? How would you feel about discussing it all with her, and letting her make the decision?
She's 12. She doesn't want any needles lol. I'm making her have the hep one though.
NO I don't want a debate! I just feel uneasy about this vaccine and wondered if anyone here could tell me about it, good or bad.
I looked at it when it came out, but it seemed too big a risk when it only potentially protects against one strain y'know?
This is probably the only one i am really wary about. I'm not sure if i want my DD to have it.
DH and I have discussed this one many times (with two girls ourselves) and our two have had all the vaccinations also.
I myself had abnormal cervix cells, so when this came out I thought wow that *could* be awesome....but now as time has progressed, and more information has come to light, we are not getting the girls done.
I would say google, but that in itself is quite scary, maybe discuss with GP?

I wouldn't do it. Making sure she is well educated about std's and safe sex when she becomes sexually active (which I know you will) seems like a smarter alternative to me.
i started to have it done, i had the first 2 shots, but didnt know i was utd with dd on the seccond dose, my doctor said she wouldnt have given it to me if we knew and that i couldnt have the third untill i found out if it was ok.
i hunted down the company who made it, and they said there is no studdies been done on its effects in pregnancey, so due to the "lack of knowledge" of its effects it was advised not to have the third dose untill a month after having bub. i never went back to have the third shot, as... well, if they dont have a great deal of research and knowledge on its effects in pregnancey, how can they have enough info to know it is safe for general use IYKWIM?
They don't, there are many findings that show it to have extremely adverse effects.:

Haven't over 10 young girls died from the vaccine?
And i think out of about 10 strains, it may protect against one.... no where near enough for us to take the risk.
I generally dont vac my kids at all, but I also consented to the Hep B in high school for them. That semed a small risk for a very important vaccine, to me anyway. With so much contact, esp with sports, its one I wanted done.
There are LOADS of threads in here about it, just run a search and you can read heaps without a debate :p
I would never put that stuff in my daughters body either with so little long term research and testing. It was rushed through way too fast. JMHO.
My DD had the vaccine.
I was 25 when I found out I had CIN3 and needed letz treatment to get rid of the cells before they turned to cancer.
I had been with the same man for 5 years had 3 babies, and had not been sexually promiscuous before that and if I did sleep with someone I always practiced safe sex.
The treatment I received on my cervix is the reason my babies have come earlier and earlier.
Safe sex and knowledge is not always enough...I consider if I can do something that may help her not go through what I did then I will do it.
She suffered no ill effects from the vaccine except a sore red lump at the site.
Almost everyone will have had HPV at some stage of their life but not all will turn to cancer.
Tink,s the fact is, this vaccination is NOT a vaccine for cervical cancer. It is a vaccine for the HPV Virus (warts) which has been found to increase the RISK of cervical cancer. This is what ****s me the most about this vaccination because it is being marketed as something that is isn't.

It's also the one vaccination where DH is 100% in aggreance with me that our girls wont be having it.
While cervical cancer is strongly related to the transmission of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) even the National Cancer Institute says that, "direct causation has not been demonstrated”. There are even FDA documents that support this and that the link with cervical cancer and HPV is limited to the fact that those who get the cancer are then more vulnerable to other pathogens. Therefore the cervical cancer vaccine is based purely on untested assumption of what might cause the cancer.
This vaccine also has not been evaluated for it's own carcinogenic (cancer causing) potential. Clinical trial results however a fairly scary. The US National Cancer Institute website states that no one who received all three vaccine shots developed a HPV-16 infection. However, “twenty-two women in that group did develop cervical abnormalities that can lead to cancer”. By the way, these trails are done on women who have never been previously exposed to HPV, so if they've got it it's a pretty good bet they got it from the vaccine itself. The vaccine has been proven to be completely useless to women who have already been exposed to HPV and there is also evidence that Gardasil may increase the risk of precancerous cervical lesions by an alarming 44.6% in some women.
I think most vaccines are dodgy but this one, rotavirus and the hep b ones are at the very top of my list. Actually, that's not true. They're all at the top of my list, but this one's flaws are far more obvious.

