12WBT February 2013
Who is with me?
Pre season starts on 14 January 2013, and that's perfect timing for me. I think the actual start date is early Feb.
My 12 months of hobbies will be complete, DS2 will be 10 months old, work will be getting into gear, and the Christmas and New Years festivities will be done and dusted.
DH is supportive, and deciding whether he's jumping on board or not.
Step 1 for me is to get to a certain number. I know some people go by clothes sizes or feelings of wellness or measurements etc - I understand that, but for me, my first goal is to get under s certain number.
Step 2 for me is to get back into my favourite suit, which made me look like it and a bit pre DS1.
Step 3 will depend on my energy levels and how I feel when I'm back in that suit. If I could do with losing some more weight, we'll do that. If I need to focus more on creating some good habits, or looking at other aspects of healthy eating and exercise, we will.
One *big* incentive is that I have a work trip to Hong Kong in late March / early April, and we always go to a particular suit maker when we're there, and if I've lost enough to warrant it, I can get some new suits and a formal dress made up nice and spanky new when I'm there.
I don't have any "in between" suits and shirts, because I was wearing maternity stuff and was just mixing and matching jackets with dresses and dress pants and maternity tops. Some nice ones would be good, because it will take a little while to get back down to my pre-children fabulousness. So that's a bit incentive for me to get right into it and lose the weight quickly and safely from the start.
Who else is doing it?

Hmmm... I've heard a lot about the 12wbt, but not the actual details. I do know of one person who achieved huge results on the program. Is it just another gimmick??
-
A good friend lost 16 or 17kg last round ... pretty good if you ask me!
Another friend (who didn't stick to is as much as she would have liked) still lost 8kg, so she's doing it again.
Will see for myself, I guess. :)
-
Is 12wbt more a weight loss program, or for fitness as well? I don't really have weight to lose, but could definitely do with some tone, and a whole lot of fitness. The program came up at home the other day, and I think the Man mentioned maybe he would be interested too. This came after the Boy sternly told him that they were going to start eating healthy. Not that I think we do too bad, but I think the food plan could bring us undone. We are a bit set in our ways, I guess the program has ways of combatting this?

Yes what exactly does it entail? I have a very restricted diet so I need to know if it's doable with that before I'm willing to fork out heaps of money.
-
All I know is you exercise 6 times a week, one of them has to be a really big work out and the eating is strict but doable. Not sure whether there's details on the website? The meals I've had with friends have been really good quality bread with lots of salad and a piece of fruit.
For me, the focus is more on encouragement and accountability, and getting more ideas for how to manage eating out and with kids.

12WBT is:
* A forum, with all the other members, and professional support
* A complete meal plan - including weekly SHOPPING LIST!! (Yes, love this! LOL) for each week, breakfast/lunch/dinner and allowance for snacks
* Access to recipe database - if you don't like Lunch on Tuesday, you can swap it out for another recipe that is similar in calorie content.
* Fitness regimen tailored to suit your fitness level and goals. You will train 6 days a week - you need to burn 500cal, 1000 on Saturdays, about an hour a day. There are programmes for gym, outdoor (oval/park/etc), home (videos etc). The programme covers beginner/inter/advanced levels plus the Lean and Strong which is muscle and toning based rather than weight loss. Your fitness level is determined and tracked by a fitness test at the beginning of the programme.
* Weekly live video chats with Michelle where you can ask her specific questions, etc.
The programme is not a gimmick. It is simple to follow because all the boring work is done for you, all you need do is shop, follow a recipe and train. It is basic, basic stuff - input=ouput stuff. The programme works if you do it and take it seriously. If you cheat, you cheat yourself, it won't work. There are no powers, shakes, soups or other VLCD crap. It is REAL food in appropriate portion sizes combined with regular and sufficient exercise and mindset support.
It works.
And it will teach you things like how to train, what is effective training and what isn't, what size portions you should be eating, how often you should be eating, fabulous recipes that taste amazing and the family will love.... (Penang Chicken and Buttermilk Pancakes OMG *drool*
It works out to $20 a week for the 12 weeks, $200 if you pay upfront in one hit.
I lost 15kg my first round and it was awesome. I will be doing Round 1 next year, another 15kg to go - JFDI! :)
-
You've almost convinced me LS! Going to Thailand in July and would like to lose 15kg or so, so i can trot about in a bikini!
-
Everything that Lime said. I did the program mid last year and lost 8kg and that wasn't even following it strictly. I loved her weekly messages and goal setting.
I'll do it next year in Feb with you. This will give me time to settle with school and an older baby.
Looking forward to it :-)
-
Thank you LimeSlice. Very interesting. We might do it.
Portion sizes.... hmm... yes, well.....
-
It is definitely a fitness and wellness program. I did the last program to train for a half marathon, which I successfully completed and lost 11 kg in the process!

