I have never eaten fish on Good Friday. I have no idea what I'm going to cook tonight yet.

Fish and chips!
We always have fish, so it's fish and chips tonight (we're not religious, it's just tradition)
Growing up it was cod. Tonight I can't be bothered so we'll probably have fish and chips which we normally order cod anyway ;)
Went for nile perch not to bad and crab nom nom nom
We're having garlic prawns, salmon patties and some oven baked fish.
Bit sad as DH didn't get out until late last night so it's just a box of frozen fish, not fresh but it'll be yum enough.
Oops! I'm not even religious, but I've always eaten fish on good Friday as a novelty (yeah, sorry :lol:)... I completely forgot about it today and I ate a burger before!
I'm thinking lemon and herb fillets for dinner to make up for it...
umm we go to the pub for the dinner before the auction then it'll be fish n chips there. if not the boys and DH will have fish chips (ala frozen ones) and i'll have a toasted penutbutter sanger n chips.
Fish here, like others has always been a tradition, grew up in a religious household and even though I'm more agnostic now I still like to follow it, and try to teach the kids the reason why,
But to answer your question we are having prawns and going to attempt to cook Barramundi Fillets on the Weber (may or maynot be successful)
Had fish and chips with prawn cutlets and scallops for lunch. Not sure what we're doing for dinner.
TBH I'm religious but nowhere in the Bible is it stated you need to eat seafood on the day Jesus died. So I consider it a church tradition, not a Christian one. ;) So we're flexible with it.

It is fish & chips for us.
My DH is Catholic and refuses to eat other meat on Good Friday.
I am not so strict (not religious at all) so the kids had a ham sandwich for lunch but the family meal will be fish out of deference to my DH's beliefs.
Growing up it was trout or salmon, but now I am the chef I don;t cook fish because bleurgh so we had homemade burgers on the BBQ, nom nom nom.

I couldn't eat meat on Good Friday either for both religious and traditional reason. My children will also be taught the reason behind no meat on Good Friday and will always have a fish based dinner on Good Friday.
Since I'm all by my lonesone tonight (a completley different woohoo!!!!) I am going to have Fish & Chips with McDonald coke and large chocolate sunday for dessert - spoiling myself just a little bit!!!

We're having salmon fillets with a pistachio crust - hopefully it's as good as it sounds!
Have always had fish on good friday.
For lunch I had Tuna on toast and soup at work and dinner I am cooking Barramundi and baked potatoes for us and Flathead tails for the kids.
Home crumbed basa (the budget was a little tight), oven baked, with hassleback potatoes, corn on the cob, and a couple of other veges.
Just realized I didn't mention what we are having...
DP is making chilli and garlic prawns with bok choy and either rice or noodles.
Out of habit we eat steamed smoked cod with onions, mashed potato, cauli/broccoli cheese and carrots.
I look forward to this every year, I love it! :)
Since i was born we have never eaten meat on good friday, mum would get us fish and chips or we went to our grandparents and had flat head.
Ever since ive been with DP he doesn't do it but i still refuse. I dont even think about it.
Not sure whats on tonights menu... the only fish i have is fish fingers so may cook some up for myself and DD (and little man :p)
Today at lunchtime we went to a family friends house and we all bring a plate/dish of fish or seafood. We had heaps to choose from such as a lovely Thai prawn & crab meat salad, tuna bake, cod & pasta bake, seafood salad etc.... We just kicked back and talked, laughed and ate of course! lol For tonight we are having more fish. Both DH & I don't eat meat on Good Friday & will continue to do so and explain to our children why we don't. Whilst we aren't practising we do have a strong belief of not eating meat on Good Friday

Can someone explain to me why you don't eat meat but we eat fish on Good Friday in a way I can explain to my children? I have never eaten meat, always fish on good Friday but no one explained to me why we don't.:
We're having Baked Fish with Mushrooms, Tomato, & Cream with Angel Hair Pasta. Noms.
Yowie, the distinction is made along cold/warm blooded animals. (warm blooded "meat" was more rare and treasured, fish etc was considered affordable and readily available, so giving up fish would have had no meaning...... this is what I was taught anyway..... someone correct me if i'm wrong)
The no meat on friday was established as a penance for the death of jesus..... our tiny bit of suffering to acknowledge his etc.
Being that its meant to be a penance we really dont see it as such, its more just tradition now.... we have massive seafood platters of prawns, calimari, moreton bay bug, baby octopus and fish all home made..... its actually a bit of a big celebration here, which is kind of nice, but definately not a sacrifice! :lol:
We not only could not eat meat on Good Friday, we had fast and abstinence which meant we'd eat fish and bread, and very plainly, and could only drink water. And fish almost every Friday.
So now I'm having spag bol on Good Friday.
We just had fillet of fish!!!

We had beautiful ocean perch for dinner. We always have fish on Easter Friday. But I was hungry at lunch time and told OH to get me a big mac. He diddn't click either, I only reaslised half way through my burger. I felt sooooooo quilty!
I can't stand any seafood and hate the smell of it cooking. So we had Hungry Jacks, cause Andrew forgot to take meat out of the freezer to defrost for tea. We do normally do chicken instead, but it was my son's birthday yesterday and he ordered Chicken for his birthday dinner.
We had calamari, prawns and oysters for lunch with chips. Well I had calamari and two prawns, just cuz.
Dinner was spaghetti marinara.
We do it for religious reasons... But interestingly, as someone pointed out, nowhere in the bible does it say you can't eat red meat on Good Friday. And apparently, the whole "fish on Good Friday" thing was actually started by Italian fish merchants who were struggling and wanted a way to break into the catholic market... So they made up this thing about the body of Christ. I'm pretty sure Catholics eat fish every Friday???
Anyway DH thinks its funny that I have this thing about fish on Good Friday when it was a commercially-driven tradition, much like Santa and Valentine's Day. But much like Santa and V Day, we still observe it :D
My fish was not at all nice. Contemplating a drive to the 24hr maccas for a fillet of fish. It would be a dramatic improvement on what I dooked! :(
I must be going straight to hell in a handbasket :D. I had bacon and ham and cold prawns LOL.
So, DP surprised me. The prawns were an entree. Main was salmon fillet poached in white wine, lemon and herbs, served with bernaise sauce (and salad).

i know for me, growing up we ate fish every Friday for the 40 days of Lent.
