On the announcement of Jessica Marias's new baby girl - how do we all feel about the name Scout.
I personally ADORE it for a girl. Will even run it by DP tonight for potential future use. Love it!!

Ummm. Not sure.
DD has Scout the Dog. lol
Love it for a little baby, and an adorable toddler. Pretty cool for a teen. As for a woman in her 30's, or a mum, or even a nana, I'd say no. I just couldn't imagine that name on a grown up, unless she grew up to be an actress or in a band.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! My DD would have been Scout except DH wasn't that keen, he chose the first name as he was really set on a name and he was really cute about having that name. Once we had DD the Midwife asked the name and I said to Dh that he could have the first name, she then asked what the middle name was and DH just looked at me, he knew straight away what it would be: Scout.
Scout was the little girl in the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, it is a black a white movie also. The little girl was such a cool little girl I loved it ever since, so 15 years later DD got it as a middle name.
Always loved it, as well as Jem and mostly to do with the beautiful story they both feature in.
Although I don't think I would use it as a first name but would totally use it as a nickname. I just have to come up with the first name that lends itself to Scout. I don't think I could go with Jean Louise.
Maaaaaybe for a boy. But not for a girl. I don't like it at all. Kind of like Guide... (you know, Boy Scouts & Girl Guides? haha)
Agree with Jackrose, it'd be a suitable nickname (people have the weirdest nicknames, lol).
Don't like it, sorry :(. Definitely reminds me of boy scouts.
Love it for either, but more so for a little girl. Xx

Not a fan for either a girl or a boy
Just out of interest for those that don't like it do dyou ever read or see the movie To Kill a Mocking bird?
Don't like it and no haven't read or seen to kill a mockingbird
don't like it for either, and yep had to read To Kill A Mockingbird for Year 11 English......
I always think of Jo Stanley from Fox FM in Melbourne when i hear it, as that's what she named her dog :o
I love Scout, it's not common, it's a beautiful name and I can imagine a beautiful natured little girl who grows up just as beautiful.
I have read To Kill a Mockingbird, one of my all time favourite books and movies :D
I know of another Scout who's a girl also - seems to suit her. I don't mind it, I wouldn't use it personally, but it's not one I'd dislike if I heard someone use it.
i absolutely love it. great for a girl's name.
To me it sounds like a dog's name..it could pass as a nickname, but I definitely wouldn't use it as a proper name.
I Love it. And love the book too. :heartbeat:
Not a fan, and definitely not for a girl.
Hate it - Sounds like an Aussie Bogan name.
I love it :)
It was on our list of boys names, but I like it for a girl too.

Agree, but by the time Scout grows up there will be many other unusual named 80yr olds!
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favourite books, and I love Scout and Jem (and Atticus) but the name Scout was forever ruined when Demi Moore used it :(
I loved the book. I loved the character. Hated the movie though but it didn't ruin the book for me. I even had Jeremy high on my boys name list. But definately couldn't name my child Scout. And I haven't a hope of convincing DH to choose a name that isn't in the top 100 from 1980 . I might have considered Jean but I don't love it enough to put it on my list.
nah not my cup of tea, sounds like a name I'd give a dog
The name didn't fly with DP!
BOO!
It seems too American for me :dunno: I don't like it, but for me it's more a boys name if anything.
I loved the book, but I wouldn't use it as a baby name for either gender. It's one of those names that because of it's semi celebrity status (Demi and Bruce have a Scout too) that it's become one of those names only a celeb can use and 'get away with' kwim?
However, I LOVED the second name Edie and would have used that myself if DH liked it, but it reminded him of his grandmothers name and she was an old *****.
ETA - and the thing I've noticed with these uneweusual names is that if their parents are celebs people are more accepting of the name because celebs do kooky shiit all the time, but if it's a regular person who doesn't have a 7 figure bank balance people are like 'WTF drugs were your parents on?'
:o My beautiful little man is anything but an Aussie Bogan!
Clearly I am EXTREMELY biased but I LOVE IT. Somewhat more "traditional" as a girls name but my Scout rocks his name :clap: and gets loads of positive comments about it.
I am a big fan of "To kill a Mockingbird" and Harper was also in the running before we found out Scout had a willy :)
Haha, I guess you are right! In 80 years time, there will be mum's on here saying "I suggested Scout but my DH said it was an old fashioned Grandpa name" like we do now with Margaret or Rodney.
In the newspaper yesterday, it said that Brett Kirk (footballer for the Swans(?), maybe ex footballer, no idea really) had a baby boy on Monday and named him Skout..
Feijoa Mum I don't think Amy_Jellybean was trying to insult you or your son, Aimz asked how we felt about the name and she clearly said her honest opinion. We don't all have to like everything and not join in a discussion in the fear that someone will be offended. We're all different and it makes the world interesting :)
Skout???! :o With a K?? Now, that's Aussie bogan ;)
I think Scout for a boy is a cool name but it doesn't seem like a girl's name to me. Like Jessica Simpson calling her daughter Maxwell. There are so many great girl's names already, leave the boys with something!
I think its Gorgeous. that was a big NO from DH