I'm in Peanutter! I've been thinking about it for ages. Good timing for me too. Let's make 2013 a good one.

12WBT February 2013
I am in too. I actually sent the subscription through a couple of weeks ago
-
I sent mine through today :)
And I'm starting to exercise a little every day (shin splints! ouch!) and reduce portion sizes.
Next will be reducing processed stuff, richness, fats and processed sugars.
Looking forward to doing it together.
:happydance:

I should be in for round 2 next year!!!
Looking forward to getting back into it.
I lost 8 kg in 8 weeks on it this year but then fell pg. hoping to lose the baby weight in one round next year.
It's a great program but you have to commit and you get out of it what you put in.

12WBT February 2013
I'm a mayyyybe. Is there a cut off for registration? I'll be about 8 weeks PP which will work out well, but I'm a little wary of whether I'll actually manage following it, both the diet (with a toddler and a nb, don't know whether it will mean a separate meal, how expensive the food will be to what I normally buy etc) and the exercise, as I'm sooooooo unfit it hurts!
-
12WBT February 2013
I'm a maybe as well, will be 8-9 weeks post caesarean...
I really want to get a few dives in before it gets too cold here (Tassie, we dive in 16-17 degree water brrr!), so will need to work on strength before I can do that.
Thankfully my wetsuit still fits me!
-
I think you just have to sign up before the round starts, pumpkin :)
Sounds like we'll have a good group of BBers!!
-
Go for it girls. I signed up last year just before christmas (to start round 1 in Feb) and I lost about 8kg before the program following her books, then another 9 during the program. Have mostly kept it off this year. Signed up again for round 4 but haven't been so good this time around (because I haven't been following it) due to excuses. It is absolutely worth while though- if you follow it- you WILL lose weight and WILL tone up and look and feel awesome inside and out! I learned so so much on it. It isn't just nutrition and exercise, she teaches you so much about your own thought processes etc.
-
I am going to revisit the program now from the information I kept last time I did it. I really need to sit down and do the goal setting now as I keep 'failing' / falling off the wagon with my good intentions. I need to set out what I want to do and stick to it - this in turn will set me up for when I start in Feb.
-
I am thinking about doing it, not to lose weight but to get more fit and toned and to help with getting in the habit of making healthy choices. For those who have done it before, how time consuming is the menu? I have tried to follow meal plans from weigh it up dot com before, but found them soooo tedious and time consuming :/ And I'm worried about it bumping up my food budget, which is already too high and we've been working on bringing it down.
-
I did find it more expensive with food, but that is because I am so used to buying cheap easy crap! I was happy to pay a bit more to buy fresh healthy food, as I knew it was better for me and my boys. I found the recipes were SO simple. I am not a cook at all, and mostly I found them really easy and really tasty!
-
12WBT February 2013
Sounds great, but I'd honestly need to see the recipes before I committed :(
-
Menus are really simple. I didn't find it that much more expensive at all anyway, TBH. You aren't buying rubbish, and you are only eating what is on the plan and your snacks, so cheaper all round for our family. (It saved me about $100 a fortnight actually).

12WBT February 2013
Is it the type of food the kids would eat? I have an 18 month and 3 year old boy. We all eat the same meal now and I couldn't logistically cook 2 different meals.
-
Yep, most of it. It is easy enough to reheat them left overs of something they will eat or swap a piece of salmon for sausage. Both of mine loved the food.
-
-
I have a 4,6 and 8 year old and they all loved the meals.

