New thread and hopefully another new homebirthed bubba here soon.
Your birth story was great, Bella.
We've chosen our DD2's middle name - Hannah Jane (from DP, whose middle name is John).
Saw my m/w today - only one more visit until we're done. :( I'm glad we'll catch up at our monthly HB get togethers or I'd be much sadder. Feels like a chapter is closing. I even got up the courage to ask about DTD today. everything is feeling pretty good, but I'm not that upset about missing my m/w that I want an excuse to have her back, so I told DP to get condoms last night!
Packed away the birth pool and put the dining room back in order too. *sigh* I'll have to watch the birth video to cheer myself up!
Oh bella I can't wait to read. But the length scares me off at the moment. I love to get a good cup of tea and no interruptions when I'm reading a good birth story. Teething Molly won't agree to this tonight. So rather than spoil it I'll read tomorrow. But thank you for sharing such a personal experience with us.
Thinking of you hoti
I am still here, been semi-reclusing, reflecting, energising.
My Mum took DD for a few hours today and i had a lovely rest chilling under the fan. DH and i picked her up and then got take away from our fav restaurant. DD had fallen asleep in the car so we parked next to a park and had a picnic dinner. DD then woke up and joined the picnic and then we played on the playground for almost an hour. It was lovely just to spend that time together.
Appt with our midwife tomorrow.
thank you for your lovely messages.

Sending beautiful birthing vibes... I'm so excited your HB is almost here :D
Hi HotI, I hope you are feeling good today. Sending love and light.
BTW, I had my second bub (1st HB) at 40+4.......
Hey hotI. Thinking of u love. Not long now. I hope u have a nice relaxing day hon
Sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday. Hope you are getting plenty of rest as your body gets ready!
Did anyone watch 'the doctors' tv show today? they had a segment on waterbirth- 'when water and babies don't mix'. AN ad came on for it just before my midwife appt, and we ended up watching it (midwife, student midwife, dh and i).
the dr lisa had a disgusting prop of a fishbowl with a doll lying under the surface of brown feral water.

Dr Lisa is a ****head. She's a true interentionalist and has always viewed birth as inherently risky.
Glad I missed it then. ;) Sounds like a complete load of sensationalist twaddle. I for one will be giving birth in water if I ever do it again!
Oooh, does that mean that you might be doing it again then Jen? ;)
hahah - yes I saw that too! She's an idiot - not only does she talk absolute rubbish but she can't have a conversation without yelling, interrupting and finger pointing. She also believes the 'cervical cancer vaccine' has 'eradicated cervical cancer' LOL!!!!
Only a few weeks ago she was talking about how important it is to clamp the umbilical cord immediately, despite the recent research findings endorsed by ACOG...and she had a segment on 'emergency childbirth' where she was telling fathers they need to pull on the baby's head as it's born :wall:
There's a clip on YouTube of a 'debate' she had with Ricki Lake about homebirth :eyeroll:
Hope you didn't take any of the negativity from the segment on board HotI...I bet your m/w was horrified...I remember whingeing to her about the same show at one of my visits :)
Nah, the 3 of us were saying how stupid she was. Thought the guest presented info much clearer, even when the dr was trying to yell her down. Pity the audience gave a cheer for the dr at the end.
We then watched a lovely 10 min waterbirth dvd that the midwife had with her. Very cute when the 2 big brothers jumped in the bath after bub was born to meet their sister.
My bub has stayed head down and moved into better position, needs to put bit more pressure on the cervix, so it might be a few days still but heart rate and everything else is fine.
That sounds really positive HotI. I'm glad bub is in a good position.
Jen, that is great :)
I'm cruising along. Bub is head down. I am feeling really introverted atm. A friend came over today but I was not looking forward to it. I have been avoiding people. I just want to stay at home and nest, which is difficult during school hols. I can't remember if I was like this during my other pregnancies. Was anyone else like this?
I wa really introverted during this pregnancy. I just needed to get the job done and not hype it up with ppl. I just really didn't want to discuss my pregnancy or birth with anyone really.
I figured I'd better jump in on this thread, or I'm going to miss the upcoming births. :)
Obviously whoever did that show on waterbirth has NEVER seen or had one! Every mother who's done one that I know of has loved it!
I just found my m/w on FB and discovered she knows a friend of mine who I've known since high school (who's also a m/w, but I forgot about that). I assume they must have worked together when my friend lived in Sydney. Still - small world!

