Hi all
I had my blood test at 4.4 weeks and HCG level was 651. I was pregnant last year made it to twelve weeks before m/c but HCG level on same day was only 44. So it seems really high to me. We are doing IVF and had 2 blastocysts put in so there is a chance of twins. Has anyone had similar levels??? What were the results??? I still have two weeks til my first scan and am impatient. Thanks for your help.

Hi Meg
Can't help you with the twins part, but HCG levels have a huge range. For example, for a single baby:
Week 4- 5 to 426 (IU/L)
Week 5- 18 to 7340
Week 6- 1,080 to 56,500
Hope this helps!
Hello sorry for interupting, Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Deirdre. Hi I'm Deidree although no one calls me that, lol.
Nice to meet you and Welcome to BB
Dee
Hey Meg,
Congratulations! :happyforyou:
Do you know what caused your m/c? Perhaps your lower levels were caused by not all being too great even at that stage (i.e. if it was congenital problems)? Also though O happens at roughly the same time each cycle, implantation can vary so maybe this little blasty got dug in sooner and has had a few more days of doubling numbers than your angel did?
Or maybe it IS twins! Guess you'll find out in a few short weeks. Maybe you should schedule a dentist appointment for the same day - they always come very fast for dentist-fearing Bec :)
Bx
There's a very good chance with that level... Let us know in 2 weeks! :hug;
Thanks all for your responses. Docs could not pin point exact cause of last miscarriage though no abnormality found. Guess this time it is either one really healthy bub or maybe two, ill have to be patient. Thanks again will let you all know the outcome.
wow how exciting
I'm putting my money on two! Congratulations!
I agree Ellie! I think two- too Meg!!!!
Meg, firstly Congrats, secondly that number does look like a possible twin pg!
Im currently pg with twins and at 4 weeks my level was 183... but obviously was not able to have twin confirmed until u/s at 7 weeks.... and yup, there are two in there!
Good Luck!
Oh crikey,
I had my bloods done day before yest (approx 4 weeks) and they were 1106!!! Does that mean I'm having triplets??? AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
It went from 486 on the 18th to 1106 on the 20th...
I think it's a definate possibility given that you had two blasties transferred! But hcg levels are an indicator only - my level at 4 weeks was around 200 (so a bit higher than keen's actually) and there's definately only one in there!
A friend of mine conceived on clomid and her level at around 4 weeks was nearly 500 and this was also a singleton.
Just depends on the individual I guess, and levels double so quickly at this stage that if your dates were a bit out (although not in your case Meg being an ivf prg) your levels might seem higher?
I hope it is twins if that's what you're hoping for!! My best friend has two sets under 3 - YIKES!!
Hi Meg,
My hcg level at 4 weeks 4 days was 600 and there is only 1 bub there for me. I guess each one of us is different though. I guess you'll have to wait to have your scan to see how many you are growing. I hope the time goes fast for you. My dr agve me a hcg level chart thingy and now I can't find it grr. There is quite a big range though for each week from memory.
hey Meg
just wondering if you have gone for your scan yet?? i have been watching this post waiting to see if your having twins, cant wait to hear
take care
Hi
Yeah we had the scan and it was amazing!! one perfect little peanut, with a very strong heartbeat. We are so happy and relieved, the risk involved with twins were quite daunting. Doc says 95% Chance of healthy bub so it is full steam ahead with plenty of shopping to be done. Good luck to you all and thanks for your help with my query.
wow that is great news.
:happyforyou: Congratulations!
Great news Meg!
Wishing you a wonderful pregnancy filled with joy and giggles!
1208 in fact!!!! This seems ridiculously high to me. Last time I was 179 at this point..... I guess there is a chance I might have O'd earlier than usual....it does have me questioning both my O date/cycle length and the possibility of twins (my nana was a twin and 'apparently' in our families past they have come every second generation.....).
Did anyone have a number close to this anywhere near 4 weeks and only have one bub?
EDIT: Nov 2013 - to all my friends, please note this is an OLD post (read the date) about when preg with DD2. I'm not preg again!
How exciting Chody. I have no experience but just excited for you:)
I can't remember what my HCG levels were.. but maybe you're just further along than you thought? What did doc say?
ooh maybe twins!!! so exciting.
Just found this on wiki:
weeks since LMP mIU/mL
3 5 – 50
4 5 – 426
5 18 – 7,340
6 1,080 – 56,500
7 – 8 7,650 – 229,000
9 – 12 25,700 – 288,000
Looks like your levels are definitely high for 3w6d! Have they scheduled an early u/s or anything?
Well I have got the paperwork for an early ultrasound (I wanted it more so for peace of mind). I was going to book it for around 7 weeks to hopefully see a heartbeat. Now I want to go now to see what's in there/how far along I am!
How exciting!! You could well have a pair in there!
Mine was similar, and it was twins... Sadly, one of them only made it to about 8 weeks. If I were you I'd start getting my head around the possibility of multiples!
Thanks for the info everyone. Oh, and to answer the question - the doc didn't say anything - I just rang for the test results. I guess I'll find out for sure what's there in about 3 weeks..... Going for more bloods today.. Hopefully they're increasing nicely.
Myself and my girlfriend both have high HCG that early and both only had one bubba each. I was told to prepare myself that I may miscarrage or have an ectopic. Don't mean to scare you but that was what my OB told me. All was fine and now I have a gorgeous 5 yo DD.
Sorry cant really help - but I am carrying twins and my hcgwas 104 at about the same point as your at now. So it just goes to show - even with multiples hcg doesn't have to be under high.
Good luck either way and congratulations:)
Maybe triplets! To be honest there is only one other thing I could think of and I wouldn't want to scare you.
Best of luck
Xx
A couple of people have mentioned bad things now....is high HCG actually a bad thing? (and don't worry about scaring me, after a previous early miscarriage I've learnt to accept that pregnancy, especially early on, is not a guaranteed thing and I have no control over it.... The fact I have no symptoms is kinda worrying in itself...
I have heard of a few people to have rather high HCG levels and everything be okay. In fact, my sister did and she is currently 16+ weeks pregnant. Higher HCG levels can sometimes mean a molar pregnancy. Just go back to your GP if you're concerned though xx
From my iPhone.
I think there are 4 options: multiples, molar, further along than you thought or a normal singleton pregnancy outside the usual numbers.
Focus on the good, I'm thinking twins :)

As Lisa mentioned, very high Hcg may indicate molar pregnancy. I don't know a great deal about molar pregnancy can can't tell you any more than that.
Chody, I have held off saying this because I wasn't sure you would want to hear it.... But given your last post...high HCG can SOMETIMES mean down syndrome or another chromosomal issue.
The thing is though, none of us are doctors (I don't think!) and none of us have a window into your uterus. There are literally millions of people with high HCGs who go on to have perfectly healthy singletons, twins, triplets...and more! :o
There is no use worrying either way. Statistically speaking, chances are everything is absolutely perfect :)
I agree with the PPs. If you are worried, go to your OB and ask for some more tests.
Good luck x
hey hun
we've had really high HCG that early but that resulted in the boys! also one child with chromosomal issues in my family and had HCG well within the normal range. Im sure whatever it is, is a blessing xx