12WBT February 2013
Yay PZ! I have too, and talked my sister in to it ;)
I have also committed to run the City to Surf with my brother in August, he has lost 33kg since march this year and I find him inspirational, he was 142kg! He has been overweight since he was a little boy, hopefully I can take a leaf out of his book :)

12WBT February 2013
I'm not sure what a realistic goal is? I've never exercised regularly before, and never with the intent of exercising or losing weight, it's only ever really been playing a little obligatory sport in school.
I'm a little over a week PP and weigh 77kg. I expect that to drop just a bit more in the next week. Is saying I'd like to lose 15-17kg too high an expectation. Ideally I'd like to weigh 55kg, but that's by the end of the year, so I dunno. I think 10kg this round, and anything else is a bonus.
I do also want to improve exercise habits so I can give my girls a good example, wear a bikini, and be able to run as a form of exercise, but honestly my first goal is just a number, the rest will follow.
-
Maybe goals then can be based on what you can do?
eg: I want to be able to do a Body Pump class (ie: doing all the lunges, crunches, etc) without vomiting blood and dying.
If running is something on your list, maybe aiming for being able to jogging for x minutes or x kms without walking?
Or is there a particular outfit you're looking forward to getting back into that you wore pre-DD1?
-
I have signed up and paid :)
-
12WBT February 2013
My goal is to fit comfortably into my wetsuit, without feeling claustrophobic because it is so tight! Then I can get a few dives in as a reward :D
-
12WBT February 2013
Yay PN? What are your goals for this round?
And yay Frog. I think some divers are an excellent reward! I've never dived, but I assume the fitter you are, the easier and longer you can dive?
I'm still losing weight from the birth here which is a nice surprise, as I'm now 75kg (2kg below my pre-DD2 weight). So yay for that. I've been drinking loads of water and walking almost every day (I'm trying to make sure it's a decent walk every day before the season starts, getting there) and I've easily halved my non-water intake, which was the goal this week.
-
12WBT February 2013
Nice work PZ, off to a flying start, should make it much easier once the challenge actually starts! Must be a good feeling to be below your pre preg weight already :) I'm almost there, I feel like my tummy is still swollen though, maybe because I had a c section? Is yours still loose IYKWIM? Mine feels flabby and soft still, like an empty sack?! Hard to describe, but I think it will still get smaller while it heals.
Being fitter is a big plus for diving, the gear is very heavy so it can be tiring to carry and gear up, and cardio fitness is important too, you really can't afford to get puffed out underwater, you use more air and it is quite dangerous to get overexerted! In Tassie we dive in thick wetsuits too, mine is 7mm, so you feel a bit like the Michelin man as it is, don't need extra weight making it more awkward!
Looks like we have a good little group happening here already, and still some time left before it all kicks off! I found a Facebook page of people in my area doing the challenge that all exercise together and chat, so I'm looking forward to getting out and about with them once it starts too!

12WBT February 2013
Don't worry about your bet, that jelly feeling is totally normal. It'll get better, still lots of time for your belly to heal. A compression top or tubigrip helps (that's what I'm wearing) and is good support wise for csections too. I have a load of stretched out skin hanging over my pants lol. Non stretchy skin plus two pregnancies in under two years took their toll. But we'll see how it goes over time.
I'm really excited and motivated. I'm glad other BB'ers are doing it too, because I'm going into it with 'friends' already itms?

Re: 12WBT February 2013
Well ive thought about it many times and never joined. And just this moment after reading this ive decided....the time is now :) im unhappy with my body im inbeyween sizes one is too baggy and the other is too tight for my liking think hooker like tight haha.
Yep 2013 is the year. So in the morning im going to sign up and pay it in one go. I will need some people to keep me on track tho
-
Im still umming and ahhing lol. DP has already agreed to half do it with me, he'll try the foods with me but wont do the exercise haha. He is a chef so is on his feet for 12-15 hours a day so I can kinda understand why he just wants to relax the little time he is home lol. Does anyone know though, if I fall pregnant while doing it, will I be able to switch over to the pregnancy one? That is kind of holding me back a little, we will be TTC as of tomorrow haha so if I fall preg quick I will need to switch over to the pregnancy one at some point when I cant do so much core exercises itms