Hot1 - how's the babymoon?
Wow! My highly mobile (unstable lie) baby boy knew the right position to be in when he made his way into the world. We only just made it into the pool before he arrived, and i was able to breathe him out with little injury. DH didn't even know we were close, and then i was bringing a baby up out of the water. He is a healthy little boy with everything in the right place. The placenta took a LONG time to come out (longer than the labour ), and i am so glad to have had the expertise of my midwife. He is a big boy, i think i am embarassed to say how big, but weight and head circumference are above 98th percentile. We weren't expecting him to be that big (another reason i am glad i was at home, and didn't have ultrasound towards the end) but he is quite in proportion so doesn't look huge to me. He is feeding well, after sleeping off the birth. DD is quite smitten, although sometimes she squeezes him cos she thinks its funny when he squirms. And she roars to wake him up.
* unstable lie is the medical way of describing when the baby has lots of room to move, and changes position often at the end of the pregnancy.
Oh HotI :loveshower:
sounds like it was just the it was meant to be! just so so lovely!
Yay Hot1!! You should be proud that you baked and birthed a big baby so well! You're a birthing goddess by the sound of it. If you feel like it, there's no need to be embarrassed in here!
Rest up, it sounds like you deserve it. And I hear you on the placenta, I pushed the baby out in the same time as it took to get the placenta out! Completely psychological in my case, I so didn't want to do anything more.
I'm so thrilled for you hoti! You created such an amazing birth environment and I'm just so glad you were able to have this empowered, respectful experience.
I think bigger babies are better! Why would you be embarrassed? Don't be! Just goes to show how perfectly baked he was and how wonderful it was you were able to just breath him out. I wanna know his size now
I hated birthing the placenta- I found the back pain "contractions" I got with that were worse than labour... I think it was mostly psychological though as Jennifer said as I couldn't be bothered with it- I had my baby now. Lucky for me it took much less than my hugely long 2nd stage though.
My m/w calls it the rude placenta. ;)
love it Jen!
hotI, sounds like you we're amazing! and I agree, don't be embarrassed by his size. it just proves that you can have a perfectly normal natural birth with a bigger baby, despite what many obs think.I get it though, although for the opposite reason, my babies are small and people always seem to have something to say about it. drives me nuts and has caused me so much anxiety in the past, but really, the only thing that is important is that you have a healthy baby.

yeah my placenta took a good 45 minutes to come out and it was really hard work! i was shocked! i had the injection first birth and didnt even notice it really coming out...but the second time i had to do a lot of hard work to bring it down...
My placenta took about 4 hours! It had come away but didn't want to come out, and then went into cervical shock. The placenta was quite large, but don't think that was why it didn't want to come. We stayed in the pool awhile, then tried on land.
Ok, highlight here if you want to know- my little boy was 4.96 kg (10lb 15oz). He is long and not really chubby, everything is in proportion. My DD was 3.7kg at birth, so not a heavyweight. It will be interesting to see how he grows from here on.
I have a mini vent that i just have to get out so i can let it go. I had couple people visit yesterday, for me i thought it was quite a privilege for them to come so soon. The visit was lovely, they bought lunch, played with DD and didn't overstay. But then one of them put photos up on FB with DS's name, when i hadn't announced his name yet (it took us a day to decide) or put any photos up. And they weren't even nice photos. I just don't know why people think that that is ok, i didn't know that i had to specify do not put photos on-line of my newborn son... ok, that feels better.
So our babies are either too big or too small! Lol I cook littlies too, Loulabelle - DD1 was 2.56kg (39 wks) and DD2 2.83kg (at three days past EDD). Neither had any issues due to size. Probably made the pg a bit more comfortable (I measured no more than 35 wks) but that's about it! We all know how many variables there are when it comes to birthing.
Hot1 - that's a fabulous size! I can't wait for the next time someone wants to tell how big babies can't possibly have natural births. ;) You're a champion!