The Chicken Pox vaccine annoys me. It wasn't on the schedule when my 1st 2 were younger and by the time my 3rd was due for it she'd already had Chicken Pox (she had it at 4mths old) so none of them had to have it.
I've done some reading and have decided against it. If she decides to have it later on she can but for now I've signed the form with a big fat NO.
I mentioned this in another thread but they know something is wrong with it and its not working, they are thinking of introducing 1 or 2 more additional shots with the program :/ Great... that'll convince me!

Yes, there are 3 doses listed on the form I have. I thought they only had 2 last year :dunno::

Oh yeah and thats what I forgot to say too... they found HPV in very young children (who have not had sex of course) so there is no guarantee this is going to work anyways if you have it after.
Great, I got all 3 also. When it first came out and it was free my doctor drilled it into me. Most people will say well get a second opinion, but this doctor (so i thought) was awesome. He's written a whole bunch of medical journals and books, which he said was actually his job and being a GP was just a hobby. So when he was flogging this vaccine and pressuring me to get it (mind you no mention of the std/wart business) I thought well he's a smart man I should just take his medical advice and get it :doh:
I don't know if it still happens (probably does) but GPs/docs etc get bonuses for the vaccines being done in their centres... when there is a monetary incentive... well.
I must admit that this thread has opened my eyes a bit.
My DD had her vaccination back in 2007 when it first came out...it was spruiked as be a total prevention of cervical cancer.
If I had a the information I am reading now back then I would not have had it done :o

I just assumed that being in the risky age group for hep b through bloody sports, and hopefully not for a long time, sex, that it would be good?
My son got it last year, and my DD is due this year, through the school........

They had no prob at all with me denying all the others, they were great actually, so if the Hep B isnt a good idea, I'll have no worries saying no.
The biggest problem with vaccines is the shroud of censorship around them. We should have the right to make informed decisions about our and our children's health, but that requires ALL the information, and the ability to openly question and discuss. I don't care what decision someone makes for themselves or their children, but the secrecy that surrounds vaccination reactions and ineffectiveness makes my blood boil.
Hep B is made on mutated yeast. Yeast is quite a destructive little bacteria when not kept under control and this is relating purely to the gut. I have yet to find any research relating to the effects of yeast specifically when injected straight into the bloodstream, but I have found studies that show cerebral fluid from autistic kids is packed full of yeast that shouldn't be there. Of course there will be a difference between a child who hasn't developed their blood-brain barrier and a teenager. I also still trying to understand how making a vaccine on yeast will effect antibody production, as studies not relating to vaccines show that having a yeast imbalance stops the white T cells from enveloping other bacteria and virus', so what happens when those virus' and bacteria are made and bred in yeast??? So many things unknown and untested and likely not to be tested or known until manufacturers or scientists have no choice but to look.
Money too. All for profiteering rather than health care. And if people don't see it - or choose not to - then wow, the manufactureres have succeeded:
For those of you who had it done, don't worry about it now - if you didn't have problems with reactions or anything then you're fine. But it was probably a moot point to have it done if you weren't tested for the virus in the first place to see if you already had it or not. That's why I thought it was bull**** too because unless you were a virgin when you had the needles, then there was a chance that you had already come into contact with the virus, making the whole point of the vaccination, well, pointless.
Oh and pay attention to the media as well - for every 'negative' vaccination story shown on TV or in the papers, it is nearly always followed up by a separate 'positive story' - usually some tripe about how wonderful the vaccine is and how the Dr's have made a 'breakthrough' in the treatment/prevention of xyz disease. maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age LOL, but that can hardly be a coincidence.
I totally agree!! I also thought it was true that a mother can pass some strains on during child birth so you don't have to be a virgin at all. Also kinda makes mockery of vaccinating girls before they are sexually active.:
